Hi  Interesting Posts etc.  Last week We  Have had a worrying Noise coming from  the rear of our 2016 V W Tiguan 4motion  It's the first time we Towed our 2017 4 Berth  Swift Ace Globetrotter with  the Tiguan. We were leaving our Village which  involved going over speed humps at walking pace with no problem. Until we  had to go over a unavoidable rather raised Road repair. As the  rear wheels of the Car met the  level road surface after the road repair there was an almighty booming sound from rear of Car as if  someone had hit a oil drum with a mallet.                                   I had a check  a s a p  under Car  and could not see any damage.  We carried on with our 160 mile journey to site Via  A34 M4 M5 A39  with no  further Problems.

However on  returning to our Village using the same route we again had the  noise at the same location.  I'm suspecting  Car Springs may need some beefing up with some Spring assistors. Although when we hitched Caravan to Car. The Car stayed level. Our Car is now  booked in to  local   V W Garage for investigation  and fitting of Spring Assistors.

I had a similar issue that has been bugging me for several months. A loud banging at various times which sounded fairly serious. Seemed to be more often at higher speeds and stronger winds, but not related to bumps or bends. We have 3 touring vans (dont ask!) and after testing it happened with all 3 so very unlikely to be the 'vans but all seemed well on the car which was fairly new including checking the towbar ball and mounting - all was well.

Found Francis's post and thought anything worth a try so removed the car number plate on the last run and hey, it fixed it!. The plate wasn't even loose although you could "ping" the edges with your fingers.

Applied some stickies to the extreme edges of the plates, re-attached and all still good.

Moral - Once you eliminate the most likely, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth!
