Tour of Tuscany

Hi

We are looking at doing a tour of tuscany May 2024, we have a large twin axle caravan and don't want to be constantly moving sites so any recommendations of maybe one or two sites where we can explore from in the car would be very helpful.

    With Italy its often a question of finding a campsite with large pitches, especially for a twin axle van. Some years ago we stayed here http://www.davidklyne.co.uk/camping_village_mugello_verde.html The pitches are long rather than wide so it might be a challenge to put an awning up but not impossible. Its not far from Florence and also near to Mugello if you are a fan of F1(might be best to avoid any motorsport weekends) It would allow you to explore Florence across to Pisa. A short bus ride from Siena is this campsite https://sienacamping.com/ We stayed there even more years ago! It could be a good base for visiting Siena, San Gimignano and Volterra. Hopefully you will get lots more suggestions.

    A difficult question to answer. Italian sites don’t lend themselves to the new generation of largeBritish caravans, and to see much  of Tuscany needs  touring.

    However, a site like Camping le Balze at Volterra has open undefined space which would suit a large outfit and that is rare in Italy. Volterra is attractive and less frenetic than the more famous hotspots in Tuscany, but you would have to drive an hour each way to visit them. We liked the informality of that campsite although it  is a bit rough round the edges in some ways and you might be critical of it if you want perfection.

    Hi, We have visited Italy many times, and camped in Tuscany thee times, but our van, now, is 7.3 m and single axle.

    Some sites pitches can be difficult to access without a mover as there tends to be lots of trees, shrubs and hedges delimiting the pitch.

    Also Tuscany is a very large area so it will depend on your preferences-coastal or inland, and of course what your expectations are of a camp site to suit you.

    As mentioned pitches may be on the smaller side and whilst we don’t usually book your circumstances may make it better to once you have confirmed that a site can accommodate you.

    Our last visit included a stay at Lago Trasimeno right in the Tuscany border but was rewarded with stereotypical Tuscan views, beautiful hilltop villages and picture box towns.
