Price Rise

I don’t quite understand the point of this post. Energy costs have increased a hundred fold so it’s not surprising that is passed on to users by the Club. Those going abroad for winter need also to be aware that some sites in Europe are restricting electricity supply to pitches. At Camping Memling in Bruges, new arrivals are told the supply there is 6amp and usage is restricted to 5kw per day. People going over this limit are simply disconnected from their EHU by the site. If you are going abroad make sure you have a good gas supply…!

I looked into this a bit more last night.
It seems that the old type, non smart, meters are no longer being manufactured, so if your old meter HAS to be changed , you will most likely be given a smart meter.
However, some, but not all, companies will agree to not set it up as a smart meter if the customer requests that.
We only refused the earlier type of smart meter because of problems with compatibility with solar panels, now that has been resolved, we are happy to have them.
For us, I cannot think of a good reason to refuse smart meters, and they may in the future give us access to better tariffs

For the pitches, possibly yes at the moment. However, Experience Freedom, for the Glamping pods, etc….. it’s working the other way.
As you say, if you want, need to book early, you simply accept whatever the price is at time of booking, which is how a good percentage of Members operate. Money in the bank for the Club, Members pleased because they have got what suits👍

We have booked ahead with the other club for next summer, you get used to deposits and know which sites might be a problem if you try to book late. Other than that if prices fluctuate we can pick our way around other possibilities, we tend to only book ahead for specific events or places. It's unlikely prices will go down below present levels.

As posted before booking early is great for this cubs coffers,,it seems the nearer to your arrival date the higher the price is likely to be
In todays paper there are several companies advising to book early as prices are increasing
And as in this clubs small price increases can be implemented on bookings already made

I can’t recall reading anything like this C, but I do know that in the T&Cs, the Club reserve the right to alter the price of any booking made, and that prices in place at time of booking will not be honoured, although there will be the right to cancel. (Whether that includes the final 21 days, I simply don’t know🤷♀️) Some budget hotel chains offer a cheaper price/ no deposit refund policy, which again is great if like us you book close to your arrival date. There are all sorts of pricing models out there.😁

I looked it up too when our meter had to be changed and that's how I discovered the only requirement is for the supply companies to offer smart meters. We decided against having one and, despite BG telling us we had to and continually pushing the smart system, we stood our ground and had a new dumb meter installed. Physically, they do look the same on the outside.

I suppose there is still time, but they have not so far. Because of the new bank holiday our 3 night stay at Cheddar would cost £26.90 more if booked today. Even without that it would be £17.70 more. Even a site that we booked on the new booking system for next year has increased by £6.80 for three nights, again not passed on.
As long as they maintain a stance of honouring the price, I think members will be happy to part with a deposit. OK it’s in their bank account, but you are getting a good relative rate of interest, Most companies do have a clause saying they reserve the right to increase prices, to cover themselves for exceptional circumstances. Not many do though, as it’s bad for repeat business.0 -
This is the section of the T&Cs I was talking about…….
Price of Club site pitches and Accuracy
Our published/advertised prices are valid only for the duration that those prices are published and are subject to change at our sole discretion. In the event that published prices change, the new published prices will apply to new bookings made and the old published prices will not apply to new bookings. We make every effort to display prices on our website, mobile App and booking confirmation correctly. However occasionally changes and errors occur and we reserve the right to correct prices and other details in such circumstances.
From time to time, we may need to make changes to the published prices after your booking has been confirmed. In such circumstances, the following may apply: (a) where the revised price is less than the price stated in the booking confirmation, we may charge the lower amount; (b) if the revised price is higher than the price stated in the booking confirmation, we will contact you as soon as possible to inform you of this change and provide you the option of continuing your booking at the revised price or cancelling your booking (if we are unable to contact you using the contact details you provided during the booking process, we will treat the booking as cancelled and notify you in writing); or (c) where the revised price is higher or less than the price stated at the time of booking we may leave your booking unchanged.
The price of a booking includes VAT (where applicable) at the applicable current rate chargeable in the UK for the time being. However, if the rate of VAT changes between the date of your contract and the date of your stay, we will adjust the VAT you pay on any remaining payments.
I hope your bookings remain unchanged Steve👍

It’s all as clear as………mud WN. Not that it will bother many, not everyone reads the T&Cs…….

Sorry to go back to this again but I've been busy.
Citizen's Advice say that you do not have to accept a Smart Meter, anyone being forced to do so by their electricity provider should contact Citizen's Advice at the earliest opportunity.
I agree TW, I don't want or need one so will refuse if offered one. 😊
Apologies for going off thread again.

Well we booked most of them under the old system at the beginning of May, and yes the price on my bookings remains the same as on our confirmation email. Most of the increase occurred on the 12th September, with only a small further increase recently. Therefore if they are going to increase them they have had since the 12/9 and a further chance with the recent increase.

I read those. The first bit basically says new prices will apply to new bookings rather than the old prices, which makes sense.
In the event that published prices change, the new published prices will apply to new bookings made and the old published prices will not apply to new bookings.
The second bit says they may increase or decrease the price you were invoiced. The operative word being may.
From time to time, we may need to make changes to the published prices after your booking has been confirmed. In such circumstances, the following may apply:
As I put above, I think they are basically covering themselves for exceptional circumstances. As in the case of the electricity increase earlier this year, which did apply retrospectively. If they want members to make advanced bookings and rake in lots of nice deposits, one sure fire way of making sure that doesn’t happen is to not honour the price when booked.

As posted there is going to be very many members not only still unaware of the way to book but going to well out of pocket (Great for this clubs dash for cash)with little or no knowledge of just how essential it is to try to understand the T&Cs

Why are they going to be out of pocket JVB. Currently booking early seems to have secured a cheaper price by some margin. In the event of an increase or for any other reason you can cancel up to 21 days. It’s only the final 21 days that due to the wording of the T&C’s are unclear. Although personally I don’t see how they could do anything but give you a full refund, in the event you wanted to cancel due to late price increase. It would just be better if that was made clear.
