I am surprised to not see any comments at all on here about the event, especially on the exit at the round robin/league stage of both Germany and Belgium. Others favourites too have just made it through to the knockout stages. Sorry to see Walesgo out after the early rounds, but fingers crossed that England make it through against Senegal, but it won't be an easy game for them.

I am watching the tournament through gritted teeth. Enjoying the football, but hating FIFA and Infantino.
Its certainly throwing up a few surprises this time. Bye bye Belgium, Auf Weidersehn Deutschland. Argentina aren’t the usual force to be reckoned with, but of course have Messi who can change a game in mere seconds. Good to see teams from Africa, Japan, Australia playing well. France do look ominously good I have to say. We shall find out more later today👍
I think there was a female refereeing squad at the Euro’s last year ABM. I have a niece who referees male hockey matches. She takes no nonsense I can assure you😁
Come on England🥳

Tda, have you listened to the BBC Sounds podcast about Sepp Blatter... Powerplay? Makes intersting /depressing listening !!

No, not heard that. Don’t like any of them, Blatter, Platini, Infantino😡Bent as butcher’s hooks, the lot of them.
I had almost nodded off first half, talk about boring. Let’s hope second half is a lot livelier. Two good England goals though.🤞

It takes two to tango....Senegal holding off didn't make for a open game. A good third goal and safely through. France will be a very much harder test!!😖
Looks as if most of the regular posters have been focusing on the match tonight.
The podcast is well worth a listen, if you have time. It just shows how bent they all were, and probably still are.

FIFA needs disbanding. Totally corrupt.
France will be a very stiff challenge, although, probably a more conventional one than Senegal, so let’s hope they can play up to that French standard🤞 Shame they have to meet France this early.

Nellie, I appreciate that a "Full Female Refereeing Squad" may indeed have officiated in the Euro's but that ain't the same as Qatar with it's Uber-strict laws and rules .
As for Hockey, many moons ago I was, against my better judgement, dragged into the Mixed Hockey world for a warm up game in Cheshire. Sweetness and light it was not !! I'd hardly stopped querying why some blokes were wearing pretty little white gloves, when a teenaged girl ( Most deffo NOT a lady ) tried to enrol me in the Hospital outpatients waiting list !! Would not have minded normally but she was a G.P.O. telephonist of my acquaintance and was spreading the tale all around the Switchboard on Monday morning ! I vowed then to wear full cricket wicket keeping tackle should I ever get caught out again -- still walk with a limp but won't say a limp what
Have fun but keep warm, dry and posting happily

No problem from me, ABM, and I doubt that tda will be bother about the mix up either.
Two extraordinary games today, with Spain being knocked out by Morocco and then Portugal running riot over Switzerland without Ronaldo in the starting line up!

Love the hockey tale ABM. I used to play hockey, however, at Teacher Training College I was introduced to Lacrosse. Think something akin to aerial Murder Ball🫣 I once got sent off at Trentbridge! The goalie didn’t need an ambulance though🤣🤣🤣
Portugal absolutely cruised through tonight. Well done Morocco as well👏

Yet another huge upset with Croatia knocking out the favourites in many people's eyes, Brazil. Can the Dutch do the same tonight to Argentina? However at the moment it doesn't look likely!

Well who would have believed it, a second penalty shootout tonight, especially after Argentina went two up and the Netherlands not playing well at all! Anyone's guess who will triumph now.

One surprise after another...well done Morocco.
Time for England to take advantage of the misfortunes of others...will there be a better chance?

They are playing well, but France have been superb all through the competition. Poor HK, never easy.

...and then there were four....unfortunately not including us...yes, poor Harry but we play too defensively...Maguire probably had more possession than anyone else on the England team, however he doesn't know what to do with it.
you can't run a team with him and Stones as you playmakers...
time and again Shaw had the ball but after finding no one down the line with his left foot, he was unable to slip the ball onto his right to switch play to the England right side (a La Trent Alexander-Arnold) so the ball went back to Stones or Maguire...again...
At this level, players need to be two footed and we are sadly lacking in this area...time and agin players choosing not to shoot because the ball is 'on their weaker side'...an excuse pundits trot out for one of them hitting the grandstand..🤷🏻♂️
and then, with us one down, we get a free kick just inside the French half...what happens, instead of getting the ball into the area (we'd just spen ten mins trying to do just that) we take it short, get crowded out and the ball goes back to the keeper...
sorry, but this negativity must be drummed into them, it's almost as if they feel having more posssesion in their own last third wins games....its goals...scored at the other end.

Same here Pliers. I thought right from early matches France would progress well (providing they didn’t start the usual team infighting🤣), wasn’t sure about Argentina though, they looked a bit shaky in the group stages. But they deserve to be there now. Mixed feelings. team wise I would prefer France, but Messi has been incredible for Argentina. I would love for Morocco to win the third place play off, history in the making. But Croatia might just be too strong for them.

What a final.!
Weather was absolutely grim here, today, so after an early morning stroll, watched the entire game on TV.
Congratulations to Argentina, and to the UK based players from both teams who played in the World Cup final. What an amazing achievement.
