my first venture into satellite TV, having Sky at home, was a portable jobbie which I couldn't really master.
I then had a through the roof manual system put on our second MH which was pretty easy to use but didn't have the pulling range for beyond the Loire.
when we bought the first Carthago I negotiated a mass of extras into the deal and a fully automatic system was one of them.
when we swapped to the slimmer version, the dish was moved to the new van as part of the deal.
if data gets cheaper and more plentiful, then the satellite will probably be of less use, especially in bad weather. however cheap data has increased its popularity which has allowed providers to crank the price a bit....we customers will never win.

David very similar to us. We started touring with a 45cm dish which was great in Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and Northern France. As we progressed to further south we bought a 65cm dish which served us well until they changed the footprint. We need a bigger dish says OH, so an 85cm one was purchased while we were abroad. Picking up a signal is certainly testing at times but OH now has a gizmo that is pretty fool proof. Of course that is with a manual dish that we use with the caravan.
The MH has an automatic all singing all dancing one. So much easier press a button and off it goes, so long as there's no trees in its path.
We don't have Sky so rely on Astra 2 or in Spain and Portugal Intelsat 901.
In the springtime we watch very little tv but at this time of year when it's dark by 17.30 in Portugal and 18.30 in Spain we do watch it more. Its not warm enough now to sit out in the evenings either.
As YT says being able to use your phone, tablet or laptop to watch the odd programme is fairly easy nowadays.
I'm definitely not tech savvy but have managed to workout (with a little help) how to 'cast' from my phone to the TV should we not be able to pickup a sat signal.

Yes, range is the issue for satellite, not a problem with wifi/mobile data which is available world wide, hence the cheaper, 'easier' streaming route to Strictly Come Dancing🕺
what many folk don't realise is that, while their satellite system happily picks up. BBC etc in the UK, as they venture over the channel, that 'uk centred' signal requires a bigger dish the further south/east you go...our 85cm dish will just about getting the Beeb on the centre of the French Med south coast, but the SE or SW corner is a tad too far..
OTOH, Sky broadcasts it's channels on a much larger 'pan European' beam which means they can easily be picked up all over Iberia even on slightly smaller dishes provided you have a Sky receiver.
trying to pick up BBC in Spain/Portugal on anything smaller than 1.2m-1.5m just won't be man enough.

I think the furthest Southeast we have had a decent Astra2 signal was Cavalier sur Mer, the furthest southwest was St Jean de Luz. This year we picked it up just south of Narbonne. However if there is 'weather' that goes out the window.
