I had a Maxi and towed a large horse in a cattle trailer to various horse shows.  It was a really good car, which I had for a number of years, very reliable and I never had any problems with the gear box or body work at all.  As with most models of car, some have good bodywork and some don't.

My word, memories!  We started in 1973  with a Mk1 1600cc Cortina towing a Sprite Alpine, then an Alpha Sud (souvenir of an overseas postingcool!) towing a Sprite 400, this unusual combination was ok  getting us to S of France etc.  Next we had a Piper 1400 caravan and towed this with a 1600cc Cortina estate and then a Sierra Diesel.  A gap in caravanning when offshore sailing took up much of my time and money!  Next a Fleetwood Colchester 2 berth which we towed with a  Citroen Picasso 2 ltr diesel (we were converts to diesel towing cars now). We were then living in the S of France and this combination took us all over southern Europe and Germany without any problems (except a seized  bearing on the caravan when we were in the Alps another story!).  On return to the UK we got our existing caravan, a 2009 Bailey Ranger Series 6 GT60 520/4 (in the pic) and have towed it with a Passat and 2 x Tiguans all 2 ltr Diesel; we found the Passat to be a little soft in the rear suspension but the Tigs proved to be both excellent towcars taking us trouble free all over Europe.

ThIs has made me think back....

    Our vans/units:

Various small tents/ then frame tents/ then with a small trailer.....

    Conway Campa Trailer Tent

    ABI Marauder 4.5CL

Abbey Cachet (a dealer special, based on somethIng else!!  Bought from Kirton Caravans at a show)

Bailey Pageant Vendee (a caravan we had stolen - in some respect, they may have done us a favour taking it.  It was a 'backeards caravan, with the fixed bed at the front and the main seating at the back of1 the caravan.  The bed was quite enclosed and claustrophobic.)!

    Bailey Pageant Sancerre

    Bailey Unicorn Valencia

Bailey Alicanto Grande Evora (our next van due in June/July)
