Happy birthday, M, when it arrives. Hope you had a lovely family get together.
We are on a CL near our daughter's until tomorrow, when we head home before the snow arrives. We have been here for 4 days and apart from a dry walk for both of us this afternoon I have been out with Flyte in the rain for some if not all of the walks that we have done. The wind had also been rather fierce and we even had a few short hail showers this evening. Our daughter came round on Wednesday bearing more foreign chocolates and last night we went round to her house for a meal. It was good to catch with all their latest news, as it has been a while since we've managed to get together.

Weather turning colder now and have got light rain. Birds busy on the feeders.
Off shopping tomorrow as we have a couple of parcels coming Tuesday and Wednesday from that well known online retailer had a couple delivered last week 1 was a new mattress cover as they do UK Kingsize as the French one is 10cm wider. Will get some more sunflower hearts for the birds if some still about as they only stock once here for those seeds once sold that is it although I can get them from the LPO if needed but dearer.

Thanks for the good wishes - we had a great night out at a new place to us, one that our nephew had discovered quite near Westonburt and Highgrove, so we may have lowered the standard of the usually very classy clientele. Had fun with one of our great nieces who is 7 and just beginning to show an interest in numbers, setting me the hardest maths questions she could think of and gobsmacked that I was getting them all right (till her mum pointed out that I had the calculator on my phone under the table!
)But in future, I might rethink the 5:30 start for the drive down to Cornwall next morning - really should know better at my age I suppose!

Am I right in saying that you tow with a Volvo XC60 we are considering buying one going to the garage tomorrow to make a final decision. It’s a 66 plate 2.0 D4 2WD. Can you provide feedback on how they tow I’ve read lots of reviews and all point to it towing our van no issue. If you can please let me know how you find it as I know you do a lot of towing in all conditions

Quite chilly here today, heating back on late morning. At least it was dry out.
Spent some time in the garage making a new door bar for the carpet to LVT transition for the upstairs bathroom. Builders laid plywood for me to lay the LVT on, so the floor height has increased so much that I will have to shorten the door. Think I will wait till they come to finish the shower and get them to carry it down to the garage for me........and hopefully back up again.
We have had a "paperwork day", sorting and filing some bank statements and credit card bills, receipts that need to be kept, instructions for things, etc. Most of our accounts are paperless, but there are a few we get statements for so that DD can give us balances and payments due if we cannot get on line.
Also helped OH fill up an application for a survey to see if the Guide Hall might qualify for any assistance with improving the insulation in the walls in particular. It is an old timber building (1961) and we do not think there is much, if any, insulation in the walls. The CH just could not get the place warm in the very cold weather before Christmas. The floor could also usefully be insulated, but the roof is good, and windows are all double glazed.

That's correct, Francis. Our's is a 2016 XC 60 4x4 , a D5 AWD, Automatic. It has been fine so far, and tows really well, even when we had the larger caravan. Not the cheapest to get serviced, and is relatively thirsty, but I guess you already know that. Would certainly consider getting another sometime in the future. Hope the one you are looking at suits you.

A good sunny day here, hoping the floods subside. Now waiting for a big delivery of fencing, lots of posts and rails plus some ordinary panels and extra bits to make gates...OH will be busy soon. Have noticed lots of hazel catkins out so we need to get a move on before some of the hedges start springing into life the where the work has to be done.
Hope the Goldies are making progress.
Enjoy your chocs Nellie, we won a big tub of Roses chocs last week....they're going in a raffle for local funds, have got too many Christmas chocs hanging around and no-one to eat them thanks to cancelled family visits.

A wet and windy chilly day here even had hail at one point whilst trying to get out of the car at Lidl's brr.

Got some reduced plant bulbs today 50% off just got to think where they are going only 3 to put in but think it will be a bit damp at present.
Back to a bit of painting tomorrow and hubby has got some wood trim to put on one wall in the lounge/dining area as he has bumped his office chair into the wall a few times and now do not have anymore of that paint left to repair it, may change the colour on that wall as the other 3 are a different colour and did have all 4 walls the same colour but again wall got marked again hence a different colour heyho.

Very cold here today, - 5c overnight then barely hot up to 0c all day. Lovely blue skies and sunshine.
I made my first ever loaf of bread today, turned out not bad at all but what a time it all takes.
OH went out to do a job in the caravan but it was so cold he changed his mind.
Booked a CL for our overnighter on the way to the ferry in April.
Not a lot of anything really today.

Margaret's last night of wearing her "pirate patch" at night after her cataract operation a week ago. It all seems to have gone quite smoothly although the benefits are not yet obvious as she is still wearing her glasses which I would imagine means one lens is now pretty useless. The hospital advice to remove the lens wasn't particularly helpful!

One week on for the new hip and we can see progress. OH can almost get dressed himself, except for shoes and socks. This afternoon, after the ice had gone, he walked across the yard to close a gate for our grandson. Still taking it carefully on crutches, but the pain is diminishing. His nurse is coping. Just.

Glad to hear that your OHs are progressing well after their respective operations, Goldie and DK.
We came home yesterday, an easy drive during the first fully fine day for over a week. Fine and sunny again today but quite cold, with patches of ice on the pavements and on the cars. I did manage to get the car cleaned in the afternoon after the sidebar warmed up a bit, and OH completed the washing started yesterday and even had some outside on the lines for a while. I think it will be too cold tomorrow to wash the caravan, so that will have to wait for a few days. All the Lakeland Fells, the Howgills, Ingleborough and the other visible Pennine hills are cover in snow.
Wonder if Francis purchased his replacement tow car?

We've changed our plans as well Brue.
Snow fell from early last night. Must have stopped after I went to bed but enough of it on the ground to abandon plans for trip out. Nice and sunny at the moment but temperature not due to get much above freezing, if at all, today so this lot will freeze tomorrow. Changed our Click and Collect spot from tomorrow until next Wednesday.
Good to hear about progress for Margaret and Henry.
I've managed a bit more myself. I can't tell you the enjoyment that can be had from being able to tie ones own shoelaces.
Had a couple of walks yesterday as the weather was fine, cold but fine.Take care out there if you have some snow or ice around.

The hospital advice to remove the lens wasn't particularly helpful!
I found it worked quite well David. I muddled along like that for about 6 weeks. The optician wouldn’t prescribe anything until a month after and then of course you had to wait for the glasses. After the consultant follow up visit and getting his approval, I was even able to drive like that. As it was summer and bright I bought a large cheap pair of sun glasses at the chemist, which fitted over my normal ones with one prescription lens and one void.

We woke up to a thick layer of fine powdery snow this morning too! Although a warning for ice had been forecast it was still a bit unexpected. First time in all the years we've been coming down here that Penhale Dunes has been covered!
Edit - just read your post, brue, and yes, skis would have been ideal this morning!

No snow here in Devon, from our bedroom window we can see the tops of the hills on Exmoor, no snow there either. Not sure about Dartmoor.
OH ill in bed today, he was unwell in the night. So I’m at home catching up on housework today.
Glad that some are recovering well, good to hear, it all takes a little longer as we grow older.

I wondered if you had much on the north coast, M. We've got a covering but it’s nowhere near as bad on the south coast as I hear it is around Carland.

OH had the same advice when she had her cataracts done and removing the lens was the only solution as the eye was now much less shortsighted, so she could not have used her glasses (for the second eye) otherwise.
After the second eye was done, she can now even drive without glasses for the first time in over 50 years. However she can no longer read without them!

Thanks for the input re Margaret's cataract operation and her glasses. I can see the sense of removing the lens but I am reluctant just in case I damage the other lens. I can't see a way of popping the lens out. ( years ago you could unscrew something to ease the frame apart but they don't seem to be made that way any longer!) Margaret has a telephone consultation with a nurse from the hospital tomorrow so no doubt that will be discussed? I think probably we will have to return to Boots to seek their advice and perhaps they will be willing to remove the lens?

Bitterly cold here today, -3 overnight. Hard frost but no snow. Quite a lot of sun so nice and warm in the south facing rooms even with no heating on.
The builders returned today to finish the bathroom by fitting the shower enclosure, so it only remains for me to finish the woodwork, and then we can do the big clean up. Amazing how far plasterboard dust can spread!!
We are to leave the enclosure and all the sealant to set for a week (since it is a non essential shower), so should give me plenty of time to finish my tasks.
Builders carried the heavy mahogany bathroom door down to the garage for me to shorten, and back up again, so that was a big help, and also carried the surplus wrong size very heavy glass door back down into the garage. I will remove the hinges etc to keep as spares, then see if anyone wants to have the glass.
