CAMC site fees

If you really want to try an expensive site, this popped up on Facebook earlier this evening... Dwr Cwmru who own Llys-y-Fran reservoir are opening a camp site. For us, a serviced pitch (and I'm not even sure if that includes a grey water drain'), with an awning and a dog, the cost in the summer works out at £66 a night!!

I don't get all this talk of being exploited or being overcharged? How is this possible?
The club sets it's prices but you are the one that is paying, you are the one that decided to book then turn up on a club site and pay. Why are people paying (and if you're not paying then you're not being overcharged) if they feel it's exploitation or over charging? Surely, as we're often told, there will be a better and cheaper site nearby?
I saw two petrol stations quite nearby today one Tesco at £1.37 and another literally almost over the road but equally accessible, Shell at £1.44. Now what would be the point of choosing Shell then posting on the 'Shell forum' that it is overcharging? The same principle applies for club and non club sites doesn't it?
In my view club sites prices are still middle of the road.

Thread-‘CAMC site fees’. So anywhere else is irrelevant🤷🏻♂️. Why the need to take any & every ‘UK sites & touring’ thread to ‘overseas sites & touring’🤷🏻♂️

I would say they are much more relevant. If you own an RV and are attending an event, exhibition, concert etc for 1 / 3 days, hotels are clearly an option. London for instance, Abbey Wood is a very reasonable £38.30 currently, rising to £48 / £49 as we move into school holidays. It would cost an extra £28 in fuel over using our car, so 3 nights with easy access to central London, for £140 to £175 in July / August. A bargain I would suggest. Other examples are available.

That is very true-if you could point out where in this thread I’ve posted re Hotels I’d be happy to apologise👍🏻

I think it's easy to overlook the fact that many older/long term enthusiasts (and I include ourselves in that until relatively recently) have graduated from basic "camping" (either tent or very basic vans) to today's "all singing, all dancing" expensive outfits. One only has to look at the recent thread reminiscing about gas mantles and water foot pumps to realise that.
Whereas many younger newcomers to the pursuit have been brought up on no expense spared overseas or home holidays. My neighbour is a typical example of that (wouldn't dream of using the toilet or shower in their van).
So they may not need those facilities but they may well want/ expect them and are happy to pay for them whether on what some consider "basic" club site or "better" commercial ones.

Comparison is not the issue on this forum really is it. The issue is keeping posts within the community guidelines which means in this instance keeping a thread about club site prices which is in the UK touring section just that, in the UK.
If you take a look at the "useful info" just a bit under "my profile" there's the community guidelines and terms and conditions. As you like to compare stuff, compare what's written there with the posts that are appearing here.

I think the watchword is ‘fairly’, I never compare a Lamborghini with my truck re towing capabilities as it’s not a fair comparison. As soon as this & other basic rules are mastered life will stop being so confrontational & make for a more respectful environment. It is the weekend & this is a problematic time historically. I think it would be nice for CAMC management staff to return tomorrow & not have to shut threads down.

+1 to JK and Rocky.

The answer is to vote with your feet. We used to book up to six weeks per year on Club sites, some years we did four weeks (2 weeks April and 2 weeks September) at Tewkesbury but due to the clubs rising prices we now do about 7 days on club sites and the rest on private. We ended up joining the CaCC whose price's are cheaper with added discounts. It's a shame as we liked Tewkesbury but £40 per night when it's not school hols is a tad expensive in our opinion.

I am not sure what some mean by basic sites. To me a basic site is one with fresh water and loo disposal. Anything more and those are added facilities. So even thiose Club sites with no loo blocks are not basic because they have hard standings, mostly, and ehu.

Absolutely. Those posts state sensible views on posting here as the thread (and others) seems to have become no more than repetitive schoolyard type comments criticising CAMC.

" ...BM is £39 pn as opposed to BW’s £56... "
WTG - You could have got an even better deal at Bury View, in open countryside and an easy drive to the Park & Ride for Bath. A nice small site with very friendly owners. 👍

Moulesy - Whilst I normally like your recommendations of campsites, I'm afraid this is not one of your better ones. Situated right at the side of a busy A road will not give you a relaxing stay. Definitely a site I would gladly give a miss.
The website is also very poor and the lack of site photos is to me always a red flag. Even Facebook doesn't show many photos.

Well it's not the sort of site you'd want to sit around on all day, admittedly , Mikey. The road is busy in the morning and afternoon commute times but not during the day. But, as I said, it offers an alternative ("better vfm"?) to Bath Marina (and certainly to Chew Valley) as a base for visiting Bath, has good clean facilities (at least when we stayed there) and there's a decent pub within safe walking distance.
Have you actually stayed there?

I reiterate-see T&C’s. They are a fount of knowledge👍🏻

M, If I wanted facilities, I wouldn't expect to find them on a campsite. I would be looking for something more upmarket than a campsite.

"They seem to be there to control the narrative; especially any comment that may be read as a criticism of CAMC, ... "
An interesting comment - as a (now) neutral observer, all I seem to be reading lately is criticism of CAMC, so it's a pretty ineffectual "control of the narrative"!

Exactly, as was posted on how to post on CT a few weeks ago:
Criticism and constructive feedback towards the Club is tolerated, but there is a line between criticisms and complaints. As mentioned in the Community Guidelines "Do not misuse the channels for complaint - if you have a complaint please contact the relevant department directly."
Unfriendly nature towards the Club in this regard pertains to Club staff, we have seen various comments made around site staff, head office staff and moderation as well as questioning moderation as of late in a tone that we don't feel appropriate for a forum that looks to be positive, respectful and polite.
We ask that the same approach is taken when debating with others on the forum, we by no means are looking to censor disagreement or debate, but we have had a significant increase in the level of reported posts over the past few weeks from users making complaints about the manner in which other's have said things to them on the forum

I’m sure the OP is finding all this very helpful………..🥱
