Calor Gas

Apologies if this has been answered before.

We use very little gas and I have two 3.5kg propane for the caravan which are no longer being supplied by Calor.  One of those cylinders has just run out and, having enquired of the Warden at the site we’re on, can only exchange like for like.  She says I will need to speak to Calor about what to do but it seems like a new contract for a 6kg cylinder.

Any thoughts/comments appreciated.

As long as Calor have the small bottles they will do an exchange but they are in very short supply with Calor's ultimate aim being to discontinue them. Their website says you can swap within the same exchange group amd 3.5 and 6kg are in the same group.

Thanks TW.  Can this be done on site as the Warden here clearly didn’t know this, or do I need to go to a Calor stockist?

I suspect you’d need to visit a Calor depot but I know no more than I posted above🤷🏻‍♂️

Mbee, we recently swopped a 3.5 for a 6kg bottle, no extra cost for size swop other than paying for the gas inside. This was at a Calor centre, no idea what Club Sites would do, but I wouldn’t have thought they would want the smaller sizes nowadays. We are lucky, we can get 2x 6kg cylinders into our gas locker instead of smaller sizes. We don’t use a huge amount of gas anyway, but like the freedom if we go off grid.

    Morning

Of the club sites that still sell gas many use a third party vendor which always stipulate a like for like when exchanging bottles.

Yes, one warden even gave me the address of his supplier, went to see them, a Calor franchised supplier just up the road, who told me I would have to deal with Calor direct. Best of luck with that! Also try finally returning a bottle to them when no longer needed. Even with that initially provided purchase certificate I failed to get my money back.

Calor will swap out the 3.5kg for 6kg. Problem is 6kg are hard to get at the rrp of £28 or very expensive. I was quoted £40.

if you want to continue to use the 3.5kg flogas do this and the 4.5kg butane. Get an empty 3.5kg that flogas accept to avoid the deposit charge. I think flogas also don’t accept new contracts at this time and only swap like for like.  They have a long list of branded bottles that they take.

if you change your pigtail you can use butane the 7kg is easier to find. If you are near Kinross I have a nearly full one to sell!

I notice in the June quick chat survey the Club is asking about gas usage. Quite why they want to gather information about current and future intentions regarding gas use, your guess is as good as mine.

My understanding, from the manufacturer of my campervan is that Calor are to continue the availability of the 3.9 kg for a further 9 months. Many, I suspect like myself, have purchased new camper-vans which would normally accept 3.9kg bottles. At present I’m desperately searching for a used Flogas 3.9kg so I can enter the ‘chain’. Flogas suppliers will only swap like for like.

How big is the locker in reality?...could you squeeze in a 6kg? Or perhaps a 2.7kg refillable or even two of these?...or even an underslung refillable tank?

there are many other ways to obtain and carry gas with you...good luck

While on the subject of refillables....the Exmouth Marquis dealer (formerly Alan Kerr?) sells autogas....so many of his customers (autosleepers) have underslung tanks, they have a bit of a captive market.

I'm informed they also happily refill Safefill bottles.

I guess you mean Marquis, Exeter which was formerly Martins. I think Alan Kerr is still in Paignton. 🤷🏻‍♂️
