"Still blowing a gale again today,& rain on & off,but stayed of long enough for an excellent Xmas day lunch at the " Folly ""

i was walking daughters dogs at Stokes Bay approx 1400hrs yesterday and did wave but could not see the island just covered in mist and rain, promising to be better today enjoy.

Great day yesterday with family and friends but weather was aweful.

Boxing day tradition is to go and watch Gosport Borough play football, kick off 12:30 but i think i will let the youngsters do that, my knees are not able to stand for 2 hrs now, ok if walking but standing not good. We already have blue skies so I think i will be in charge of the dogs laughing

"In the bleak midwinter" just about summed up Christmas Day here in Perranporth - you'd have thought Ralph might have given us the chance of a lie in, but no such luck, so a cold, wet & windy walk up on the dunes to enjoy! surprised

But, in better news, Christmas Dinner was all sorted and timed to perfection, duck in port sauce (nice change) with all the trimmings (well, no stuffing) - think I might have to work on my presentation skills before trying for Masterchef though! laughing

And today was a much better day, went down to Perranporth beach after our walk to watch The annual Boxing Day "swim" - it was a very low tide so quite a few folk started from the rocks on the beach rather than the surf life saving clubhouse, which is cheating a bit really (says he  warmly wrapped up in 3 upper layers, thermal trousers and wellies!) laughing

    Happy Boxing Day, everyone!

Some brave souls there Moulesy brr.

Your xmas dinner looked good, we had turkey breast and roasted veg yesterday and today finished what was left of turkey and a salad plus a small Sainsbury's xmas pudding and ice cream.

Lovely day yesterday blue skies and nearly 12C and today started off ok with a sharp frost and blue skies then changed to thick fog for most of the day and very much cooler 4.2C brr.

Happy St.Stephens Day (or Boxing Day).

Had a quiet day yesterday but did manage a pleasant walk in the morning before the weather set in. Much better today with a bit of sun. Bit colder in the shade though.

Who got the unusual Christmas present then? Bet you can't beat ours. Beautifully wrapped pack of 6 Toilet Rolls!!🤣🤣. Brother in france gave us a few things to bring home in October and we were wondering what the gift wrapping contained. OH did mention whilst visiting that she liked them.😂 So we've thanked him, paraphrasing,  from "The heart of our Bottom"😂

Had a good long chat with our elderly neighbour who recently lost his wife. His family looked after him well. Tough time for those recently bereaved.

Hope nobody had a problem yesterday and all behaved themselves.

Very nice quiet day yesterday, dull wet and miserable but as we never left the house it didn't bother us.

Lunch was leg of lamb with roast potatoes, roasted butternut squash, roast parsnips and green veg. Usual prawn cocktail for starters and pudding was a ginger and orange steamed sponge with a gooey centre and fresh thick cream. No other food was required for the rest of the day.😊

We had  long chats with both our sons, one son not allowed in the kitchen, wife's domain. Other son and grandson cooked the whole dinner, so it was a later call from them. Both families enjoying the day and tomorrow youngest son and family going up to eldest son's house for the day with his family. They both now live in Yorkshire one north one south. First time they've lived anywhere near each other since they left home 25 years ago. So nice to see/hear them all getting on.

Today was totally different. The sun woke us up, very frosty but blue skies. After breakfast we decided to go out in the car for a drive and ended up at Dundee.

It was nice to get out in decent weather and have a good walk around.

Still contemplating on whether to use our free night voucher from the club, only have a few days left to book it but can't think of where to go at the time of year it needs to be used by 🤔

Hope you all had a good day yesterday and not too many thick heads today.

Weather wasn't too bad yesterday, and we had a few dry walks from the van. Christmas dinner was thick steaks, with roast potatoes and roasted veg, followed by a very tasty Xmas Cheesecake with Brandy sauce.

Today was cooler but sunnier, although not as bright as forecast. We drove round to Brereton Heath Country Park where we had a couple of walks, one around the heath and lake, before a picnic lunch, after which we walked over to St Oswalds Church, which unfortunately was closed. The country park was very busy with families and dogs!! Dinner this evening was Salmon, with new potatoes and a 6 veg stir fry followed by the other half of the Cheesecake!😁

Thought you might have had a dip this morning with the other enthusiasts, Moulesy.😃

Looks as if most, if not all, had the sort of day they wanted yesterday.

Sunny, with blue sky today in Glasgow too, though we did have a couple of short showers in the morning.

We had a relatively calm Christmas Day, went down to DD around 11 and were soon set to prepare the sprouts and broccoli, DD having already got the potatoes, carrots and parsnips, pigs in blankets etc prepared for roasting, the turkey breast in the oven, and the table all set, so she was very organised.

Son and family arrived at 1pm, meal was ready at 1.45.   Food was delicious, far too much, as usual, and we took a long break after the main course to open presents, then coffee and dessert later, and the  visitors departed at 6pm to visit a relative in hospital.

Callum and Nathan eventually went to  bed around  8pm, they must have been exhausted, certainly the rest of us were!!    Watched a bit of television, couple of films, then rolled out our sleeping bags on the sofas.

Late breakfast today, and some leftovers for a late lunch.   Callum informed us that as it was Boxing Day, everyone should stay home and just wear pyjamas........not sure where he got that from!    Some of SIL's aunts and uncles came round with even more presents for the boys, 2 of them have no children or grandchildren themselves, so the boys get really spoiled  by them.

We came home around 5pm, with enough left overs for another meal, and even some for tomorrow, so there was definitely over-catering.

😂 love the pigs in blankets David, they are very cute.  Nice quiet Christmas here.  Spoke to son in Macau, and later in the day we had a homemade quiz with other son and family in Hertfordshire. OH wasn’t feeling too well last Thursday/Friday couldn’t put a finger on what (no symptoms to speak of) but seemed ok over the weekend and Christmas Day, roast lamb for us too.  Decided to go out yesterday as it was a beautiful day,  so we had a trip to Hornsea, we arrived, parked - luckily as it was very busy, got out of car OH then started feeling ill again so we had a short walk hoping some air would help but it didn’t so came back home, he spent the whole late afternoon and evening mostly asleep in bed with nothing but water!  No idea what this bug is but hope it’s gone now.  Don’t you just love a Christmas virus!!   Great to hear everyone had a good time.  A few days of nothingness now, it’s called ‘Twixmas’ (apparently) until after next Monday.

Good to read others Christmases went well.

Our Christmas Day went incredibly well, my hosting nerves proved unfounded, thankfully 😃. Just hope I haven't overplayed it......

Similar to heddlo in that OH  not so good Boxing Day but we did manage a visit to fantastic  Coffee Ark in the next village, complete with reindeer, but he opted out of the rest of the day.

Very wet, started overnight, and windy day here, managed a dry-ish walk with Dora between 9 and 10. Ditches full and fast. Lots of water right across the roads! But stuck to hard surfaces without traffic 😉.

So I put away all the Christmas cooking and dining stuff. Larger trays, posh plates collapsed the table etc. That all looks a bit bare now 😢. Plenty of food to create main meals and sandwich fillings 😋. Indulged in a good chill with a couple of early episodes of Vera, which we haven't ever watched ?? So have at least another 40 plus to enjoy. The perfect afternoon for indulgence without guilt!

Love the wherenexts best Christmas present. Very useful. And the pigs in blankets.

Hope those travelling, including DSB's daughter arrive safely without issue.

Edit the Coffe Ark fb page has great photos of the truly  fabulous turn out yesterday. The weather certainly helped.

Hope that the ferry is running, David, many have been cancelled today. The road over Drumochter is also impassable so they may have difficulty getting South even if they get to the mainland. Hope that they make it safely. Glad you had an enjoyable Christmas day. Love the "pigs in blanket"!!

Fingers crossed that your OH is feeling better now after his long sleep, heddlo. This is never the best time to catch a virus.

Millie, it sounds that you had a couple of lovely days over Christmas, at the Cathedral and with members of your family.

It has been a mixed day weather wise, but fortunately not had the very strong winds that other places have had. Although it has rained at times we have managed our walks, from the van, without getting wet.

Thanks Nellie... and others.  Ruth and Wayne''s ferry was delayed.... just had a message to say they've just got through Glasgow.  I think they'll get as far as Carlisle and then decide whether to pull over and sleep or whether to carry on.  They're in their camper van, so they have the option... at least it's all motorway from Glasgow onwards....  they're in constant touch via messenger...

Wow, didn't expect the ferries to be running David. Hope the English leg doesn't let them down.

Are you Shingles free Millie or just battling through? I know they can flare up. Take care and best wishes to OH for an improvement in his health.

Also thinking of Oneputt and his hospitalised brother.

Well, that was a lovely wake up call. Full wet weather gear and a dog to walk this morning. We're dog sitting for our neighbours as they have bagged 2 hospital appointments at different hospitals on the same day, one morning and one afternoon. One less thing for them to worry about. I'd forgotten how wonderful it is to walk into a 40 mph wind with horizontal rain.😱🤣 Still it did lessen off and we had dried by the time we had returned home.

Best wishes to anyone under the weather at the moment.

Sounds like most folks had a decent enough Christmas, which is good. I am back at Mum’s today after a very enjoyable couple of days off. We are still booking lots of one day breaks and activities, and the dreaded dentist check up😕

We have watched more TV this Christmas than usual, but it’s all been old stuff apart from Vera. Managed a few local walks as well, and a bit of gardening.

Quick catch up, sounds like everyone's had a good Christmas.

We spent the day at our eldest son's in MK, our little Grand-daughter keeping everyone entertained. Out of all the presents she received it was the bag of chocolate coins which she seemed to enjoy playing with the most, mind you she didn't twig they were chocolate and that you could eat them! 🤣🤣

It was back to work yesterday, but now off until the 3rd, had to go to Sainsbury's but it wasn't too busy,  I think they just have over ordered the cheese as they still had lots of extra shelves full.

The caravan is now packed and ready to go tomorrow, just glad the wind is forecast to drop. Its been blowing a hoolie, last night it woke us up. The night before we were woken by the foxes playing in street, they can certainly make a lot of noise 😀 but fun to watch.

I am not entirely shingles free WN thanks for asking. It is getting better but still lets me know if I do too much. A good excuse to sit down with a good book!

Local son and DIL popped over for a snack lunch today which was good. Nice to have a catch up without all the noise and excitement of the last few days.

Glad you had such a lovely day with your little grand daughter helen and trevor. I hope you have a safe journey tomorrow and a good New Year break.

Went to Waitrose today. Despite car park seeming quite busy the shop was OK. When we were paying at the Quick Check till Margaret's phone went off. No use asking her to take a call in noisy surroundings so I took the call and even I had difficulty hearing. I could see that it was MK Hospital so I walked don't to the entrance lobby where I could hear. I explained I was taking the call on her behalf as she has difficulty with the sound. Good news, she has an appointment for the 22nd January to have one hands sorted which was pretty quick after the appointment last week. The only downside is that it is for 7.15 am in the morning!!!!

B2, sorry to hear that your OH hadn't felt too well but hope that he has improved by now. You certainly seem to have had a busy family Christmas.

DBS,  good to hear that your daughter & SIL made it safely over to the mainland, and I now hope that they have arrived with you.

DK, pleased to read that your wife has a date for her operation, even if you have to be at the hospital at the crack of dawn.

Hope that you are soon completely rid of the Shingles, Millie.. These sort of infections certainly take a while to go.

Bet not only your grandchildren enjoyed the circus, OP. It has been a long time since we last visited one. Hope your brother is improving, although I guess It will be a long process.

Hve a safe tow tomorrow, H&T, we too move on to another CL tomorrow, one that you used in Autumn last year.

Yet another day of mixed weather, but thankfully the wind has dropped. We visited the Country Park again, which was much quieter than on Boxing Day, before stopping off at Aldi on the way back to the van for a few things, especially bread. Have booked a table at The Old Oak for lunch on New Year's Eve for a meal with our son and SIL, who we haven't seen since the summer.

Pleased to hear that everyone seems to have had a good Christmas.  I have to say that ours has been a bit 'mixed', largely due to the weather.  We have also had wind, wind and more wind although nowhere near as bad as those poor people in Stalybridge, so we shouldn't grumble. We were due to go home today but having looked at the forecast, yesterday, although it's going to be relatively calm here, there are 40+ mph winds forecast for East Yorks later which would probably mean the Humber Bridge being closed to high-siders and all the aggravation of 'going around' - so booked another night and will be travelling tomorrow.  Just not worth the risk when we don't have to.

What a difference a Warden makes!!  The two that were here at Sandringham two years ago - and have been here for some time - have been moved elsewhere, temporarily I understand. The atmosphere has been totally different and the 'stand-ins' haven't made that much of an effort. I don't think we'll bother coming all this way for Christmas again - especially given the prices!

Pleased folks have had a good Christmas, thankfully we are in reasonable good health, hope all those still not quite so lucky recover soon.

just returned from a tour of the parish on my bike, so so quiet this morning, very little wind, solent very calm, no real sign of damage from the wind except for a few branches on the ground and a very large spread of red berries on our pavement from the trees, but suprisingly our tree which is full of berries in the back garden has not shead any.

have a couple of guests staying so we are planning lunch down the beach house with maybe a stroll along the prom, OH has a poorly left foot so not able to walk far so i am pushing her around in the wheelchair at the moment and the prom into Lee on the Solent is all tarmac so good place to get some exercise and some fresh air, sun just rising so shaping up to being a good day laughing

A lovely but busy Christmas, 13 of us staying with Son & Daughter in law, us our Daughter and family and D-I-Ls Mother. On Boxing Day D-I-Ls family all came for the evening, so a fair few of us, lots of teenagers which was lovely. Our granddaughter was poorly on Boxing Day and spent most of the day in bed so we had a little warning but she was taken very badly in the evening, due to the warning we managed and we didn’t have to call an ambulance, she was a little brighter by the following day. We managed to visit Windsor, a family Christmas tradition, but it bucketed down all day, so we didn’t stay too long. The castle looked beautiful all lit up and the pictures projected on the tower were drawings of Christmas scenes done by children, very impressive. Christmas dinner was traditional, we all pitched in, I cooked a huge turkey but their oven is so low I kept having to call eldest grandson to lift it out in order to baste it, our oven isn’t high, a Range-master, but I couldn’t manage at home with their oven. All full after dinner so pud had to wait until the evening. Not a good journey home yesterday, we briefly called in to the church where OH parents are at rest, but no other stops and it took us 5.30 hours to get home, detour the M25 due to traffic build up, then M4 M5 packed and sudden down-pours dreadful so traffic very slow. Lots of 40 mile PH warnings. Home safe, which is the main thing.
