An interesting read this thread. Although since retirement it's as stress free as it can get (I always found being responsible for something the stressful bit) as it can get I find going away from home in any form with or without a caravan, home or abroad, even less stressful.

At home there's always something to get done even if it's loading the dishwasher or the washing machine, something always needs doing/fixing. Away from home it really is about just enjoying yourself. Some times that is a busy day but I can easily while away an afternoon just sitting in the caravan or by the pool doing very little.

In other words, for me, holidaying is good for you I would have thought.

For me, being away in the caravan is stress free. We are those caravanners who stay on the same site - ideally for a week (or more if we’re lucky). No deadlines. No timetables. No fixed meal times. No feeling guilty if we do nothing all day. No site seeing f we can’t be bothered. And when we go to bed at no fixed time, no plans for the next day.

I couldn't agree more. For me, I find the whole experience of caravanning relaxing from the travel, to setting up the caravan and putting the awning up, right through to breaking everything down and moving on.

The first few miles from home are a bit nervous if I havent towed for a while, but I'm soon enjoying the journey and planning where to stop for a cuppa. (Gloucester Services...best sausage rolls ever!)

I would always be thinking about security when away, and the length of the lawn, so we have had an alarm system fitted and now pay someone to come and mow the lawn each week.

What always surprises me is how big our small bungalow feels when we get home having been living in a caravan for 4 or 5 weeks. It reinforces our decision to downsize and take early retirement 3 years ago. Best thing we ever did
