Weighing Motorhome
We are travelling to France in our Motorhome in June. Do we need to get it weighed before we travel? If we do where can we go to do this? Thank you.

Every town, city will have a public weighbridge. Just Google it for your home town, find out where they are, and see if you can take your MH down. No idea if it costs.

Frequently free if all you want is the weight. If you want an official ticket it's usually around £10 although some will charge you that for each axle and the overall weight.

A lot of scrap merchants have weigh bridges which they will allow to be used for weighing vehicles. Likewise any aggregate dealers do as well although I would be a bit concerned about the latter unless the weight plate was clear of excess aggregate in order to get an accurate reading.

Hi I normally weigh my motorhome just be on the safe side especially if you’re travelling through France . I take mine to the scrap dealer who normally have a weigh bridge . Mine don’t charge me if I don’t want a ticket . But if you want proof get a ticket to show the vosa etc . It normally cost around £20/25 .

Cost seems to vary enormously. Many are about £10 for total weight & receipt. More if you want an axle weight as well. Often payment is in cash only. You can search for public weighbridges by county. We have nothing nearby. Found one we could use near a site we were staying on.

I would more concerned about using the former - scrap yards aren't the tidiest of places and any tiny piece of metal could easily damage a tyre, requiring at least the cost and hassle of a puncture but also the chance of a new tyre.
We don' t have any public weighbridges in our area and I wouldn't dream of asking if I could use the scrap merchants.
Public weighbridges do seem to becoming rarer, on two occasions in the last few years I have seen a sign for one but on enquiring on arrival, I been told they no longer allow the public.

Cornwall Council lists 14 - which might be useful for anyone coming down here.

I have to admit that was very much my own thoughts until I actually visited a well know scrap yard in MK for another reason. I was totally surprised by how neat, clean and tidy it was and I don't think I would have any qualms in taking my motorhome there to be weighed. Obviously can't speak for other yards.
