Much better today, yesterday it snowed all day on and off. About 5 inches of snow on top of the layer of ice. Temps today are above freezing and everything is dripping. Sun out now and we have patches of blue sky once again 😊

Off out in a few minutes to do battle at Tescos, just a few things to get.

Goldie, I don't blame you stacking pots up. Going out into our utility room which is unheated is freezing. Only go out there for the freezer or to get bird food Brrrrrr.

I'll be a quite happy Billy-no-mates for 3 hours tonight as other 2 watch the final of Strictly.👍 Actually Mrs WN doing it out of love for her mum, as OH wouldn't watch it if left to her own devices.

Had rain most of the morning but very icy first thing. Had last physio visit from the 6 week early release team this morning. They couldn't have been better.

Not very impressed with BT. Despite fine tuning hub and getting more power it, once again, failed miserably last night when I retired to bed. Had to use phone hotspot again. Will leave it until tomorrow to give it another chance before speaking to BT.

Cheers Brue. No ghost last night. 😂

Heating back on now, a bit earlier than planned, but sooo cold out there.

Had to go over to Lidl for  milk, butter and eggs, took Smart as pavements still treacherous.  Very quiet in the shop.

Now preparing veg for sweet potato and butternut soup, first big soup of the winter.  OH going to try out roasting the veg in the air fryer.

New boiler seems to be giving good "savings!", despite the freezing weather, gas use seems to be 30% down on this time last year, but still 7 days to go of  the billing "month"

OH cannot stand those types of shows!  All these "reality " type things, that are certainly not our reality, are, to us, pretty "cringeworthy".......if that is a proper word!

Scowl, snarl, Grouse grouse grouse !!

Up like a lark today watching the very light rain beating the frost into retreat, sadly thats the best part of the day gone Now. Intended to do a little shopping but Ducato won't start so tried Green Flag.  Went twice to paper-shop second time because they'd put wrong w/e magazine in mine. Back home to see reply from Green Flag  -- On His Way  Due before  13:17.

Scamp turned up by 12: 15 BUT , sadly, he could not kick ducky awake, so I Messaged my tame mech { Does not work Saturday or Wednesday }to see if he can take it in on Monday when GF can up-load and deliver it to the west end of Crewe.  If they cannot take it on it will be taken to some other, unknown, garage !! Brian is not a happy bunny !

at least EVRI { Hermes as was } have delivered my last, latest & final item so I do have something to take my mind off Ducato and Football undecided ( I Think )   While I screw the wheels on  smile.

Keep warm and dry please wink

Kj,  most certainly a proper word, and so accurately applied to Strictly !!

Must remember to tell Goldie I'm refering to the TV Dance prog, not the area of the similar name where her family scratch out a living farming  !smile

Ah yes, the football, neither of us can stand that either!

Really annoyed  that the  Beeb cannot put it on BBC 2, rather than disrupting things like the 6pm and 10pm news.  It is not as if some people cannot get BBC 2!

Do they not realise that many of us do not "live for football"?

Soup now liquidised, have not added any extra liquid as we will freeze most of it, so do not want to have too much to freeze.

Have tasted it,  must say it tastes delicious!

    Recipe is ......

    2 onions

    a whole bulb of garlic

    these fried in the pot

    several carrots, roasted

    2 large sweet potatoes, roasted

    1 large butternut squash, roasted.

3 little tubs of veggie stock.

    olive oil to  cook/roast

Water to cover veggies in pot

Will dilute with water or milk when using as it is very thick at the moment.

B2, we have had similar temperature to yourself, but it did manage to get up to 2 C today and it is still above freezing. Water all sorted and now waiting for contents in the the larger aquaroll to melt. Morning walk from site and then drove to Stamford Bridge after lunch for a walk along by the Derwent to Low Catton and back. It's nice to have solid footpaths at the moment but they will soon be muddy in a couple of days if the expected thaw comes.

Well I am a Strictly fan and watched it last night. I was most impressed with the dancing, all 4 finalist couples were excellent although my favourite didnt win. OH is a football fan so will be happily watching the final this afternoon. 😁 It is good to escape the bad news occasionally.

Shame we didn’t know Nellie, you would have been welcome to pop in yesterday for a warm up and a coffee!  Strictly is the only show of its ilk that we watch Millie, can’t stand most reality shows or these noisy, loud ‘pop’ quizzes!!!  I too was a bit surprised at the winner as lovely as he is.

Thanks for that KJ-pre roasting the likes of squashes👍🏻, I always steamed them for literally the day🤷🏻‍♂️🙂. I regularly make stews & soups particularly when I spent a lot of time camping & in woods & forests. I also make my own stock with the peelings & general veg discardings. I ladle the lot out into sealable Tupperware type boxes & put them in my Coleman cooler then plugged it into the truck. There is usually one open in the fridge for goto snacks. I’ve found olive oil imparts a great flavour to anything with the upside of monounsaturated fats-flavour & health win/win.

PS-just remembered left over sprouts too. I have a thing about sprouts😊

Football leaves me cold, but I appreciate that others don't feel the same way and enjoy watching "big occassions". Until England went home my husband watched their matches while I watched films on my iPad, with headphones that almost shut out the sound. Both of us happy.

The thaw has begun here and its also raining ☔

We also made big batch of soup yesterday,Broccoli and Stilton and made some Stilton Puffs with the leftover cheese.  Afterwards went to visit a friend who I haven't seen for a while, it was great to catch up.

It seems everyone has been getting crafty for Christmas, first picture is Trevor's attempt, 🙂 the other 2 are actually insence burners that our sons girlfriend made for a charity auction.

Eldest son sent us a video of our Grand daughters first attempt at walking, she is only just 10 months. 😯 looking forward to enjoying Christmas with her and the rest of the family.

Lovely photos and great craft skills.

Last firm underfoot walk this morningfor a while 🥲. Felt cool despite the fact it was +1. But it was grey. Even greyer now, feels even colder, pouring with rain.

I much prefer cold and bright........

Football on, I'm off to wrap the last of the presents in a moment. I'm listening to radio 4's book of the week - a heart that beats. 🥲🥲

Unfortunately not Kj, we both detest football. I wish they would have a separate channel for it  then folk who want to watch it can, while those that dont can go on as normal.

More snow today started after lunch, didn't come to much but its now very dark so the lights are on.

When our eldest son was up the other day he said he'd forgotten how early it gets dark here and how late it gets light again. I told him that's our excuse for no longer get up early in a morning in winter laughing trying to keep the costs down on the leccy isn't easy this far north. it  took a bit of a hit when the family was here, so did the gas. worth it though to see them for a few days. Families must really be struggling with the costs.

Christmas cards are few and far between this year, not sure if its down to the postal strike or just folk like us not sending so many out.

I like the dancing on strictly and used to follow it all the time but these days the judges and all the talking puts me off, same thing happened with dancing on ice.

Very dull here all day, and not much above +1 .     I have some orders for turned items.........a spurtle and 2 smallish bowls......following the 2 craft fairs I went to,  but  it is very cold down in the garage so have been putting that off.  Spurtle is to be a Christmas present apparently, so will need to make it tonight.

We had some of the soup for lunch, very filling, will not need a big dinner now.   Down at DD's again tomorrow, so will take some soup for lunch.  She likes my soup, but for Callum it has to be Tomato soup from Aldi!!

Thanks Heddlo, we didn't decide to head that way till after lunch, it would have been nice to meet up. We are now on our last night at Upper Helmsely Hall CL before moving around York to Selby. It has finally got above freezing but now have rain!yell Hope it has stopped by 10:00 tonight, or at least by the morning, and that the temperature continues to rise, or it will be rather dicey towing tomorrow.

Our daughter has had a difficult weekend, her dog, who I have often mentioned sometimes stays with us, started seizing yesterday evening and it carried on and off through the night. Early trip to the vets, spent some considerable time there and they think that the dog has developed epilepsy. She has previously had a couple of fits here but then she was ok, clearly not this time. She is the sweetest and gentlest of animals but very hyper, both me and OH have considered for a while that something may be amiss with her. Our old spaniel was epileptic, she died at an old age, but I think her illness was why we never got another dog, I didn’t want to go through it again. The family will give her lots of love, it’s them that it will affect as, if anything like our old dog, they don’t seem to know much about it after a seizure just rather disoriented. Still quite an upset though with a much loved pet, especially for the kids.

Sorry to read that Debsc, our old terrier developed mid life epilepsy, there was no known reason and we never knew when or where it might happen. I used to carry emergency medication for a bad session but didn't ever use it. She did however have less fits as she got older and lived till 17yrs in reasonably good health. Hope things work out for your daughter's dog too. 🐕

Very dark morning here, being battered by strong winds and rain, very mild.

Didn't get to son in time with instructions on " how to ice the Christmas cake" I'd  sent up....he and grandson used golden icing sugar by mistake....

Ha ha, well that is just different Brue, it might catch on. I’m sure that it will taste just as nice.

Yes that is the problem, you never know where or when a seizure will happen. Can never leave them in the car alone, in kennels and never be just out of sight on a walk. Our daughter will cope, as part of her illness our lovely granddaughter sometimes has seizures, can’t believe it’s now the dog as well. Lots of tablets prescribed by the vet and regular blood tests. We used to roll our old dogs tablets in a little cheese throw it in the air and she would catch and swallow them easily. This dog is canny and getting tablets down her twice a day will be difficult.
