I wouldn’t have any issue with setting up a smart meter account. I much prefer the idea of loading credit onto the account, rather than the third party or club just helping themselves at the end of my stay. What I wouldn’t be happy with is signing up to the scheme without being told the unit cost.

The unit cost plus "allowance" which includes charges and "install" sic CAMC.

I think if they want a fair "trial" everything should be absolutely clear for the user taking part.

Not the metered cost but they can recover the capital and maintenance cost of the installation over its life. Perhaps that is what is meant by a small allowance?

But not by adding it to the metered cost. See my post on the previous page.

It's my understanding that installation/mtce costs can be recovered as per Other Costs and Example 1 which boils down to including them in pitch fees in my book.

Probably the reason the club can’t answer the question of cost ,is , they simply don’t know !!

TobyLeeds, our booking for Wyatts Covert , end of  May / early June is also for 2 adults.
Price reduction average £2.83 / night.
And if Man City do get to the FA Cup final, the price of electricity at Denham will fade into insignificance compared with the price of tickets for the game. ⚽️⚽️⚽️
    Enjoy Denham. 🙂🙂🙂r

Open a ‘GoFundMe’(crowdfunding) page P, they are there for times of need & support, I’ll pledge a £5👍🏻. Your other alternative is remortgage. Good luck😊

so the club estimate that you would use more electricity per day in May than I will use in July! Which long range weather forecast are they going with?
what will the January discount be????

    In these times ….

It is very long overdue for the crazy CMC ‘unlimited 16Amp Electric’ supply situation to just end for Commercial & Environmental reasons. It merely encourages wastage and over consumption.

I have no issue in paying for all the Electric I choose to use in addition to my Pitch fee - it just seems a very sensible & fair for all arrangement.

I wonder if holiday cottages and static caravan sites will move to metered units ? ,

We last used a metered cottage around 2016. We knew before hand it operated this method, and found it no issue at all. Next time we stayed, it had been changed, and the meter was out. Middle of Dartmoor, down a lane even our tiny MH couldn’t reach, but perfect with a Jeep. It’s our go to escape when we get the chance. Log burning stove, free logs, all recycled from fallen trees. 😁

Maybe they don’t know the price because it’s being supplied by “our trusted Smart Meter partner” and that’s the reason you have to sign up with them?

My sister and BIL have a share in a holiday house which supports a steam railway company, it's used year round by the supporters and it's metered with coins. They don't have a say in which week/2weeks they get and if they get a winter week they need a lot of coins! The system being trialled by CAMC should be a lot easier to use but some will probably still get a shock at the costs.

I previously mentioned a caravan  site in Devon which is using meters on it's "super" pitches I would imagine there are more considering the idea.

We've booked a holiday cottage where we only get the first night of logs free. But it does have a new to us eco heating system. I suppose we'll all be adapting to new energy usage and costs.

Are coin meters still a thing🤷🏻‍♂️😱. I can see the whole nostalgia thing for folk that hark back to a bygone age but it’s a serious faff. If I have to pay by folding money I leave the jangly bits on the counter suggesting they dispose of it at their own discretion.

Not so much coin meters Rocky, but many households have pre payment meters installed, where they top up a card that goes into the meter. So they have to make sure there’s credit on the card. Hugely controversial, they tend to be in rental accommodation, and the tariff is usually higher than a non pre payment option. It’s a different world for the folks that live a lot closer to the poverty threshold than anyone likely to be a Club Member. This is shall I cook a meal, or shall I keep warm territory☹️ The theory is that if you prepay your usage, you won’t run up a big debt as might happen if folks don’t pay a monthly bill. So it’s pay up, or the lights go out and the gas goes off.

Someone must know the kWh price!     Why should it be so secret?

How many of us would buy something without knowing the price first?

Yes they must know and it will probably be higher than a domestic tariff so users beware!

TDA, I was generalising re coin meters not specifying & certainly not about folk hardest hit during this shocking time for many. I watch the news & I’ve seen how BG & others have been treating & exploiting the poorest of our country. I am not someone who exploits others suffering to make a point. I was following on from Brue’s coin meter example plus agreeing with her re their usage in nostalgic environs.

On the link to the metering info, it does say it will be more than at home, so over 35p.

We are looking at some CLs, many of them will also have commercial tariffs, and have found a few metered ones.  So far we have seen 2 quoting prices per kWh, one was 37p and one was 76p, but 10kWh included in site fee, so a wide range.

The 37p one said that was their present price and that if your booking was far ahead they would keep you updated on prices.

Some CLs have not increased their pitch price since last year, we booked one today, we have used it several times, which includes EHU, price confirmed on our phone call.   Hopefully will not be a shock when we arrive!

I read some comments from a CL owner today in response to comments about metering on his CL. He quoted the KWH costs etc and how expensive it had become to run  the CL. Apparently someone racked up a £22.80 bill in 24 hours!! I can't imagine the costs on CAMC sites at present, I hope something can be done to keep overall site costs down.

I once confirmed the price on the phone with a CL owner. When I arrived he wanted more and denied that he had said the price that he told me.

Moral is get it in writing

I suspect when it's rolled out they will use the averages applicable to each individual site rather than that of the two test sites.   The cost of electric will also need to be localised as this also differs across the UK.  My guess is that the trial is to test the technology rather than users consumption.

Personally Id rather they just increase he site fees, somewhere between £60-£90 per night seems reasonable for two adults.

At £60-£90 per night I think you will see a mass exodus of membership, it would certainly to expensive for us.

We have booked Lady Margret's in Chirk, mid season for 3 days hardstanding with electric,£114.50, we could have booked Love2Stay a private expensive site with super full service and extensive on site facilities for £120.
