PMS sensor

Our new 71 plate Fiat/Swift panel van has a faulty PMS sensor. Only done 2000 miles, still under warranty and we're waiting for the part to repair the problem.

Has anyone got the same problem/had the same problem. How long is the wait time for the part?

Very frustrating. Had to cancel two short breaks already and there doesn't seem to be the option of a 'courtesy' leisure vehicle whilst we wait.

Anyone any encouraging comments.

Like [Deleted User User] I've no idea what a PMS is .... TPMS perhaps? Though I doubt a TPMS would keep a vehicle off the road ... 🤔

I like to keep em guessing, Rocky, but there’s a lot of experience in my background👍🏻

PS. None of it came from that grossly misnamed forum😂

    Hi All

We had a good laugh about some of your comments. If we didn't laugh we'd cry.

When we first googled it we got TPMS which is tyre pressure monitoring system. It's more serious than that.

Our 'in-the-know' son-in-law says it's the Power Management System. The problem with this is if it breaks down completely the engine goes into limp mode. We enquired at our local service garage and they said they cost £500. So we have to wait and wait and wait.

Hi, could i ask is the base vehicle 2.3  Ducato type X290 is the engine warning light illuminated did you get a diagnostic print out with fault codes.

If PMS means particulate matter sensor in your case, you will probably have check engine warning when switching on and an yellow/orange warning light permanently showing.

My 21 plate Ducato base pvc has had a PMS warranty replacement on order for the last month. It had done fewer than 2000 miles when the error first showed up but it's done another 1500 since with a permanently illuminated engine warning light and no other problem.

Hi all, the dealer should have provided a diagnostic print out of the fault codes extracted from the vehicle some are permanent and cant be erased till the fault is fixed, other codes which illuminate your dash are some times caused by a temporarily or intermittent glitches can be erased i have Peugeot Diagbox and Fiat multiecuscan software the initial outlay  paid for itself educated and fixed faults which were on the vehicle when bought from new it is not always component failure which illuminates warning lights the only sure way is  the diagnostic evidence, the repairing dealer should explain this but in my case this did not happen but i never intended relying on the warranty which is a shame, hope this helps some.

Yes, Pete, to the warning light. We were on our way back from Cornwall but managed to get home safely.

The motor had to go back to the dealers anyway because the step wasn't retracting properly and had to be immobilised.

They have had it at the dealers since.  Unfortunately they are over an hour away from where we live or we might have risked local area breaks.

No, Chris and Malc, we didn't get a diagnostic print out. The travel distance has meant we have to rely on phone calls. Even then we only get to speak to an intermediary, never the actual service engineer.

It's causing a lot of frustration as you can imagine.

Anyway thanks for your input, much appreciated.

Hi, in my case i established early on that the dealer for my new motorhome did not have the facility or knowledge to diagnose the base vehicle diagnostics and was not interested and advised to take it to the Peugeot main dealer, if you are like myself and keeping the vehicle it is most beneficial to look at and become familiar with Fiat Multiecuscan even if you want repairs done under warranty or at a later date you will be better informed and in lots of cases the only way to clear faults and extinguish most warning lights is with Multiecuscan. Warning triangle with perhaps check stop lights EXAMPLE will clear itself as that is on a different bus or circuit i got up and running for under £100.00 i'm your man for Fiat Multiecuscan

Hi, did you manage to get this part from Fiat? We took our van to Fiat for it's first MOT, on picking it up the engine warning light was on, they diagnosed the fault as a DPF pressure sensor. We have now been waiting since Dec 22 for a DPF sensor, which I feel could be a different term for the same part as yours.

Does anyone know if there is a work around or alternative part? I have taken my van to a couple of independent garages who seem unable to help.

    Many thanks

    Paul

I think that you will find that many garages fit a spacing washer between the exhaust and the sensor to reduce its sensitivity. I’m not commenting on the rights and wrongs because I see it as a ‘get you out of a fix’ solution.

My apology, Buglies, I’m having a confused day. I muddled two of our vans. The first needed an EGR valve - the failure of which sends you into limp mode. The second (2020) van needed a new PMS sensor - failure of that normally means your emissions are high but you can usually carry on driving for several miles. The stop/start system is automatically disabled when a fault occurs.

Buglies, my earlier post has been removed because I quoted yours which showed your telephone number.

The crux of my post was to say it’s a common problem and we only managed 30 miles from the dealership when we collected our new 2020 Ducato before this fault occurred. The outcome was that a new sensor was fitted under warranty by the local Fiat Professional garage. At 7000 miles it doesn’t surprise me that you’ve had the same issue but I guess you’re out of warranty which is hard luck.
