New Nissan X Trail

Has anyone experienced problems with the dealer fitted towing electrics on the new Nissan X Trail E Power not operating the caravan ATC? Have you found a solution?

We have just taken delivery of a new Xtrail but before delivery we identified a potential problem with the  towing electrics and alerted the dealer.  We were reassured that this was not an issue and took delivery 2 weeks ago. First time hitching on the caravan - no ATC!  Nissan Customer Services now say the Xtrail cannot support ATC and are offering no solution to this. Given the Xtrails previous reputation as a tow car this seems very shortsighted and leaves with a car not fit for purpose.

I believe if you have specifically asked at time of order that ATC function is available, have been told it is, but now find it is not, then you have just cause for refusing/returning the vehicle.

Take the vehicle back to the dealer and tell them you want it fully wired, ATC requires a permanent live feed to pin 9 and earth to pin 13. Fridge requires Ignition fed live to pin 10 and earth to pin 11, otherwise refuse the vehicle.

I cannot believe we are still having this problem since we have been using the 13 pin system for the past 20 years or so.

Sounds like Nissan customer services don't probably don't know what ACT is, as already said a simple permanent live feed will cure the issue - dealer should be able to fix!

Whether 13 pin or not there is no requirement to have all pins of an electric socket connected. If you need a full complement of assigned pins you have to ask although most manufacturers seem to be adding the missing connections now that fitment of ATC has become so widespread.

I have never had to ask for a fully wired socket on any of my eight Land Rovers.

Did the OP get any resolution on this out of interest.  Considering purchasing one, and would be interested to know if solution is as stated by those that seem to be in the know on these things.

    Thanks

Ford Kuga hybrid/PHEV were experiencing problems with pins 9 and 11 prematurely discharging the 12v habitation battery, I believe later model were fitted with relays to overcome the issue ?

My Volvo XC40 came with dealer fitted Volvo towbar. Works fine while the engine is running, but after switching engine off the ATC intermittently switches off, then resets.

It does it when the engine is started, when the central locking is operated, and sometimes for no discernible reason. Presumably caused by voltage drop when the car is carrying out some mysterious internal function, which apparently it can do for up to 10 minutes after switching off.

Dealer and Volvo UK technical team so far unable to identify or cure problem.

My caravan dealer has recently had another customer, towing with new XC60, with the identical issue.

Has anyone managed to solve this?
