What are you all up to

We intend continuing with our touring for a while yet, health permitting, but of course there will come a time when we will have to find alternative ways to enjoy our retirement.
We too had to visit the dentist today, but it was just to be seen by the hygienist, although it took up most of the morning as she was exceedingly thorough. Then it was finishing up loading the caravan, between showers. Have had a heavy rainfall this evening so hopefully that will have cleared the air and it will be dry again in the morning.
Good to read that Margaret is being given the blood sugar sensor, DK, that should result in an improvement in her well being.
Interesting to read that you and OH are back working on the caravan, tda, it will be fine combination to see when you get it out behind classic car.
R&R, glad to hear that you are having a relaxing time at Malton. Just what the doctor ordered for Rod I imagine. Hope that she is suffering less pain and managing ok in the caravan.

WN, have you given anymore thought to a camper van? I know at one point you were interested, could that be a way for the future. A lot less faff setting up and touring is a doddle (you could stop for 40 winks anytime you want 😉)
We are not giving up just coming down to 1 leisure vehicle instead of 2. Will miss certain aspects of going away with the caravan but the way we your now and the places we would like to go the MH is vehicle of choice.
Dentist for me tomorrow, it's an NHS one at that. I've put my name on their waiting list before going away in April. Got a phone call 10 days ago offering me an appointment if I still wanted to join their practice. Will see how I get on tomorrow but if I like the place I think I will give up the Denplan as its getting far to expensive at £33 a month. I've had no treatment other than inspection and hygienist for over 12 years. When I worked out the private cost for that I'm paying £110 a year more than going private. I know the Denplan would cover some treatments but I haven't needed any for so long I feel I'm just wasting money. See what tomorrow brings.
The 3 windows that were faulty have been changed today, terrible weather for it but the guys worked through it and all fitted correctly this time. They discovered so many faults with the original fitting it was disgraceful. I asked if they will report that back to the company. I will certainly be writing to them.
I don't think I would like a robot cutting the grass (OH might) I actually enjoy walking up and down and seeing the difference, strimming I could do without. Hope we get some dry days soon I've now caught up with indoor jobs and want to get back out in the garden again.

It's not very nice. Margaret has to do it a minimum of four times a day and more often if she feels her blood sugar level is on the low side. The sensor does have a needle in it but once fitted it lasts two weeks. At least you can alternate between arms! The system has an alarm on your phone which can be a bit disconcerting, especially in the middle of the night! It's a bit big brother but the phone also sends data, via the App, to the surgery so the diabetic nurse can monitor things directly.

Hope it goes well for Margaret, there have been some good advances especially for people who have long term conditions.
Nellie, enjoy your next travels, I had a giggle about Lichtenstein I thought you were off abroad.

I think you'll enjoy sorting out your old van, nice to have the choice.
Some help in our garden today it's very humid and tropical, the plants in the shadier spots are taking on a jungle like appearance! We have lots of soft fruit too which seems to have coped without rain. We might get a thunderstorm later but that might be too much to hope for!?⛈️☔️ (need to do a rain dance...😊)
PS looks like my ideas of sitting back and watching a robot have gone into the long grass!

Funnily enough we have indeed been talking about it. We were thinking about small trips that would be handy, like 4-5 days away. Also be easier to get to both my brothers, one on the South Coast and one in Brittany. At the moment we are still in the "let's see how we get on stage". My arm is a lot better than it was but my hand is taking an age to improve. Not been able to cycle at all since October. Frustrating is the word. However OH is doing a few extra things like putting on the wheel clamp which needs 2 good hands.
If it becomes too much of a faff we'll probably end up with a PVC, much like yourselves but this year was/is about finding out how well we cope. Dialysis is looming on the horizon which, depending on timescale, may well force a decision anyway.

I think you might well have been the last person to see it in use on a CL Nellie, that time we were both up on NY moors at Lockton? We did use it a few more times, primarily when we were going to Jeep off road events. We have got most of the new fittings we need (new fire, water heater), and half of the paint for the outside. Not going to fit an oven, have decided a small microwave will be our best option, and will give restoring the Thetford 2 burner top and grill a go, otherwise buy new. Shower works fine, but the taps are those tiny little ones you used to get, so will replace these. It already has a new shower base fitted. I fancy new work tops, but not sure how easy it will be to trim the edges neatly🤔 Probably put linoleum down rather than carets, but have some fitted removable carpets made. Just mulling over ideas😁

To all those thinking about a change of life style, I say always think positive and do what you think is best for you and your family.
My wife was flown home from Spain December 2022 having had a severe stroke that left her totally paralyzed down her left side, for us to continue caravaning seemed out of the question, here we are 6 months on having spent 6 weeks away in the caravan with more planned and even planning going over there next year.
Through sheer determination and a lot of support my OH is now 95 pct back to normal, only her balance is an issue, but in the caravan it is brilliant, due to the confined space she always has something to support her.
I think i have quoted this on this forum before
"Yestereday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift, that is why we call it the present"

A wet, damp, misty day, in other words a normal lakes day. Just two today from Grasmere again, Silver How and Blea Rigg. I'd post more pictures but really these were the best. The first is the summit of Silver How and view of Grasmere. It was still an excellent day though.

I bit the bullet today and washed the motorhome. The roof was filthy and it had already had one wash this year! Whilst I had the hose out I also decided to give the new car a wash as well. Probably going to suffer tomorrow!

I remember that meet up, tda, been a few years since then! Hope you manage to get all the bits sorted for the caravan.
A dampish start to the day but managed to all packed in and away in the dry. The low clouds that are shown on Corners photos were all over the Lakes and we ran through them on the road up the coast, and then just when we got to the CL, another new one for us, it started to rain, so I got rather damp setting up. The rain did stop for a while after lunch but came down again as we were walking past the town's Roman Fort.. Thankfully it has cleared up now and it has been a pleasant evening.

Thanks for that K, never thought about using wooden tops! Might work very well with some of decor ideas we have. If not, good to know about the edging strip.
Bit frustrating really in terms of tow vehicle, it’s a big (really big) Jeep Wrangler, well capable of physically towing around 3.5 tons, but there’s an anomaly with the emissions that puts a lower limit on what it’s allowed to tow. We need to do some investigating. It will easily tow the van, it’s just what can we put in it, rather than in the car. We keep boot space free for pooch, still got large back seats area to use for carrying plenty of stuff. We probably won’t bother with an awning, might look at a roll out bagged canopy if required. I think we shall possibly look at a motor mover as well (first time ever), all depends on how we use it, it might not be coming home that often if we can get some seasonal pitches. Early days yet.

Gosh that's good David, it's nice to have some spare!
Fresher morning here but second month without any significant rain, apparently there was one rainfall when we were away so some of the plants have picked up and look less stressed. Flower borders have done well in all the sunshine.

That's good to hear David. I keep 'threatening' to take ours to the weighbridge - but even though we have got 365kg to play with - I fear that motor-mover, E&P and Omnistor will have eaten into that - to say nothing of Ros's clothes (enough for 3 weeks on a week's holiday!), fridge and freezer absolutely rammed and all the other accumulated 'junk'. I really must get round to it
Brue - if you want some rain - I'll send you some from North Yorkshire. Scorching hot here most of the time, but we've had some spectacular thunderstorms for the last two or three days and it absolutely lashed it down last night. Still, it's nice to know that the new Veduta is absolutely watertight.

A fantastic day that easily cancels out a thousand rainy days. Warm and sunny, at least where we were. A round starting at Troutbeck up to the top of Garburn pass then Yoke, Ill Bell, Froswick then Troutbeck Tongue and back. Just amazing.

...we were pleased.... especially as we have motormovers (4 units with a twin axle), and the 5 metre Thule windout fitted. Two gas bottles (one full small and a half full Safefill). All our stuff was in the van exept the stuff we usually carry in the car. Clothes were not in, nor food. However we don't usuall carry food..... we but it when we get there and eat most of it before we leave...
We do carry outside stuff in the car e.g. ourside chairs, cadac, water & waste stuff, so wecmight have a little flexibility to move the water & waste stuff into the van.... we'll see!

The CL we are stopping on is part of an old estate and this Tower is all that remains of the Big House. It was much nicer this morning than yesterday and we had a couple of dry walks up the coast where we visited a Roman Milefort and OH found a couple new companions!! The notice on the seat says ",Look at that view" so I have provided that too.
Does anyone know where we are?2 -
Great photos Nellie.
Well back home yesterday all washing done just got to clean van inside the rest will wait as we had some rain overnight and may get some more today and tomorrow, very cloudy at present and only 20.4C a bit chilly after a very warm week and enjoyed a different area of the Lot that we have not been to before and would go again, was very quiet this week and a few brits on site, owners said the site will get busier from this weekend as they have extended the site and new mobile homes plus a few pitches with their own facilities on and few with a garden bench with overhead cover on very nice just will be better once hedging has grown as it is in full sun all day, facilities very clean although not all open but when busy the top block will be open as well did not use the restaurant as not open all the time until next month, the pitches were a bit on the small size due to trees and shrubs marking the pitch area just glad we had a mover and OH had drive onto a empty pitch opposite us just to get off the pitch as the site road was quite narrow a few motorhomes had a few problems getting onto the pitches, the shrubs around the site were out in flower very pretty and plenty of bird life and butterflies.

Lovely, lovely afternoon yesterday for us with friends, loads to catch up on. I took a car full of plants, and came home with a car full of plants🤣 OH finally met their new dog, both pooches got on really well.
Back to Mum’s this morning, back home and packing MH for next week.

That will be the Solway Firth, looking towards Galloway? Near Maryport maybe?
Yes, Kjell, it is looking across the Solway towards Criffel, not from Maryport though but from Silloth, 12mls up the coast.
I'm interested to find out and the name of the CL you are using it sounds the type of place we like.
TG, we are staying on Netherhall, here is the link.

We are in fact on H/S in the stable yard, as all the grass pitches were booked up for the weekend. No views but as it is only £11 pn with EHU we are not complaining. It is just off the main road but we don't notice any traffic noise to speak of, and the ladies that run the site are very friendly and informative.

It has been a pretty awful day weather wise. So far we have had 3 wet walks out of 4 and it looks as if the last one will be under a brolly again. We got wet walking a little of the coastal path that this morning at Glasson before heading to the New Balance factory shop at Flimby, where OH picked up a couple of bargains. Having dried out in the car we then we got caught out again around the harbours at Maryport after lunch and I had to use the brolly once more during my pre diner walk. Hope that it is better tomorrow. Wonder how Corners got on today in the Lakes as it looked rather wet over there.

It’s been quite cool here today Nellie, tiny bit of drizzle this morning, but nothing more. Still t shirt weather, tomorrow and Sunday windy, staying cool during the week, then warming up next weekend. Hope it stays dry for OH to get some cycling in round Grantham.
