    +1.

We feel exactly the same. Sometimes you come across intact churches that are over 1100 years old. There aren't many other buildings from that era still standing and intact. Hemingford Manor in Cambridgeshire is one of only two houses still being lived in that are 900 years old and not as easy to visit.

2 relatively dryish days so plenty of gardening done. Caravan cleaning will have to wait a while. Brown bins this week so we had plenty of shrubs that needed cutting back, lawns to be mowed and deadheading plants. 2 full bins now plenty a reserve old black bin.

Had a haircut from OH this morning so have been deadheaded myself.

Good luck to those with car and caravan problems.

Bit late for my father I'm afraid as he passed away 36 years ago. He died of lung cancer and my elder brother wondered whether his attendance at these tests had anything to do with it. I managed to convince him that a 40 a day cigarette habit was more likely to be the cause although I do know that moves have been made for some sort of acknowledgement and compensation for some who have been affected.

Good to hear the MOT went well.

We moved on again this morning to Woolpit near Stowmarket and another new to us CL, Swan Lake, situated adjacent to a number of works units and close to the A14 but well shielded by trees and is surprisingly quiet.  I had a wander into the village this afternoon and took in another church, St Mary's.  It is mainly 15C, although the spire was added in 1870. It has "Suffolk's most perfectly restored hammerbeam roof" and a profusion of medieval carved pew-ends.

Totally with you on this Nellie. They are often some of the UK’s oldest buildings still standing, and represent fascinating glimpses into how our society has evolved. The architecture, the construction, the historical events that have taken place, the different levels of society that have walked through the doors, and of course the power struggles, oppression, murders that have taken place, and that’s without even touching on the religious aspects. We probably visit a different church every week for a look around. Couldn’t get into today’s near Brodsworth, but the outside was still interesting.

I’ve been dead headed as well today WN🤣

I think that the "exact science" is similar to the BBC Weather computer seems to be, as that gets it wrong around 4 times, before they get it right as well!

If you want to view a very old Church, parts of the one at Wooten Wowen, not far from Stratford on Avon, date from the 9th century. It mentions it in the Nicholsons Canal Guide to the area, so I popped in one day when I was moored up near there and went in to have a look around.

I totally agree with nellie. WN and TDA Churches are the most wonderful buildings, some of them around 1000 years old. The architecture is beautiful and I always think of all the people that have built the building and been in the church and used it over many, many years. I wish the walls could talk! I love telling the stories of the people involved with Peterborough Cathedral when I give my tours. There are are wonderful stories to tell but also some very sad ones as well. We belong to our local U3A churches group when once a month our group goes round one of the churches that are fairly local to us (about a 15 to 20 miles radius) and a local guide tells us about the history of the church and the village.

We have had quite a social time recently. We met up with some friends for lunch who we hadn't managed to see all summer for one reason or another and I also drove OH and a friend of ours who had a hip operation about a month ago to visit another friend of all of us who lives in Stamford when a good time was had by all. We are now 'double jabbed' - flu jab last week and covid jab this morning.

We had the 'mother and father' of all thunderstorms on Monday night. It was right overhead and lasted for ages. The rain lashed down for most of the night. We are now forecast temperatures of around 25 degrees for the weekend!

WN, on similar lines as your father then, although what your father went through would have been very traumatic.  What my OH did at Orford Ness was not on the same lines..  But yes, the secrecy surrounding it all would have been the same of course.

I didn't actually know my OH when he worked there, but he's told me plenty about it and of course I've seen it with my own eyes as well now;  We did get to see round the building a few years ago, OH said it hadn't changed at all since it closed down in 1973.

Absolutely hosing it down outside. Have to go to Chester in half an hour for dental check ups. We usually park just outside and walk in but....

Unfortunately our trip away next week coincided with our appointments so had to amend them and take what was offered. Be coming out in rush hour. Not in OHs good books for agreeing to new appts. I'm sure she'll reconsider whilst sitting there having her teeth scraped by hygienist.smile

    Take care folks.

Left Balbirnie by 11am and were by 1pm, only one short stop en route.

Weather very poor, rain started just as we were hitching up, and continued for the whole trip.  Not heavy, but must have been heavy earlier as lots of very large puddles around.  Usual heavy traffic and delays on M8 coming through town.

Got the heating running in the house, fetched in some food from the van, and had lunch.  Now trying to summon the will to go out in the rain to move van onto the drive, and empty the fridge so it can be turned off.

Very dull and chilly here in Glasgow.

Well it's been 3 weeks since we left home. In that time we have worked our way down France and into northern Spain.

We are now on the northwest coast of Spain slowly working our way down to Portugal. The first few days in France were a bit mixed weather but since then we have had beautiful blue skies and lovely warm/hot sun.

The sites were very busy from the French/Spanish border across to Santander and up in the Picos at Potes. Since then things have been much less busy and pace of life is much slower. We had a day at Santiago de Compostella, then a few days on a rural site in Galicia. Now on a coastal site near Cangas. Views of mountains behind and sea in front, what more can you ask for.

Next week is forecast to be very hot all across Iberia so taking our time going south.

Finally done the trip we had planned twice before but got rained off both times. It really is green along this way and stunning to.

The Picos were something else, we took the mh off site one day and drove up to the cable car. Oh boy was it high, the views from the top were excellent, not a cloud in the sky and the bluest blue you could imagine, the air so clear.

We've had a few foraging trips, walnuts and sweet chestnuts. The last site we were on had lots of chestnut trees so we didn't have to go far.

Had a walk down to the beach here earlier on, very nice, the sea is cold though.

Must go an marinade the chicken for tonight's dinner.

Have fun everyone and stay safe.

I haven't been away for a wee time as I'm going through a bit of a health scare. Various tests done the last one being carried out at the Royal hospital for youngsters( No longer Sick Kids!)I am 67 years old! The appointment was 4:20 I was back in the car at 4:22, ok I was 10mins early but that was fast! The scanner had Smiley faces on it! Just waiting for the results now.

Then on Tuesday took a drive down to St Abbs, a beautiful afternoon at the harbour, better still Coffee and Cake in the cafe on the harbour. Finding small rewards for me!

Yesterday I got beaten up by a group of women dressed in a blue uniform, in other words had my Covid & Flu jabs! Shoulders a bit achy but they warned me as usual!

"Very dull and chilly here in Glasgow."

one of the reasons we moved south after living north of Aberdeen for 12 years, we always seemed to be under a cloud whilst Breamar 30 miles inland was basking in glorious sunshine. My OH suffers from raynauds syndrome so cold and wet not good for her.

Was looking at the weather forecast at lunch time and Ireland & the West coast is not good, whilst we should be basking in temps of 23-25 degs come tomorrow. Did not swim yesterday or today, Solent far to rough and very breezy on the beach, lots of kite/wind surfers out.

Got my Shingles jab tomorrow and flu/covid on Monday, just done medication review on line & hyper tension review all on line, dont know why they dont close our surgery down, you never get inside the door, it would appear all our jabs are now being done at the village pharmacy

Good to hear from you Robsail. Hope the test results are quickly back🤞OH had some results back last week, all ok thankfully. I can just imagine the lovely little harbour at St Abbs, a special place for all those who love the sea. We first walked round there some 40 years ago, up to the lighthouse, then back inland via a small Loch if I recall correctly. We had a very boisterous six month old Airedale pup with us, along with our Rottweiler. The pup was on a lunging line, not trusted near the cliffs🫣 I took Mum there for a little walk around a couple of years ago.

Just had a nice hour in garden, starting to clear borders now, ready for Winter. Breezy, but warm, our trees haven’t started shedding yet.

We too have had our Covid jabs, done today at a pharmacy about 3 mls from the site We are on at the moment. We too were there early, for a 3:00 appointment, and were driving out of their car park at 3:02!!😆 We spent the morning at Needham Lakes and then restocked our food supplies at Stowmarket on the way back to the van. It has been another dry day with a mixture of high cloud and sunshine.

Pleased to hear from you Robsail

The visits with your church group sounds like a great idea, millie, and I am sure you find out a lot more going with them than by visiting the churches in one's own.

Glad to read that you got home ok, Kjell, did the car's display clear itself or is it still not working? If the latter I hope that you are able to get it sorted without being too expensive.

Unfortunately not nellie.  I have ordered a cable which may help me to work out which component in the system is the culprit, it is waiting for me at DD's house, will get it tomorrow.  Worth a try anyway.

We are pretty  busy for the next 2-3 weeks, so if I still have made no progress by then, I will be able to get it booked in with our workshop avter that.

A lovely day so a trip to Arlington Court just for a wander around, didn’t bother going in the house as been so many times. Mostly older people, like ourselves, out for a stroll, young Mums with toddlers and dog walkers.

The State carriage that has been on display for 11 years has sadly been recalled back to London to be put on display there. The little pretend driving carriage stood empty, all our grandchildren used to make a bee line for it and take it in turns to pretend to drive it with the others as passengers, they drove it to Disneyland, Spain, the Rain Forest and even the Moon once. OH looked at it sadly and said, ‘never mind, maybe we will have great grandchildren to drive it’. I replied that would be nice but not too soon as they are mostly still at Uni!

While we and others were sitting outside the cafe one young Mum turned her back for a moment and her toddler immediately jumped in a big muddy puddle splashing around, it made everyone smile.

Another dry day which started up cloudy and slowly brightened up. We first visited Lavenham to have a look around The Guild Hall which wasn't open the last time we came to the town. Then it was onto Melford Hall where, after lunch, and a walk with Flyte around the parkland, we wandered over to the house. Following a very informative introductory talk by one of the NT volunteers we went round the house.and gardens.

Kjell, sorry to read that the problem has not resolved itself. Fingers crossed that you are able to come up with a solution without having to take it into your vehicle repair guy.

Have had quite a busy week, last weekend we thought we hadn't seen our elderly neighbour out with his dog, which was unusual. We went to check on him, and he said everything was okay. The next day a friend also hadn't heard from him so popped in to see him, and he seemed a bit more confused than usual so after contacting his daughter who basically said she wasn't bothered he was fine on the phone.

We were still concerned as he didn't seem well, so we got him an appointment with his doctor who immediately sent him to A&E, turned out he'd had a small bleed on the brain and was admitted to hospital. His daughter and son finally arrived in the evening.  Us and another  set of neighbours have been taking it in turns to dog sit and walk his dog all week, luckily she is very easy going although very over weight. She has never been off the lead so yesterday OH and another couple took Polly, their 2 dogs and the neighbours dog to a secure dog field, apparently they all had a lovely time,  we sent a video to his daughter to show him, hopefully it cheered him up to know she was happy.

Our neighbours son has now taken the dog home with him as it looks like he will be in hospital for a while.

It's a beautiful warm sunny day today, washing is out on the line and I've been changing sheets,  and making some soup

    Lovely photos. 🙂

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Good for you H&T. Breaks my heart sometimes that some elderly folks don’t appear to get the attention they perhaps need. Hope he does ok. Could be an idea to suggest a look at The Cinnamon Trust to him when he is a lot better? They can perhaps help out with some dog walking if needed, and it might give him a bit of peace of mind that someone will look after his dog if anything does happen. Doesn’t sound as if his family are interested, but I hope I’m proved wrong.

Thanks ttda, we did mention the Cinnamon Trust to them. We had a message from our neighbours daughter yesterday to say a cousin is now looking after the dog, they have had dogs in the past so sounds like he will be looked after. Our elderly neighbour is now quite poorly so we are keeping everything crossed 🤞

It's another beautiful day here can't believe it's October, I am making the most of the good weather and BG's offer of half price electricity for 5 hours today! 🙂

Meeting a few friends later this afternoon, possibly a few drinks too.🤣

It’s lovely here as well, so gardening for me. Our next door neighbour will be leaving end of October sadly. New buyers, all we know is they are expecting twins, but it’s good the house won’t be empty. Shall miss next door though, she is lovely, but sadly circumstances have changed. Don’t think she is going far, so can keep in touch.

Well done Helen in alerting your neighbour's GP about him being unwell. I dread to think what would have happened to him and his dog if there was no-one looking out for him. I do hope you get better news of him soon. Good to hear also that his dog is being looked after.

Good to hear from you robsail but sorry to hear that you have had a health scare. I hope you get the results quickly and that all is well. I hope you missed all the heavy rain in Scotland the past 2 days.

We have had news at last.  OH got a letter on Friday to say that he has been booked in to have a pacemaker fitted at the end of the month. We thought he was waiting for another appointment with the consultant and then be put on the waiting list so it came as a bit of a surprise. No further information about the procedure so hopefully we will find out a bit more at the pre-op appointment. Lovely weather here today and yesterday so spending time sorting out the garden.  There is a bit of an autumnal nip in the air morning and evening though. One of our grandsons was 16 on Friday so we went round to our daughter and SIL's for a meal and a lovely time was had by all. It looks as though he might follow in OH's footsteps and take double maths, applied maths and physics and A level and then study mechanical engineering. OH is chuffed to bits.

cant believe it, October and 24 degs today, fantastic to see so many people down the beach enjoying the sunshine, Solent was like a mill pond so had a really great swim and actually got a little sunburnt whilst drying off.

Had Shingles jab on Friday and felt a bit peculiar, sort of floating, but not quite so bad today, nurse did say it was a live vaccine and to expect some reaction, didnt say i would be floating. Covid and flu jab tomorrow, bloods on Thursday then hopefully i will be done and dusted and fit for another 3 years laughing

weather set fair for next week so hopefully more swimming cool

Weather here has been dire, a lot of rain and a bit chilly.

We are supposed to be taking the van to Inveraray this coming Saturday for DD and family to use, but the A83 is closed due to multiple landslides, so the  holiday is in doubt.   Hopefully the road will be opened before next Saturday.

DS is also due to use that road to travel to their cottage on Islay for the school holiday week, so 2 trips could be affected.

Today we have been doing washing and my tax return......the latter always stressful as OH is trying to teach me how to do it!      Unfortunately, for some reason that HMRC cannot work out, I am meantime unable to register for on line submission.   This has been going on for several years, and nobody seems to know how to sort it.   ☹️
