Can members settle an argument please. In respect of pitch type does a roll out canopy count as an awning.

No, it doesn’t, at least not on a Club Site. (Some CLs might differ). You can book a non awning pitch and roll out your canopy so long as it doesn’t impinge on the fire risk spacing. You might need to roll it back in at night, and if you go out without MH, but the wise would do this anyway to prevent weather damage. Put on a front or sides, and it becomes an awning, and then you need an awning pitch.

I'd not rely on this as a definitive answer. The prime case in point is the non-use of awnings on the front row of pitches at Bunree. We've been there a few times when caravans and motorhomes have occupied some of these pitches. They rolled out their canopies then put up quite large sunscreens (ostensibly to keep their dogs in)  The result is an area usually bigger than a basic awning and, of course, they block the glorious views across the loch. I'd check first with site managers before making any assumptions whether these combinations make up an awning or not.

You are right Tom. No awning of any kind on the front row of Bunree, and I think White House Beach is the same. There might be other oddities as well, we use Club Sites so little. No harm in checking with Site Managers as you say👍

No awnings at all at Old Hartley and windbreaks aren't in favour either. Best to check as you suggest.
