What have they done?

The new system was acquired from elsewhere and initially used for Overseas bookings where DOB is probably required? It's possible it can't be can't be Deleted User from the UK Bookings side because it's an intrinsic part of the software? The fact that the Club seems to be justifying its inclusion on being able to identify the age of children suggests they have had problems with some claiming children are of a lower age than they actually are in order to reduce the site payment? I have no evidence, or seen any evidence, to support that suggestion but if it's not possible to remove the need for the DOB because of software issue why not just say so?
If you wish a different narrative perhaps as the CMC seem to be copying most of what the C&CC do perhaps they intend to introduce a pensioner discount at some stage in the future

David, I can't honestly believe that you think that will happen, but we can only live in hope.

Very tongue in cheek, hence the smiley. I don't seriously believe they will as they have always been firmly against the idea, it was even mentioned and batted away at the recent AGM. Having said that it seems that one positive of the new booking system is that it could cope with distinguishing between the retired and non retired, at least by age. It perhaps also could give them some useful information on the demographics of the membership as it might confirm the age bands of the general membership using Club sites?

David, even 45 years ago in the very early days of 'green screen' interactive systems, I was writing simple code along the lines of...
If booking is for a European site
Then ask for DOB info
Else
Leave question field blank
this sort of tailoring really isn't difficult..
Modern packages do have a core set of processes (eg SAP) but each can be left out of the overall business model or, if included, tailored to match each set of business requirements.

But It doesn't distinguish between retired and non-retired, as many now retire well before the official government retirement age. It has been very many years since I joined the club but doesn't one have to indicate ones are bracket when applying? From that they will be able to obtain the demographics of the membership, surely.

Thet did when we wanted Age Related Discount. They said normally we would have been able to take our passports or driving licences to a site office for authentication. However, because of covid I had to send pdf copies attached to an email. New ARD cards did arrive fairly promptly though.

If people are disinclined to provide this additional personal data, what ids to prevent putting 01/01/01 in the DOB field. They have no way of checking its authenticity.

I think this DOB panic is growing out of control. Metrics in myriad forms are there for a reason, ignore them or abuse them at your own peril. They are part of the ‘memorables’ package there as a layer of security along with many other facets. Getting into a frenzy re one part of it is not helping anything. I use all my facts & truly hard to guess passwords ie not Fido or Whiskers. DOB is just another bunch of numbers. The Bogey man needs way more to steal your ID👍🏻

Not really, JV. DOB is a matter of public record but the time to start worrying is when they ask for your NI number🙂

I really should worry then as I know both mine and OHs as I have had to give them so many times these last couple of years
Landline number I can remember but for the life of me not my mobile number I have to look it up every time
Many who need it have it on their screens and ask it it the number they should use ,as it triggers something when I am asked

Nah, it’ll be time to worry when I can’t remember it🥺🤯😄

As the DOB debacle is "under review" it sounds like another error that should have been programmed out. What seemed like an easy way to do it ie just transfer the overseas booking format has since proved very unpopular and unsatisfactory with the end users. 🤔

Brue, Having toured most of Europe most years since 1972 without ever using the overseas booking format I really can ‘t say whether it’s unpopular or unsatisfactory. But it’s certainly unnecessary. A site guide, a road atlas and a mobile phone was enough,
My good friends with a VW conversion travel in the same way here at home - they look at the weather forecast on a Thursday evening and decide whether or not to go away for the weekend. They aren’t Club members.
As for the infamous app. Well we got ourselves around New Zealand too without any sort of app at all even though some members seem to think that’s an absolutely essential bit of kit to go away even in the UK.
Haven’t the complaints gone on for long enough?

"Haven’t the complaints gone on for long enough?"
I think they’ll go on until folk are happy, Euro, and that could be a while yet.

I don’t think you are the only one that managed ET, but times were different. I’ve just been watching a programme about Apollo 11 in 1969. They went to the moon and back using computers with less processing power than I now have in the watch on my wrist. People like their Tech and strangely they expect it to work. The CC are getting there, but it’s taking almost as long as our return to the moon.😂

I was commenting about the need for DOB input on the UK system Euror. I don't have to input my dob when I book but have to input the date of birth and name for anyone going with me. This is understandable for ferry bookings, to know who is on board a ship, passenger lists etc) but members are asking why this has been used for UK bookings. On some devices it was impossible to add the DOB. I think this has finally been rectified? The new booking system has produced what you call complaints but for those of us who have actually used it "flaws and programming errors "
If it doesn't affect you it doesn't matter. We are only commenting about UK travel and the new booking system.

As posted before when this debacle of a booking system as has turned out, and it seems senior management were questioned?
It was already stated that a system designed for overseas bookings(even if successful?) was never going to be successfully bolted on to the UK type of booking system and also be user friendly

I tend to agree that the need for a DOB is somewhat superfluous in the UK booking setting. But what I don't understand is why the Club seems to be defending in some quarters rather than saying that they are working to remove the need? Perhaps they are saying one thing in one area and another elsewhere, all really confusing! As an aside when I go to my doctors surgery the only question they ask me initially is my DOB!
