Edinburgh Club Site best route from west on M8

Just checking out the best route into the Edinburgh Club site coming from Glasgow on M8. The clubs route planner and Google both recommend using Lauriston Farm Road about a mile before the site, but this has a 10 meter length restriction at the entrence to the road. Our car and van are well over 12m. All other routes look problematic. Do people use this route ignoring the restriction. Tried ringing the site but either engaged or answer phone. Any guidance appreciated.

    The club's route planner is not to be relied upon as it is just a commercial route planner, like Google, and not designed specifically for caravans. Follow CAMC's specific directions given on the site's webpage (see link- click "view on map") and in the handbook.

     Thanks for that Tinwheeler. Not used to checking routes with the club. Looks like a semi grand tour of NW Edinburgh then. Thanks again.

    The route from the Gogar roundabout is quite complicated but it does work! Not a bad idea to have a look at it on Google Maps before you go so you can get a feel for it.

    Having been to that site another+1 for following the club's directions, it is a roundabout way but with a caravan, or even a large MH, it is essential to follow them. Of course once unhitched you'll find far shorter routes.

    Turn right out of the site for short walk to the beach.

    David I always check routes with either Google or Bing maps. Usefull for finding the correct lane to be in at junctions and roundabouts, such as Gogar roundabout which seems to require being in the second left lane of the four for the city!

    Cornersteady we might try a walk over the causeway to Cramond if that's still possible.

    The walk over to Cramond Island should still be possible at low tide, it is a good number of years since I last did it. As for approaching the site with a 12m+ long outfit…. We have stayed at this site many times approaching from all directions possible by road. Never crossed my mind the roads were ‘tight’ or difficult but then again we go to sites down narrow Cornish lanes, single track roads in the highlands and - gasp - go through the arch at Bolton Abbey.

    Did it in 2014 and it was certainly still possible in 2021, although as the tide was rising we went to look at the remains of the Roman fort instead.
