Hmm think I've just lost my post can't remember what I said but I thought it was a good idea to visit the optician with the glasses DK.
We decided to change our day out plans and headed for a freezing cold walk round Stourhead. A few hardy walkers were out tackling the more strenuous walks but we did the park walk, some of the water was frozen. It was nice to see more water fowl out, undisturbed by lots of visitors at this time of the year. Good to get out and just frosty with no snow. The Grotto was open but repairs ongoing.

Specsavers removed the lens from my glasses after my cataract op David. No charge. It is fairly standard practice.

Isn't it funny when one lens has dropped out and you put your glasses and you can't figure out what's wrong, or it that just me?

Very cold here today -3 all day, even colder overnight. Same forecast for tonight then it should get a bit warmer towards the weekend.
Nothing interesting today just housework for me and the Men's shed this morning for OH. This afternoon saw us in B&Q buying MDF, OH is going to make a couple of radiator shelves for me.
I've been checking out holiday insurance and vehicle breakdown cover from various suppliers. We currently use our Nationwide Flex+ account for both of these, just wanted to make sure its still VFM as I am going to have to add a couple of medical conditions to our cover, which I'm pretty sure are going to increase our payment element. Neither conditions are a problem and no medication is prescribed, just a change of diet but going by what other insurance companies have added onto their basic policy for the conditions, I can't see Nationwide being any different. Its always good to check these things now and again.
Good to hear WN, Margaret and Henry are doing well.

Great photos brue was one of my favourite places to visit at different times of the year.
No chance of going anywhere today just rain most of the day so far 16.3mm and still raining, so a few inside chores mainly sorting the bathroom cupboards and drawers out a few things were out of date and now things looking tidy but a bit more to do, should be drier the weekend hopefully.

HI Nellie
Yes deal done today collect the new car either at the weekend or next week depending on when it’s ready. 2016 Volvo XC60 2.0 D4 with only 30k in the clock looking forward to getting it. It appears to be a very good one with only one owner and a full Volvo history. Happy to stay with Volvo as over the past 5 and a half years our V70 has been excellent towing our van all over the country hassle free we even took it on a 2500 mile solo trip to Spain and France a few years ago and it was great we will be sad to see it go(funny how you get attached to things) but at 13 years old it’s beginning to show its age. We got a decent trade in price so someone will get another couple of years use from it. Tow bar to be fitted to new car then we will be itching to tow so will book a weekend at one of our local haunts for our maiden voyage

Francis, good to read that you have taken the longevity the XC60. That's a very low mileage for a car like that, we have done a few more, less than 8,000 per year, and we don't drive much when we are at home. Hope it lives up to expectation.
WN, glad that you are getting more movement from your hand, hope the improvement continues.
Moulesy, great photos. I'm sure the dogs thoroughly enjoyed the snow, I know ours did.
OH has now gone down with a severe cold (flu?) although her leg isn't quite as painful as it was. We had a severe frost last night but it was fine until early afternoon when we had a few short snow/hail showers and then rain this evening. Have just to hope that it doesn't freeze over night or the roads and pavements will be treacherous come morning.

Oh yes, I remember that well David !!
After my first cataract op I was told to do the same with my specs but taking the lefthand lens out just made the specs tip sideways on the noble nose ! Felt a right Charlie with cock-eyed specs I can assure you Fortunately managed to replace it and hung on till the second op -- then just kept a pair of 'readers' until everything had settled down enough for a proper par of new glasses
One thing I do remember is the return the day after my first op to get the success checked but We did have a growl & grumble 'cos I'd only used one bottle of 'Drops' simply because they had put my Hospital number label over the instructions " Screw the cap down tight to pierce the bottle ". Still the Doc could see, when the seal was pierced, that I did know how to administer three drops into the eye quite well !!

PS The most important job was to purchase a good, dark set of wrap--round sunglasses since it was high summer and the sun was, literally, blinding ! with the low level of the sun in January I wonder if Margaret is finding it a bit bright when the clouds clear !??

Good job we got out yesterday, the skies darkened this morning and we've had quite a lot of snow. Now sunshine with darks skies approaching again. Was hoping to clear am area of garden refuse in builders bags to make room for fencing delivery, not easy now we have a ski run instead of a drive way.
Sorry to hear about your OH Nellie, hope she feels better soon.
Keep warm everyone! ⛷️

I suspect Margaret's operation was a little different from most. It wasn't that her main vision was deteriorating per se but the fact that peripheral vision in her left eye was causing some concern, perhaps because of her diabetes? The good news is that she had her last telephone consultation today and there is no need for her to have the lens removed in her glasses but she does have to wait six weeks before making an eye test appointment. When she left the hospital she was given two bottles of eye drops, we are not convinced they will last the four weeks even at one drop at a time!

We’ve had a good day today. Two old (as in age as well as time known) came round for dinner (lunch). We spent nearly three hours just talking about anything and everything. Including ailments and children and grandchildren of course). An assortment of cheeses, chutneys and crackers. Plus home made fruit and nut malt loaf. Finished off with apple Pie (using our apples).
The most relaxed we’ve felt for ages.

Poor Mrs Nellie, sorry to hear this. Good if her leg is improving a bit though. At least you got home Nellie, it can be awful having to travel when not feeling well. Give her our regards, and get some of that chocolate administered, it should be in every first aid kit👍
I hope others recovering are doing ok as well, and the dedicated nursing staff looking after them. It’s been another day off from caring duties for me today, as we have picked up our new car. All ready, serviced and valeted for us, plenty of petrol in the tank. OH drove it home, a good run on some A roads and then a blast down the A1 to get home, rides and drives very nice he says. I get to find out in the morning, but need to familiarise myself with all gadgets and tech on board. And it’s got something called a clutch🤣 Should be ok, I switch between auto Jeep, classic MG, MH, so just have to remember which one I am in. I do sometimes wash wipe instead of indicating to go round a corner.🫣 Beautiful day, but the low sun heading back South was terrible, had to be very careful at times. Tight squeeze to get it into garage alongside MG and three bikes😱

Glad to hear that Mr Goldie is recuperating well. I hope it continues. I remember when OH had his hip replacement some years ago that the first 3 or 4 weeks were hard work but it soon settled down. Glad you had a nice day with your friends. Glad also to hear that WN is doing well also and has more use in his right hand. Things can only get better! David K, I hope your OH's cataract op has been a success. Sorry to hear that Mrs Nellie isn't well but as TDA said it is good she is home as travelling when unwell is not a lot of fun. Best wishes to her and anyone else who is unwell at the moment. There seems to be such a lot of illness around at the moment. Hope the TDAs have fun in their new car.
Great photos brue and moulesy. Our springer used to absolutely love going sledging with our children when it snowed.
We have had a busy time recently with Gt Grandson's 3rd birthday and also the 13th birthday of 2 of our grandchildren. They are not twins but cousins born 24 hours apart. We call them them the 'cousin twins'. They are great friends. In between all of that I was on tour duty on Saturday morning at the Cathedral. I took a wonderful lady from London round. She is on a mission to visit every English cathedral. She was so interested in everything and we both had a very enjoyable morning and she has since emailed the Tours Manager at the Cathedral to ask him to thank me - how kind of her - I am really chuffed. Down to earth today as I had an appointment at the audiology dept. After I had finally got a parking space which took about 15 minutes , I saw a very nice lady, who after all the tests decided that I don't need hearing aids. Result! I am off out for lunch tomorrow with old colleagues (and also great friends). We couldn't find a date that suited us all in December for a Christmas meal so decided to have it in January instead.
I hope everyone is managing to keep warm in this bitterly cold weather. We have had a very hard frost every morning this week.

Thanks, tda, millie and brue. She is feeling a bit better today ( lots of paras and Lemsips) and had a phone consultation about her leg with one of the practice doctors this evening, having only booked it this morning. The doctor is going to get the surgery to book a face to face appointment as a matter of urgency. It was a good job that we did not extend our trip, as getting back over the last three days would have proved "interesting" !!
Heavy frost overnights on the fallen snow/hail left the pavements, and roads, like skating rinks this morning so taking Flyte for his walk was quite an adventure!! Thankfully it has been a sunny day and with a light breeze so nearly all of the ice has gone.

That’s a mission we are on as well Millie, to visit every Cathedral in the UK, and as many Abbeys as we can as well. They are just so interesting, and amazing pieces of architecture. A time line that is often centuries old. They are so different in how they welcome visitors as well.
You will be pleased to hear we consider Peterborough one of the very best and most welcoming we have ever been to, so all credit to everyone involved there. Worcester on the other hand☹️ I got into a bit of a debate with an over zealous church official who decided that because the Dean was talking to someone next to King John’s tomb, I couldn’t go and take a look at the tomb. Having explained that we had travelled a hundred miles to see the said tomb, and had no interest in the Dean, would it be reasonable to let me have a quick peek. He was just being over protective I think, and he did relent as I was very polite. The Dean merely smiled, said hello and moved out of the way😁 Then there is the “donation”, not compulsory, but you won’t get past a certain point unless your money is shown🤨 We always donate something, unless charged a fee to view.
We included Bury St Edmunds on our last tour. That was the (very) old Abbey, the new (ish) Cathedral, and then the church that has Mary Tudor’s tomb. We were somewhat churched out that day, but very enjoyable, beautiful grounds and gardens.
Great to get such a nice review mention though😁👍

Millie, it's good to think you are appreciated at the cathedral. I loved the little bit of news last night about the gentleman aged 100 who has been recognised for his help with reading at a local school, we need these uplifting snippets.
Waking up to very icy conditions here, looking at fox footprints on the snow past our front windows. Looks treacherous underfoot. I expect many of our local flooded fields are now frozen, not the best weather just now, quite glad to be at home!

Worcester is our very favourite Cathedral TTD, after Wells, good job we are all different. I love to see Prince Arthur’s tomb, to know that Elizabeth I visited it and would have walked/stood where I am makes it special for me. Sorry about the zealous official, sad how that can spoil an experience, we have always been made most welcome there. And it’s donations rather than paying, I have in the past just popped in there to say a prayer without donating. I don’t mind giving a generous donation or paying if it is a reasonable amount but I’m sad that some put people off going inside with such high prices. Their cafe is very good as well.
My most favourite place to offer up a prayer and to sit and reflect peacefully is Hawkshead Church. Right at the back to the right, a quiet little corner, no stained glass window, but a clear glass one that looks over the hills and countryside, a very special place whatever ones beliefs. It always reminds me of the Vicar of Dibley episode where she replaced the broken stained glass window in the church with a clear window.
No snow here, and no frost, but cold. The floods do look bad in your area Brue. A local stream burst its banks here and some folk living near the old Mill have had to move out of their homes for 6 months for repairs to be done, so sad. A walk to the hairdresser for me later, my mane really needs a good cut.

Hope folks are recovering from their different health issues, we are ok and having our flu jab tomorrow, a friend of ours did not catch the cough/cold bug we had but did get a heavy cold from young relative of her OH and was not happy but now feeling better afraid to say she has little patience with illnesses and her OH had to go and feed the donkeys whilst she was ill.
I have enjoyed visiting Worcester and Wells Cathedrals in the past as 1st one my home county and 2nd the county I lived in for 25 years, have done Truro and Liverpool many years ago.
Very cold here with a light dusting of snow on buildings but clear on the grass and more snow forecast for tonight and getting much colder Saturday down to 2C in the day brr.
Yesterday whilst the sun was out managed to cover the plants I got last week as too cold to plant out yet and as we had a lot of rain this week the cover on the pool was full of water but now been transferred to a water butt next to the pool glad we did it as it is much colder today and no sunshine and OH fancy a cold plunge then in the pool you can imagine the answer I gave him ha ha.

We would revisit Worcester Debsc 😁 I didn’t get much of a look around due to that official, but the place is lovely. I was thinking of “donations” generally as well, not singling out Worcester. Wells is stunning, inside and out, as is Lincoln, Durham and York Minster. One of our favourite churches is In Ludlow, still has its original quire with all the fabulous misericords and pew carvings. St Mary’s in Warwick is another as well worth a few hours looking around.
First drive properly this morning in new car. Strange using a clutch again, as I tend to drive Auto Jeep mainly. No kangaroo petrol though🤣

What a difference 48 hours makes! After the snow on Tuesday we have beautiful blue skies today, although with a cold wind out of sheltered spots. Two views from St Agnes Beacon and one down at Trevaunance Cove.
And isn't that the joy of life in this country - "no such thing as bad weather" etc etc!

Well done Millie. I agree with Ttda that Peterborough cathedral worth the visit.
We have a few favourites but tend to prefer the humbler churches. The cathedrals at Durham, Worcester, Ripon and both of them in Liverpool are favourites but the church that had the greatest affect on us was the one next to the Abbey at Jarrow, part of it still the original dating back to when Adam was a lad. Wonderful day trip for anyone interested as there is a centre just opposite the church grounds that has a super exhibition explaining the history of it all.
Had a good fall of snow to cope with these last couple of days but have managed well once out of the village skating rink.
Thought Mrs.Nellie might get a quick appointment, NTH, as they'll be concerned about blood clots. Give her our best.

I'll put in my cathedral "oar" and say St Magnus in Kirkwall, Orkney and St David's in Pembrokeshire are small but perfectly formed, St David's is certainly a very ancient place. Both places have Viking connections. Plenty to keep history buffs going with all these lovely old buildings.
We staggered out separately on the ice and snow today, hoping the sun will melt more tomorrow. Good to see St Agnes in the sun Moulesy and a blue sea.

It’s all very well sleeping in - alarm off as Henry is not getting up at 5 am to milk - but I find the day very short! In normal times I aim to get dinner either in the oven or prepped by 9, but now we’re just about having breakfast. Then catch up on paperwork and accounts etc, so by 2 or 3 the time’s my own. Maybe this is just preparing me for real retirement. I retired from paid employment 12 years ago, but farm management has increased to fill the gap.
Yesterday meeting friends. Today our accountant came to discuss taxation. Different days, but equally satisfactory.

The result of last night's consultation was a phone call at 8:30 this morning to arrange a face to face appointment with one of the doctors at lunchtime today. One can't ask for much better service than that!! Thankfully the result is probably just fluid on a stained knee, so painkillers and short walks are the order of the next few days to see if there is much improvement. She managed a short walk after lunch, but not quite the 7 mls we did prior to the pain coming.
Will pass on your good wishes WN. Good to see that you are able to get out for a walk. Just take care on the ice.
Millie, it certainly was very nice of the lady visitor to thank you that way. You must have impressed her with your knowledge. Well done.
Lovely photos, Moulesy, we know those views well. Where did your snow go?
Hope the new car behaves itself, tda, tricky things clutches!😄

Not been to the Orkneys brue, but St David’s is indeed wonderful. It was used to film a good bit of The Hollow Crown, the special Olympic Arts nod to Shakespeare. Love the Palace as well.
