Can anyone recommend an easily accessible caravan site near to Tours please ? We re approaching from the south on the A10 and want to spend a few days there before heading towards Cherbourg.

Thank you

We used a nice municipal at Les Ormes: https://www.tourisme-vienne.com/fr/camping/22/ormes-les/camping-intercommunal-les-ormes but it may be a bit far south for you. It's near Chatellerault which is a nice town. The site is on a riverbank and was very quiet when we were there a few years ago.

20 miles east you will find Le Moulin Fort at Francueil. https://lemoulinfort.com/

We first visited in 2013? and it has been a favourite ever since. It is a C&MC site along with ACSI. Recently taken over by the family who ran the local routier  it now has an excellent restaurant. We stay because of the riverside location, 4 mile cycle ride in either direction along river Blere and Montrichard. Chenonceaux Chateau is virtually in view from the riverbank, the lovely town of Amboise and final home of Leonardo Da Vinci is 8 miles away etc.

Pitches are level and good in size, lots of trees, site favoured by those without teenagers so relaxed and quiet, electric is only 6 amp and shower blocks could do with a refurb but still of a good standard.

If you are coming down the A 10, you wont want to drag through Tours. My recommendation would be the very nice little site at Vouvray, on the river east of Tours,an easy access from the A10 and with a good bus service that will take you in toTours without the need to drive. Its also on the best side of Tours if you want to visit the Loire chateaux. Vouvray also makes the best desert wines on the Loire!

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I have noted all the sites for any future visits. I was considering the  campsite LA MIGNARDIÈRE in Ballan-Miré  but I admit the campsite at Vouvray looks lovely and is a serious contender ! We are  thinking of a 3/4 day stopover to take in local sites of interest, as well as visiting Tours.

Any further suggestions are still welcome.

Try Montbazon- quiet site, shower block recently refurbished, though it’s still in the old outside walls, fuel and supermarket over the road, an easy walk into town for early morning bread, if out of season. Also good dog walking and very easy access going either north or south.

    You didn’t mention your dates.

La Mignardiere closes for the winter on 15 September 2023.
