What are you all up to

Helen, Polly certainly looks comfortable there!
Glad that you are having a good trip, Francis.
WN, have a safe drive home tomorrow. That is definitely an impressive castle there.
After another round of washing, which again dried outside, we parked at Thurne by the Drainage Windmill and followed the river as far as St Peter and St Paul's Church at Repps where we had our lunch. Spotted this young snake on our walk. Back to the car along the lanes and then back to our site via Acle and Filby Bridge where we had another short walk. This is our last night here before we head on down to near Saxmundham tomorrow.
The Church is partly Saxon with Norman additions such as the hexagonal upper parts of the tower. It is more impressive from the outside, as inside it is rather plain.

An impressive snake photo Nellie but no more please, I’m terrified of them. I’m always very apprehensive when gardening in case I see one near our wood boundary and wear big wellies. I didn’t even do our usual blackberry pick this year, due to the local vet putting up signs in the field warning dog walkers of the presence of adders. Bad enough last week when a massive toad jumped up while gardening, he can have the slugs but wish he’d stay away from me. I always say I’m not so bothered by spiders but the two found in the house last night were almost the size of a mouse.

Not a bad day yesterday we took a drive up to Newcastle paid a visit on the way to the Angel of the North such an impressive sculpture visited it many times but still find it a great piece of engineering and art. We then made our way in to the city and had a wander around the quayside and a walk across the Tyne Bridge city wasn’t too busy most cities are but every time we have visited Newcastle it’s been quiet. Had dinner and a drink at the Wetherspoons on the quayside. All in a very enjoyable day. Sun shining here this morning but a bit breezy.
Love the pic of your new dog Helen hoping she settles in ok

Really good to see so many folks enjoying themselves in their RV's, cottages, hotels etc, congrats to H&T with their new dog, we are still resisting the temptation, just returned from 3 weeks in glorious Devon at a site we have used for quite a few years, and i was surprised at the number of folk that asked after Rufs, but OH still not steady on her feet so not sure another dog is a good idea.
Not a lot changed in Tavistock, except our local pub has closed which was a bit of a blow, they dished up some lovely meals.
First 2 weeks the weather was glorious 20 - 25 degs, i was in the sea pool at Bude on lots of occasions and the site pool with jacuzzi and sauna just right for ending off the day, had to get the Spanish fan out for night time sleeping, far to hot. 3rd week was mixed but not cold, however, we did have a lot of heavy dew so it was difficult to keep the awning dry as it was not in full sun until midday.
We returned home a few days early as we thought hurricane Alice was going to hit hard, but i dont think it was a big problem, however we were able to get the awning down in the dry which is a big plus.
spent quite a bit of time exploring Dartmoor, there are quite a few tracks that are wheelchair friendly so OH was well able to walk them, i think Devon have had quite a bit of rain as you can see from the photies.
Not sure why we go away sometimes, today has been gorgeous, 22 degs, Solent 18 degs and it looks as even the Starlings are wondering whether they should go or stay and weather is set fair for 10 days.
going to put the caravan to bed for winter now, maybe do a trip to Spain in the Spring 2024 but need to speak nicely to the Travel insurance folk to see how much they will want to cover OH after her stroke, but not too fussed had a great time touring in the UK this year.

Sorry about that Debs, I will try to keep any photos of others I might see to the "What have you seen" post. To be honest that one was no bigger than a large garden worm.

Good to hear Mrs. Rufs coming along and getting out and about.
We like Newcastle as well Francis, especially the bridges. I had a great time in my single days as 3 of us used to travel to Newcastle for the weekend as we had a mate in Uni there. Even hitchhiked once from Liverpool. The generosity of people who picked us up amazes me now. Who would want to stop for 3 long haired louts from Liverpool? We didn't have any problems though.
Got home after a bit of a delay due to a couple of badly placed broken down vehicles. At least we had lunch at home.
Took most of the rest of the afternoon unpacking the van and car. The garden looks like both of us, in need of a good haircut.
Nice snake Nellie.

Glad you got home ok, WN, guess it will be cleaning it tomorrow if the weather is fine.
Nice to hear from you, Rufs, and that you had a good trip away your OH is managing to get around.
Sounds like a grand day out in Newcastle, Francis. We tend to stay out of cities, and even large towns these days with the way Flyte is.
Another easy drive down to our latest CL, near Saxmundham. Had a very interesting chat with the site owner, and a couple of good off-road walk around the farm's fields. It has been another lovely warm sunny day.

Hi WN
Whilst staying at the Broadway site almost 2 years ago, I decided to go by bus to Moreton in the Marsh to visit the market. I didn't know that the timetable had changed the day before to the winter schedule and the return bus would be over a 2 hour wait, so I decided to walk back to Broadway, then as an afterthought decided to try hitchhiking (which I had not done for nearly 50 years). A very nice chap picked me up and even though he was not going to Broadway, he went out of his way to take me there and drop me off at the entrance to the site. We read or hear so many awful stories in the news, that we forget just how generous many people are.
Not all timetables at bus stops are correct, so if you are using public transport, always check what time it is running, especially in spring or autumn!

One advantage of a Smart Phone and Google Maps as it can give you live time information on buses where you are. We once stayed at the Leek site and caught the bus to Buxton and the service was, I think, only every three hours so we were constantly looking at the time to make sure we didn't miss the return service!

A planned full gardening day today but it’s very overcast and now drizzling. I hope it cheers up as lots of washing to get dry too. To be honest Nellie I’m even terrified of finding slow worms and how big are they!
Yesterday we went for a stroll on our local beach, OH can’t walk far so we popped in for a coffee, then I leave him relaxing while I go for a quicker walk. We were surprised that there were still so many holidaymakers still here, enjoying lunch. I think that the season is gradually stretching, we do seem to get warmer autumns than spring.
Our Son has arranged for us to go on the Harry Potter Warner’s tour with them as a late birthday treat for us in a few weeks. Yesterday we received the email telling us all about the tour, looking forward to that.

I did try and post last night, but somehow it was lost, all I got was a server error, this site doesn't change!
We had a beautiful sunny warm day yesterday, certainly makes you feel better. Had to pick up my prescription yesterday, pharmacy couldn't find it, then when they did it wasn't complete will have to go back next week 😠
OH has gone to get his flu and covid jabs this morning, I'm contemplating getting the flu jab, but will have to pay for it this year.
Hoping to go to NT Canons Ashby this afternoon for Apple Day.
Glad you made it home all safe and sound WN.
Hope your CL is a good one Nellie, We nearly went back to Suffolk this year but opted for Devon.
I've been going back reading posts, haven't seen any from Brue is she still posting or has anyone heard from her?

Helen No No-one has heard from brue since August and we are all a bit worried about her. They sold their motorhome in August and we thought maybe it was taking a while to sort her out on CT as a non member but it has now been too long for that. If anyone can get in touch with brue can they please send her our best wishes and give us news of her on here.

Had a meal out with friends of ours yesterday and then they took us for ride around their area now roughly where you are Rufs as they live in Lee on Solent, on our last site at Rookesbury before we leave tomorrow night to St Malo and funnily enough our friends will be on the same ferry and they only booked 10 days ago and so will be able to visit them the following week in the Dordogne as they are staying in a gite for a week.
Just wish the weather could have been dryer for our stay here and I left my walking boots at home so some restrictions re walking as I did not want to use my new trainers for muddy tracks.
Weather still very warm at home 30C+ today and 33C tomorrow just hope it gets a bit cooler by the time we get home a week tomorrow.
Glad folks are enjoying their breaks away.

Just catching up. Good to hear there have been some nice trips away, our weather has been very nice this week, warm, and dry. Congrats on the lovely dog H&T. Some nice interesting photos. Hope everyone is staying fit and well, at least as good as expected.
Was hoping Brue might be around now…..

I suddenly remembered that I should have brue's phone number in my mobile from when we met up some few years ago in Norfolk and I found it! So I sent her a text and she texted back to say that they are both fine but as they had sold their motorhome she decided to leave the forum for the time being but to let you all know that they are OK. I said we would love to see her back if she changes her mind.

Was in Lee yesterday, i cycled down and was swimming by the splash park, beach slopes away quite steeply there so good for swimming when the tide is on the turn. Just off for another dip, high tide 1500 ish so should be perfect
Thanks to all for wishing my OH well, she has improved remarkably, almost back to full mobility, sometimes the brain stops sending signals to her left foot which can be annoying and the stroke has def affected her balance which i dont think will recover now, she has a wheelchair but seldom uses it, she is back driving, she has an automatic so does not need her left foot and she is fine sat down. She does get very tired and can sleep for England but not such a bad thing it means I have more control over the TV remote

I did a post whilst having a cuppa after dog walk and before starting gardening.
I echoed milliehull's comments about brue. Now read that she's all good. Be nice to see posts from her from time to time.
Glad folks having good times at home or away. Loving the photo
I either didn't post properly or it's been eaten 🤐
Good to read Rufus OH doing well. Don't give up on her recovery yet my OH was told it can go on slowly for years. His was 4.5 years ago, completely delibated. All much improved now and to look at him you'd never know. Sadly there are changes 😢, not being able to drive being his worst. He tires easily and continues to sleep 😴 💤
Dry day but hasn't lived up to earlier promise. Still good for gardening. Break from that now for some food preparation for our contribution to harvest lunch. Couldn't get away with leaf salad this year, so much fine chopping needed. Making it now so it can infuse flavours and I can tick it off the list....
Collected grandson from nursery, played, fed and put him to bed. He's great and has a good conversation with you for 2.5 years. He's latest activity is to get naked in bed. He's been dry in the day since Easter. He calls you after he's stripped, including his nappy, and weed. So had to hunt for clothing and bed sheets..... Luckily he went to sleep after that excitement.
Right delaying tactics must cease....

I’m sure you will enjoy the Harry Potter tour DEBSC. 10 of us went there (about 6 years ago now) for a big family outing. The grandchildren really enjoyed it but so did the adults. It was interesting to see all the artefacts and how they did the scenes etc. We enjoyed the books too!
Glad to hear brue is ok. Isn’t it nice how folk worry about each other when there is a silence for a while. What a kind group this is.We are away soon to Harmby CL, near Leyburn. If anyone has stayed there you will have seen the apartment above the garages, well, we are using that and it looks very good. Will report back later!
Your little grandson sounds cute B2, he is at a lovely age, if tiring for the adults!?
Good to hear all the trips around and about are going well. Love the photos of the unusual trees.

Glad you got home ok, WN, guess it will be cleaning it tomorrow if the weather is fine.
No chance Nellie. Been raining all day today.⛈
Really pleased to hear that The Brues are well. Thanks Millie.
We normally hit North Norfolk in time for a change in bus timetables at the end of September/first thing October and have been caught out before. Ironically we were there mid September and didn't use the Coasthoppper service once.🤷🏼
Yep, tiredness certainly a factor for stroke victims. I'm getting back to normal but OH has noticed that my regular sleeping is deeper as I've fallen asleep through both a thunderstorm and an outdoor disco this last trip.
If the weather doesn't improve tomorrow will probably sort out the inside of the caravan just in case we fancy a quick trip away in a few weeks time.

Weather here been a bit mixed over the past couple of days yesterday was sunny and quite warm so we made the most of it and got some steak burgers from the farm shop near the site and managed to get them cooked on the Cadac even got to sit outside for a while. Todays been pouring most of the day we went a drive in to Knaersborough for a wander round nice town one we plan to return to we plan to stay at the club site near the town maybe next year we shall see.
Glad to read that Brue is ok thanks Millie for finding out for us

Thanks Millie.
Good to know they are both okay. Hopefully Brue will be back posting soon. 🙂

We went to the Apple Day at Canons Ashby this afternoon, very busy even the 2 overflow carparks were full, we parked along the roadside and walked across the field, at least Polly got to stretch her legs as no cattle in the field. Had a wander round the stalls, picked up some heritage apples to try too. The gardens are still looking nice, although some parts were closed off.
Francis you are certainly packing alot into your Yorkshire break.
Hope the weather improves for you Wherenext.

Good to read that Brue is keeping well and hopefully will be posting again soon. Thanks for the update millie.
Sorry to see that you have had poor weather today, Francis and WN. Fingers crossed that it improves tomorrow.
Sounds like a good day out at Canons Ashby, Helen.
Enjoy your trip to Leyburn, Heddlo. We have stayed in CLs around there on a few occasions but never at that one.
We have had another fine day, a bit cloudier that the last few but still nice and warm and dry. We had a couple of walks on Dunwich and Westleton Heaths.

Moving to our next site tomorrow, The weather while here has not been great, sun off and on, but plenty of rain too.
On Thursday we had a short trip into Crieff for a look around. Parked just off the main street and wandered around for an hour. As in many towns, we found quite a few empty shops, but noted that there were several hairdressers, take-aways, chemists, cafes, and upmarket clothes shops.
We ventured into one nice looking food store, lots of tasty stuff on display, but the prices were very high, so we did not buy anything.
Yesterday morning I took a walk along the river while OH did some stuff in the caravan, and later we went to the nearby Christmas Shop, and the Visitor Centre in what was the Stuart Crystal factory.
Fantastic display of all things Christmas, quite bewildering!
The visitor centre has a nice looking cafe and sales of lots of glassware, antiques, second hand glass and china, clothing and various gifts. Both places were pretty deserted, I suppose the main tourist season is past now.Today was better weather in the morning, so we took a trip south to Glen Eagles and Glen Devon, then returned north via Dunning to Auchterarder and home again. Had not realised there were so many forestry plantations that you do not see when on the main A9, very interesting.
After lunch we went out for some essential shopping, and just made it home before the rain started. After dinner we discovered there was not only water outside, but also in the van!
OH commented that the pump was coming on at odd times, then said "what is that hissing noise?" Turned out to be a small leak in a HW pipe under the bed near the boiler, so a few wet items in there, wet carpet, and wet feet.
A pipe joint was leaking, the end of the pipe not making a good seal with the O ring in the push fit connector. Cut a small piece off the pipe and re-made the joint, which held for a while, but started leaking again. Looks like the pipe is deformed. So now I have had to turn off the pump and remove the pressure in the water system so we do not get another flood.
I have some spare pipe and connectors so will replace the piece in the morning, and hope that is more successful. The spares are in the car and it is now pouring with rain, so I am not doing it tonight.
Just what we need when we are travelling tomorrow. Luckily we are not going far, just to Balbirnie Club site at Glenrothes, which is only about a 75minute drive, so do not need to leave here until after 11.30.

feel for you KjeIINN, this happened to use a couple of years back whilst in Spain, we were lucky in as much we did not have anything in the locker, however, the mover control unit is on the floor in this locker, fortunately the water was spraying into the underside of the bunk so no major damage, the problem is the plastic hose they use over time becomes brittle and leaks occur fortunately ours was only a pin prick. As a temporary fix I used a piece of hydraulic hose, still going strong today, not exactly food grade standard but we never drink water directly from the tap, so only some tooth cleaning and washing of face so all good. Now have plenty of spare hose and a couple of connectors, but for now leaving well alone.
Glad we didnt venture up to Yorkshire directly from Devon to see my sister, looks like the place to be for the weather is anywhere south of Birmingham tks for all the info Richardandross re CL's etc i have tucked the info safetly away for next year.

For future reference Nellie we can recommend the Brookfields CL at Harmby. We stayed there a couple of times with the caravan. Beautiful views over the valley towards Middleham. Enjoy the rest of your trip to Suffolk, we always enjoyed Southwold and Aldeburgh when we lived nearer.

That’s great to know Millie. 👍

We got home early afternoon from a great 10 night break away. We were at Richmond Hargill House club site second time we have been there and really enjoyed it nice views from site and very easy to get to being out of season it wasn’t very busy either. It’s an area we know well so had plenty to do a highlight was visiting the Transporter bridge at Middlesborough. Weather was ok and the storm that was predicted didn’t come to much even managed a couple of cycle rides. Easy 3 and a half hour tow home today although parts of the A66 were very foggy but apart from that the roads were fine. That will be our last longer trip of the season but we hope to get a few more local weekends away before then end of the year. Got the caravan back on its space then gave the Volvo a clean it was filthy covered in mud as we ended up taking a de tour yesterday up a single track farm road however all nice and shiney again. We have things on over the next couple of weeks so won’t be away again to nearer the end of the month. Very nice sunny weather here at home so fired up the Cadac out the back garden and currently cooking two steak burgers we had left over from our trip to the farm shop the other day.
Hope everyone else is having a nice weekend

We’re back home from a week at the Wharfedale site. A good week away, despite the weather (mainly appalling rain). We explored some very narrow roads - not using the Sat Nav, but looking at a map before we set off and then going by instinct. Some days were more successful than others!
We ate out a few times, and made mental notes which to cross off our list for future visits. Mostly very good though. We had Afternoon Tea in Queen Victoria’s Coach on the Embsay & Bolton Abbey steam railway. A very interesting experience. We also had an Afternoon Tea at The Gamekeepers Inn near the site. A bit disappointing - the food was OK, but the atmosphere and ambience was poor.

We have stayed there a couple of times, Heddlo, and may try to get there again before the year is out.
