That’s how our friends described Cheltenham WN, a soulless car park. Usually, racecourses are very nice.
DSB, Uttoxeter closed earlier this year after a very bad traveller incursion. We met some CAMC staff back in September who said something about helping shut it up, but it was unclear if this was for season, or for good. It might well depend on Jockey Club rather than CAMC I suppose.

We stayed at Cheltenham Racecourse several years ago. We had a choice of the 'car park' paved section or a grass pitch looking out over the course to the surrounding hills. You can guess which we chose and it was very pleasant although a long way from the facility block.

We’ve had a brilliant one night away at Harrogate. Show of Hands were on top form and the venue (Royal Hall) is an amazing place. The staff and/or volunteers are wonderfully helpful, and help make the night out.
It gave us a chance to give our new car a decent run, though the diverted route (5 week closure of A59 up from Skipton) was a bit stop start through Ilkley and Otley etc.
Tonight we’re going to a secret surprise 50th Birthday Party so it’s all go to get milking etc done in time.

We used to camp at Wincanton, that was a heck of a long walk back down to the facilities there. 😁

It depends where you pitched. We really liked that site and it was superb for dogs.

Yes, we were pitch fairly close to the facilities. Such a pity it closed. The one we really miss is the Wenlock Edge site.

Plus, of course, all this nonsense with the latest posts in various categories after the "essential maintenance", it does not make life easy, or make one want to come on CT.
I have noticed that there are far fewer posts on here than there used to be, in all categories.

We often used the Wincanton site to break the journey if we were travelling on the A303. Its closure left a gap.
At the time it closed I contacted the racecourse operator and asked if there were plans to continue running the site away from CAMC. Unfortunately, there were not.

Always as far to the right as possible with a tent😁 It did make for a nice sense of camaraderie if there were one or two others up there. We shared a few drinks with a couple of Dutch brothers, sent them on their way to Cornwall with a marked up map of some of the best things to see. They were on classic motorbikes. Another time we did stay with van, I had a ball at the big Bead Fair that was on at the time. Liked the town as well. Yes, as you say superb for dogs. I think there was a Pony Club event on as well one time.
We miss Wenlock Edge as well Nellie, but did find a couple of nice CLs not far away, closer the Church Stretton.

Have not seen that.....would be good if it was highlighted on the site page!
Why not mark it as closed rather than full? Giving members correct information does not seem to be a priority for the Club.
Almost 3 months seems a long time to close it, cannot think what they could be doing that would take that long.
Toilet blocks possibly.....but why so long? Otherwise, we have been there several times, I cannot think what would need to be done.

I was wondering the same thing about Longleat? Whether 'serviced pitches' are work in progress and that they have 'prepared the webpage' for when the pitches are completed. There are serviced pitches already marked on tbe site plan though....

Finding CT quite depressing old posts dragged up from years ago, some of which are from people or refer to pets that are no longer with us, as you say KjellNN fewer posts and i notice that a lot of folk who used to be regulars are now non shows, but a lot of topics that are raised have been covered in past posts so sometimes it is a bit repetitive, i trend to bob in early morning whilst having coffee and then possible PM as it is dark now by 1700 hrs, off to Tring today to have lunch with family, we lived in Tring for almost 20 years when we were first married, lovely place but had to move to Scotland for work and then did not want to return south but here we are and really enjoying the more temperant weather.

Great news - we’re investing £2.5 million in improving our hugely popular Edinburgh Club Campsite over 2024 and 2025. The site will close fully from 8 January to 3 March 2024 and will partially reopen on 4 March 2024. The site is expected to fully reopen from 30 August 2024.

Have to say, the refurbished shower/loo blocks will be very nice if they are similar to what has been done at Clumber. No having to wait around while cleaning is done any more.

The CAMC do a lot of good things for your average Caravanner/Motorhomer but they still manage to incorporate a streak of Amateurism into quite a bit of it.Hosing down today, complete opposite from a lovely day yesterday where we managed to finally get a long walk in. I'd need a dog to be tempted outside in this.

Have we done something to upset the weather gods? Back in the middle of October we went away to celebrate Mrs M's birthday in Dartmouth. We travelled on the day storm Babet hit. Last weekend we met up with her sisters and OH's in a very nice cottage near Towcester, driving on the day storm Ciaran decided to grace us (lovely weekend but planned walks mostly thwarted by road closures for HS2 work!
). This week we have booked a rather swish looking dog friendly country house hotel break near Brecon - starting tomorrow and Monsieur Schafernacker has just promised storm Debi is due to arrive!Thinking we might just like to tell folks when we're planning to be away so they can avoid those times!

WN, you can borrow Flyte if you like, at least until the Spring!😆 As it has turned out we managed a couple of dry walks this morning, getting back from the second one just as the rain started. A further two walks since lunchtime have been set ones, but maybe the last one will begin the dry.
Hope it's a bit dried tomorrow as we are taking him to the vets for his annual injection and check up, and then we are dropping the caravan off at the dealer's to get a couple of jobs done.

Not had a very good weekend.
I was invited to take a stall at a craft fair, one I went to last year, where it was busy and we made sales of over £500.This year it was very poorly attended and sales were £160. By the time one pays the table fee of £30, has to donate an item worth at least £10 to the raffle, takes off the cost of bought in materials (about 1/3 of the selling price), and other incidentals, there was about £70 left, very disappointing considering all the time and effort involved!
Presumably partly a reflection of the rising cost of living, though the venue is in an affluent area, but talking with other participants, it seems there was a lack of publicity for the event. The organisers did not lose out financially, only the stall holders, but they will probably find fewer stallholders willing to return next year.
Hopefully my efforts will not have been totally wasted. There is a Christmas Fair at Callum's school in early December, I have taken a table, and possibly one at another local school the following weekend, so 2 opportunities to sell some more items.

Pleased to report the Jeep sailed through, with no advisories, so we are happy bunnies. We have had all three vehicles MOTed this last six weeks, so praying nothing was amiss. We intend testing one again in early Summer to split them up a bit. A strange year with not being able to get away much, all four of our vehicles added together don’t add up to single mileage for one in a normal year. ☹️
Moulsey, share your plans for December please. We are looking at a week away, and need to know if you are jinxing us😁 It a bit wild and windy here at the moment, lots of overnight rain, but we have blue skies now. Hope it stays dry, our new next door neighbours move in today.

Sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the craft fair, Kjell, fingers crossed for better fortunes at the others.
We have had very wrong winds and heavy rain for much of the day. The visit to the vets went fine, although we got rather wet getting there, but due to the winds I decided to postpone taking the caravan to the dealer's until early tomorrow morning.

Got soaked yesterday taking the van to the dealers for the Warranty work (damp) to be sorted. The wind was also very strong. Fortunately by the time we got home at least the rain had ceased.
Booked tickets for the Thursford Christmas show for later this month. It must be 8 to 10 years since we last went. We will combine it with a long weekend in the van up in North Norfolk

Cornwall for Christmas, TtDA - what could possibly go wrong with the weather down there in December?
Think predictive text gave our destination this week as Brecon - it's actually near Bridgend, a hotel way up in the hills looking down over the forest, booked again through Pets Pyjamas. Couple in the next room have a lovely young terrier with them, happily all the dogs getting on well together, very civilised.
Absolutely pouring down this morning so we drove along to Porthcawl and by the time we got there the rain had stopped but, boy, was the wind blowing! Had a stroll along the promenade to Rest Bay and back. Then this afternoon came back via Merthyr Mawr, the highest sand dunes in the UK, where they filmed much of Lawrence of Arabia. Spectacular walk and actually got too warm for a coat, odd weather we're having right now. Back at the hotel now looking forward to dinner.
