Off to Portugal
Hi Off to Portugal mid May for 5 weeks and some of the club sites there dont seem to have many recent reviews.
We intend starting near cadiz and make our way up the west coast of portugal.
Does anyone have any recommendations of good sites/locations.
We are caravanning so any info re tolls /routes also gratefully received.
Thanks

You are right - some sites which the Club is selling in Portugal have very few reviews on here. But there are other reviews which are easy to find in other places.
For instance Camping Cepo Verde has just one review on here, but there is another on UKCampsite, 15 on the Camping Card website and 27 on PitchUp. I can’t give you campsite suggestions but all those websites are good places to look for ideas on other campsites.
I hope your tour goes well.

>The Orbitur chain of sites< used to be the better sites in Portugal. It maybe worth your while becoming a member, I have a vague memory that as a member there used to be an OAP discount as well?

Hi everyone - thanks for your responses.
With regards to Dorset Driver - yes thats the idea.
We were hoping (advised) to stay at Playa Las Dunas and ferry over to see Cadiz and then head towrds Lagos area and then head up the west coats towards Porto before heading back into north spain.
We are not to bothered about having major family site facilities just clean and tidy.
Any recommended sites / sights would be very useful.

Hi Tighlines28, we are currently in Portugal having travelled down the Costas, across to Jerez then onto Portugal.
We left the Algarve this morning and heading north to Evora Monte for the night before crossing back into Spain at Badajoz.
Had we the time left we would certainly have gone all along the Algarve and then up to Lisbon and the west coast. Maybe next time.
We stayed on the site at Albufeira for the last 3 nights, big site. At this time of year only 2 areas open, some folk staying for the season while plenty of other's like us for a few days. The site has excellent facilities, a bit dated but cleaned all day long, plenty of hot water and fully adjustable showers, no push buttons. Restaurant, cafe, shop and pool. As mentioned not the same as Spanish sites more Italien/French in the informal layout. Staff were excellent. Would use this site again.
Roads are good, have not used motorways. Fuel is cheaper than Spain. Food costs very similar.
May time could be different to now but we have not booked any sites before hand and not had any trouble getting pitches.
Have a great time.
