OH has warming seats in his car and a warming steering wheel which he loves. I didn’t know I had either, until I left it last week for it’s MOT. The engineer must have been cold because I jumped in it for the homeward journey to find my seat lovely and toastie, problem was it became too toastie and, despite pressing every switch I could think of I couldn’t turn it off. Our village traffic lights were broken so a massive queue, with me wriggling around because my bum was burning.🥵 OH reaction - Surely you knew you had a heated seat, I always use it. Me, No!

Love it, definitely a car for today. 🤣
Ours tells us if we are upside down, about to descend a sheer drop, and reminders everywhere that it’s Jeep and are we insured? You can’t beat the Yanks for OTT insurance issues. Having said that, there are a few Americans who forgot basic driving and have been squashed by their own Jeeps😱 Not least poor Anton Yeltsin.

Anton Yelchin, not Yeltsin…… predictive text🙄

We had a first edition LR Freelander for a short while, and it had three brilliant features. You could lower the rear tailgate window, just like the side windows, so brilliant for dogs. It had split glass sunroofs, and finally, and much missed, a heated front windscreen. I think this was when Ford owned LR, as not sure if the heated screen technology went into later models, when Ford had sold the Marque on. It was the very last LR we owned. Nice to drive, but it had big issues, expensive ones. Traded in for a Jeep Patriot. I do miss that heated front screen in this weather.

Mrs WN took her "non-extra" car in for her 9 o'clock appointment at the garage. It was -7° when she left home. All sorted. Bill was what we expected, to do with exhaust system.
5 o'clock this morning, after just getting back to sleep I was awoken by a crashing sound. I eventually decided it sounded like an electric toothbrush falling over in the bathroom. Went back to sleep. Got up and nothing was amiss! Strange. So I mentioned it to the neuro physio when he called later. He said it was a condition called, in lay man's terms, "Exploding Head Syndrome". Look it up on Google. Lucky me, being picked to have it eh? Fortunately it sounds benign but irritating.
Last visit from that particular physio. Have 1 more on Saturday. Day off tomorrow. Whoopee.

Beautiful day full sun no cloud but still frosty ,so we (well I)decided to have a stroll into Peterborough via the rowing lake as wheel chair power battery was good for about 10miles have lunch in Wetherspoons, and back on bus,
Visit the Halfax and if our accounts were bouyant move some money and see what Nationwide could do which was a good move although had a problem with OHs as a jobsworth in the Halifax tried to say I could be money laundering? so got manager who was more "old school"and agreed that OH could sign as best she could
Nationwide not a problem as we saw manager and he sorted it for us although still not allowed to give financial advise
It took 3 visits to each venue though luckily they are opposite each other
So lunch was at 1520 in Wetherspoons, and then catch the bus back, not the best time to travel, but driver let us and a twins pushchair on nice other passengers all moved to allow both of us on, as we were going to wait for next bus
Then as it was dark missed our stop and driver let us off about 300yds further on

Another great fantastic day. Very cold but it just added to the magic. Went to Rydal cave and used the stepping stones (and our trekking poles) to get inside. Last fish and chips in Keswick and now safety home.

Fun and games here, the joys of an old house😱 We lost part of our electrics yesterday, mainly kitchen area. After much head scratching and testing by ourselves, we gave up, cobbled together an extension for the fridge and the TV (football, didn’t want to miss the semi) and called in the experts this morning, lovely local electrician. Much head scratching, then OH remembered we had an old unused double socket behind our built in fridge. This was after most of our kitchen had been ripped apart, so it was like a battle ground as I left for Mum’s this morning. Problem finally solved though, it was that old socket, so it’s now blanked, and all is now fine. Everything safely and carefully restored thankfully.

Glad you got that sorted TDA, it was -9C locally last night and it's similar tonight, so very cold if there's no power. We didn't light the fire today and I'm missing it tonight . I've got three dogs here, OH having a Christmas meal out with friends, daughter and partner performing music. Hope DSB is coping with all the festive music too!
Pot grown Christmas tree might be on it's last year inside, it's nearly touching the ceiling, I couldn't reach the top. 🌲
Put some chestnuts on the fire last night....

Beautiful👍🏻, the reflective pic is quite stunning👏🏻👏🏻

Yes, I saw Bristol Harbour had started to freeze yesterday🥶Winchcombe down to -12c🥶🥶🥶 It’s a mere -3c this morning. We luckily only lost power to kitchen sockets, so rest of house fine. We rigged up an extension for fridge and pretended we were on holiday and hand washed our few pots🤣
Another day caring for Mum. Got the pooch with me, so he can enjoy a walk and Mum’s garden. Got a cousin coming up from London tomorrow to see us, so will be nice to have a catch up. Loving everyone’s photos, home and away👍

Helen I am pleased to hear that your appointments have been changed to lunchtimes so that your journey is a bit easier. Good to hear also that the staff are lovely. Are you affected by the nurses' strike?
Luckily not Millie, one of the radiographers said they have 5 nurses attached to the department and she didn't think any of them were on strike, one of them had said she just couldn't afford too.😒

Been extremely cold here too, -8 overnight, 🥶🥶 but at least the sun has made an appearance over the last couple of days.
Looking forward to my couple of days off from radiotherapy at the weekend, juggling work and appointments is very tiring, boss saying take as much time off as I need hasn't exactly been easy in practice! 😱.
I've decided after chatting to a few of the others in the waiting room at the hospital I have been very lucky. One lady I was talking to today had to have 6 months of Chemotherapy and was now halfway through her radiotherapy.
Lovely photos, thanks for sharing 🙂🙂

Best wishes Helen.
Had another "episode" last night when the bedside cabinet decided to pretend someone bumped into it!🤣 Got to laugh haven't you?
Lovely crisp day. BT outsourced engineer called today. As the problem only exists after 7pm and in one room, the bedroom, I'll find out later if he's fixed it.

Well a busy day. Got a phone call last night asking if I would do a day at the school I work with and they were going to be very short staffed.
As it was the last day of term I said yes and usually there's a good atmosphere and there was, and hostilities are suspended for the day though slowly at first - think about the Christmas truce of 1914 and you'll get the idea.
In the the year 7 assembly just before it started they had some Christmas songs on and it was an amazing to see and hear all of them singing along to Last Christmas and they all knew the word to a song that very likely came out before their parents were born yet here they were word perefct. I wonder if any of today's songs will last that well? Blimey that makes me sound old, I remeber my dad saying that to me!
Then a family tradition was restarted, we went to the Metro centre for an all you can eat Chinese buffet and some Christmas shopping. The last time we did this was 2019. Mrs C and girls are still there while the menfolk came home early.

Feel for you over that WN. I had strange after effects following an eye op and later discovered it was quite common, luckily these things settle down. Best wishes to you.
My daughter told her registration group they would be going to the school Christmas concert and talent show today and they asked if it was on Zoom...it was the first live "fun" event that the whole school have enjoyed over the last few years. They all had a good time, sent on their way happily for the Christmas holidays.

It got down to at least -6 C last night so glad that I took pump's filler pipe off again before going to bed. Both OH, this morning, and I this afternoon were able to get our showers. However this evening the pump was not working because of the ice floating in the barrel had been drawn up into the filler pipe. Will have to get the aquaroll de-iced before we use it tomorrow, but thankfully we have a water container partially full in the van for washing and a brew or two.
The day started off sunny but a mist soon came over. Drove around to MacArthur Glen for a bit of retail therapy and were soon out of the mist, although the temperature didn't get much above freezing. Essential shopping at Aldi en route back to the van, then a couple of walks before dinner.
Glad to read that your OH was able to sort out the electrics at home tda, not the weather to be without. WN these things that jump out at one are a real nuisance. Helen all the best for the remainder of your treatment.

Been very cold here for the last 5 days - 8 most nights. Not been above freezing during the day either. Those poor folk on Shetland have now gone 5 days and nights without power some won't get it back on until Monday.
Today we got up to snow, we've had about 5 inches now, on and off all day. Not due to freeze tonight so with a bit of luck it won't hang around for long.
Dentists, I'm with Denplan and pay around £25 a month which covers me for 2 check ups with dentist and hygienist every year + x rays, fillings and even crown work though I do have to pay for dental machanics bit. Started out at £17.50 and has gradually gone up over the years. New good dentist about 3 years ago. We've been allowed mouth washes for about 18mths now I think. Dont have a problem getting appointments.
I've brought down from the attic some heavy warm curtains for the lounge and dining room to see if that helps with the cold. May as well use them since I've kept them all these years.
Had to go and collect the gKids from boarding school on Tuesday. The school had frozen pipes in the teaching block and a couple of the boarding houses. They were due to break up today for the hols.
Their dad drove up on Wednesday from Nr Salisbury as planned, then back down the road again on Thursday morning. Was going to stay until Friday but a look at the weather forecast changed his mind, good job to given the conditions today.
Christmas presents all but done, food shopping just the fresh stuff to get then to hibernate until the New Year 😅
Take care everyone its not nice out there.

It seems a bit daft to say it's warmer today but at 10.00am it is actually +1 degrees here in MK. Like others we have been down to -8 and it has struggled to get above freezing most days. Apparently it might be a warm as +14 in a day or two! Before we get that excited about a heat wave there is concern that before then it might rain and then freeze!

Feeling quite hard done by now with others dentist prices. My £21.75 a month, as I said previously, pays for two checkups and three hygienist visits, with numbing injections, a year, but any work needed at all is charged on top and it isn’t cheap.
If the temperature in Devon is to rise to 14 as predicted I wish it would hurry up. We have shut off the dining room and one bedroom but the house is still taking too long to warm. We can’t remember such a cold spell for quite so long since we moved here 37 years ago. Maybe we are feeling it because we are home all day now, when we used to both be at work for long hours. Maybe the ‘Work from Home’ people aren’t quite so keen now. The warmest place I have been is the bank.
Quite a lot of Christmas cooking done for the freezer and our kitchen is very large and is the coldest room, so I needed a blow heater out there to boost the radiator. Present wrapping in the living room today, so hopefully warmer. The birds are going through food at an alarming rate, but if it keeps them alive then that’s fine.
£11 in vouchers to be used in Tesco and I think Monday is the last day for their 25% off 6 bottles of wine, so could be a good saving. Don’t really want to go twice so wondering if Monday is too early to buy the fresh veg. Grandkids have put in their orders for Christmas dinner, which I have promised. Pigs in blankets (I hate them) cauliflower cheese, and Yorkshire pudding, that’s their list, and of course Nan’s very crispy roasties + mashed swede for me, plus the other usual fare. I also found a really lovely recipe for red cabbage, I added some port and it’s now in the freezer. OH is happy as long as he gets his Christmas pud.

After yet another cold and clear night, just -5, we now have a +1. Been a glorious couple of days after days of freezing fog which wasn't pleasant, apart from the pretty trees and hedges. Clouding over now, but lovely walk with Dora. Been lovely to walk on hard ground and not looking forward to wet muddy walks....
Pleased to read folks news, off to make mince pies, after which it's either regular fruit cakes or sort shopping list. I have a delivery Tuesday, but it will be to early for fresh things, so a visit to local shopping centre as early/late day wise as I can for fresh stuff.
We're off to DIL mum's for Christmas day, I'm doing starter apparently smoked salmon has been requested. I'm hosting cold cuts on 27th so need bits for that.
Various appointments next week but fingers crossed all clear after Wednesday afternoon.
Might have to put TV on whilst I cook Summer Holiday is on, first film I ever saw at the cinema, never seen it again 🤣

We have sun right now, but still cold, just over 1 degree in the shade.
Yesterday was poor, cold and grey, 10cm of snow when we woke, heating on all day unfortunately. Roads and pavements very icy, no sign of a gritter.
Today is a bit better, we have had sun, rain, sleet, black clouds, more rain, and now sun again. OH trying to do washing with the power from the roof, we have a pile of dirty dust sheets that were covering carpets and furniture, so I have shaken them out as best as possible and half of them are now in the WM. Will be at least one more load.
No progress as yet with the shower enclosure, manufacturers are now involved to supply correct parts. The skip will be going on Monday, hopefully, so I have been gathering up all the boxes from around the house to get rid of as much debris as possible before it goes.
Little Nathan has yet another cough and cold, and has shared them with me, so I am not feeling too great at present ☹️

I’ve finally finished all the washing up from last week. Our sink is in a large cold pantry and the outflow froze. The investigating and fixing were bottom of the list to get water to all the stock and keep the milking parlour clean and frost free. It’s a good job I have a huge stock of pots and cutlery which I just kept piling up on the draining board.
