Is EHU metering a good investment?

In the past it not been so much of an obvious issue but price and consumption are inextricably linked and very much becoming a major feature in our budgeting as in those hotels, cruises, taxi firms and everyone else. Certainly it is in our homes but it’s also having a dramatic effect on the pricing structure of all in the leisure industry. Why are so many saying that pitch prices are now exorbitant, you really do know why, don’t you!

Are many saying they are exorbitant? I agree there are a few on CT, although quite a few of those don’t even use them, preferring CL’s or non CC sites, so hardly representative. From what I can see of advanced booking, when making my own, the sites still seem fairly popular. Energy in general has increased in price, as have wages, consumables and bought in services. Although electricity is a large element, it is by no means the only reason for escalating prices.

It not just CT users saying this but folk on other forums too. Thing is it really isn’t, as you suggest, just electric prices driving the price hikes across our budgets, it’s the wider world wide energy crisis. Oh, sorry to mention this but Brexit too amongst other things!😱

There’s no doubt at all that energy prices are pushing up the cost of everything we buy but it is not the sole reason for the escalation in site prices which has been a contentious issue for years as can be seen from the frequently recurring theme on here. There are many other factors involved. Dare I mention the cost of the new booking system?🫢

I did see it but paid little attention to be honest, I imagine that they can only go on previous years consumption and they, like the rest of us, were caught out by the increases.
I may have missed it but do they actually ask to have heating off while out?
0 -
Of course they do but if the cost doubles overnight then the club has little control over that?

Absolutely Tinny, don’t forget the name change, the rebranding, the work time agreement, those political and unmentionable factors, the list goes on! Not all of these are within the control of the club but some may be. As some will say, it is what it is! Our contributions to the hikes are also having a consequence in the grand scheme of things.

not helped by the ridiculous clock change which forces everyone to have their heating on for an extra hour each evening
YT, one is not "forced" to have the heating on for the extra hour because of the clock change, you can just ignore the change and stick to summer time, especially as you, like many on here, are retired and don't have to clock-watch.

Undoubtedly members' contributions (not "ours") in terms of energy use will reflect in price rises but the point I’m making is that it is far from the only reason, as you realise, and I think it’s doubtful if members turning heating down etc will make any meaningful difference. I think the consumption angle is probably being overstated and the real culprit will likely be the cost charged by the energy supplier.

Yep, pretty true Tinny, it’s just that some, may be a minority, take our biscuit and us for a ride at the same time and are allowed to do so. But yes, those energy suppliers and their political friends/ allies have so much to answer for! They are very much at the root of the problem.

You and I have no idea of the proportion of campers who are profligate with energy usage, Micky, and it may amount to only a very few so it’s my contention that blaming them for the increase in site fees is jumping to conclusions. I’m not sure speculation will help your situation.

I’m not blaming them, just pointing out that they, regardless of how many, are subsidised by us moderate users. The blame is on the system that allows these selfish few to continue in this vane. They certainly don’t set a good example to the rest of us In these difficult times and they are milking the system which allows them to do so. Surely because they can is not an excuse to do so in these challenging times, is it?

How do some members know that some members go out of their unit and leave their heating on , do they go round the site with a thermal imaging device ?
What are the Club do to save costs on their side ,or are they putting all on its members ?

No excuse, Micky, but I do feel you’re jumping to conclusions without sound evidence. The flaws of the existing system are being realised but that does not mean it is totally inadequate and it may yet prove to be the most cost effective for the end user - you. However, that will not be known unless and until metering becomes the norm. Like the deposit scheme, this could turn out to be another case of being careful what you wish for.

No David YT's comments about the moving the clocks is still there on page 37.

Those who are of the "I have paid so I will use it for my convenience" are the same who have no thought for others when leaving a mess when using any of the facilities,, or cannot be bothered to separate their rubbish before filling the first bin?with it all, or not breaking down large cardboard boxes ,

Where did you get that from my post? I said.
”Energy in general has increased in price, as have wages, consumables and bought in services. Although electricity is a large element, it is by no means the only reason for escalating prices.”

Probably posted before the Working Time Directive and Elf and Safety plus the growth of Litigation, has made for large increases' in this club and other organisations overheads and now staff cannot do many of the jobs once looked on as "part of my job"
As can be seen in the growth of outsourcing companies who's staff have qualifications to carry out such work now

Not sure why it needed to be 'missed' what's wrong with it?

In all honesty left over food you have paid for are called Doggy bags👍🏻

It’s interesting how this thread has progressed and deviated.
Returning to the OP again I note it’s about the merits, or not, of metering and poses the question if such an introduction could make pitches cheaper. In order to answer this I feel we must firstly ask what is it that is driving this consideration and why now. These two questions have driven my contributions. Regarding making pitches cheaper I’m not sure metering would making things cheaper initially, may be in the long run, but it would ensure everyone pays their way according to their own use. Not a bad thing in my view taking responsibility for own actions. Now I’ve been around long enough to remember holidaying with my parents at both holiday camps and cottages in the 60s. I remember having to feed the electric meter using tokens bought at the reception or coins from the holiday purse. Oh, and similar on showers on caravan and camping sites.Times were different then and as energy and cost of living fell for many of us these means of energy payment were mostly confined to history.
Today, things are very different, even to a year ago, and maybe a return to similar methods of energy purchase and an attempt to reduce wastage, should be considered.
Finally have the refurbishments like at Clumber incorporated heat pumps or solar panels? Every bit, including our thoughtful and measured usage, could help, couldn’t it? The World is changing and attitudes and practices with it!2 -
Heat pumps/solar panels should be a standard upgrade if CAMC are serious about consumption. A ban on awning heaters at all times seems an obvious energy saver. I will now await the howls of protest.
5 -
Heat pumps?, the jury is out on that one-plus it’s very costly initially🤷🏻♂️

How about a ban on overnight heating in vans, a ban on gas guzzling MHs and cars etc etc? Why not just stay home and save it all rather than suggest unenforceable ways to curtail folks' enjoyment of their holidays?
Metering is a realistic option, telling people how to use energy is not.
