Ina, that post is so unlike you.

Do you mean to suggest people join CAMC without bothering to read about the workings of the organisation they join? The club's governance rules are on the website for everyone to read and it’s not necessary to use the forum to know about governance.

Your analysis maybe completely right. So far this year we have use 7 Club sites, 4 Commercial sites (would have been 5!) 2 C&CC sites and one CL. However I wonder if all those complaining only use Club sites and don't appreciate even under the new Club T&C's  what is generally out there is often equal or worse that the new arrangements? Putting CL's to one side as they have a multitude of conditions from no deposits to full up front payment. There are not many mainstream sites where there is a minimum requirement for a deposit and in many cases a requirement for full upfront payment weeks before arrival. The only option to partially avoid those T&C's would be to book at the last minute. Having said that we know that many "Club Members" like to book months and months in advance. These people are not going to find a happy home away from the Club in my view?

DK, There are lots of sites where one can phone on the previous day and ask if there will be vacancies for the following afternoon. And if  they say Yes, then turn up, thank them and book in - without any payment in advance at all.

Agree. Steer clear of the big commercials, use CLs and the small independents and it’s another World.

But you surely agree that learning of the club's governance was available to you and didn’t depend on using the forum🤷🏻‍♂️

Maybe so, but I am suggesting that the people saying they are giving up Club membership because they don't like the new conditions their general MO is to book in advance, probably, quite a way in advance as the Club have previously allowed them to cancel at short notice without any penalty? I am just putting forward the suggestion that they are going to find it hard to find something similar. I somehow doubt they are the sort of people that are willing to " wing it" by phoning a site on the day? They can't really migrate to the C&CC as their T&C's are not as generous as the CMC.

...and some where you can 'book' in advance without a deposit and even pay when you leave, as we did recently with a small commercial in the New Forest. £21 a night and a lovely site, miles away, in character (it has some) from a couple of well known Club sites in the area at twice the price.

David, folk leaving the club will need to check other sources for alternate sites, but, as ET reminds us, there are many sources and search facilities out there...

I’m sure they were available, although I can not remember what form the web site took then. I know our first bookings were on the telephone, as online had not started. I’m sure there was information in the SD. However, it was really the “without bothering to read” bit I was questioning. I’m sure many, possibly most, do not bother to read.

I think the new booking system will take a little time to get used to.  I don't have an issue with deposits, one way or the other, but I am so pleased we are now able to book pitch surface types.  It has been a long time coming.....

P.S.  For anyone who is interested, I have updated the list of Serviced Pitches on CT, to include 4 sites where serviced pitches have been put in this year:  Cheddar, Clumber Park, Morn Hill, and Scarborough West Ayton.

I so agree with what you posted  it was only when we "got into the swing of things" that many parts of this clubs governance was "learnt?"

And even after the  over  53yrs of membership there will be bits we are unaware of,

And several bits have only been realised why they are there is.by our acquaintance with site staff and others

Bob Black was a real asset to site staff and members who we met on numerous occasions

Just wanted to give advice to anyone  having trouble either doing multi site bookings or amending bookings on the new system and finding sites unavailable.

If you are using the Chrome browser and try to either amend a booking or add a second site to a booking, the site shows the dates as unavailable. If you try doing the same thing in Firefox it shows as avaliable. So try using Firefox for this.

Having failed to make a couple of minor amendments in Chrome to some bookings I made the other day, I cancelled the whole lot and started again. After experimenting further I then discovered what was happening.

But I have now got the bookings I want, having spent half the morning doing them again and have figured out how to make amendments if necessary. By not using Chrome on my laptop! Although Chrome seems to work OK with it on my phone.

Have the club decided they have too many members and want to cull some, as I certainly will not be rejoining when my membership comes up for renewal unless they sort something out with their booking system or better still revert to the old system

I don't think so. Looking at the latest accounts it does not appear that there has been a huge increase in membership but they have had a very healthy 2021 season with site occupancies/prices levels up judging by a record profit made on site revenue.

There will be no going back to the old system, that is wishful thinking.

Have posted several times about this issue, finally I have an answer, thank you.

I've been having problems using Chrome on a lappie with Win 10, tried it with Edge which I dislike & it works, so way to go until they find a 'fix' for Chrome....

    Hammer

As Peedee says there will be no going back from the new system. Hopefully its useability  will be improved but no going back. After all this has been discussed for the last 2/3 years.

Now a serious question for you. If you decide to abandon your Club membership what do you intend to do instead? If it's to move towards more commercial sites do you use such sites at present as a mix with Club sites? I ask because with the odd exception I can't see how you would be better off not using CLub sites as you do now?

There certainly are, we were on one last night, 2 miles from a CAMC site. No deposit, charming owner, clean facilities, pay once you are sorted attitude. Mix of grass and h/s pitches, open all year and half the price of CAMC.

Good to hear from you Tammy. I myself have toured 20 countries without phoning more than a day ahead - ten of them were with a caravan and ten without. The passion that some fellow members have for making reservations a year in advance is beyond my understanding. Good wishes to you. Happy travels.

Interesting to hear members experiences.  It took me back a few years ago when the other club updated their booking system.  Exactly the same thing happened with them, it was an abysmal cock up and consequently I didn't renew my membership with them.

So when I heard of the rumour of the CAMC launching a new booking system I made all my bookings before it was introduced and have everything booked until next June and it hasn't cost me a penny in deposits. I would have booked more dates after this but the calendars were stopped at June, I guess to stop people booking too far ahead?

I have had to amend one booking but couldn't change it online.  There is a glitch whereby the height of the motorhome is required when booking but there is not the option to add it.  So ended up speaking to HO who amended the details and now all is good and the amendment is complete.

So my experiences so far have been a lot better than when the others made the change.

Only just checked in again, being "over there" (or rather "here" as that's where I am now) does get in the way of looking in on CT laughing

No idea why you think that post was so unlike me; I think you misunderstood what I was getting at (perhaps being Dutch impedes the use of my English undecided )

All I said was that new posters on this thread wouldn't have read what you posted before in relation to the "roolz" of CAMC.  Just to be clear, this is what you posted and what I responded to:

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve explained why, in line with its governance, the club has no need to consult members before making changes.🤷🏻‍♂️

I made no reference at all to the fact of whether or not new members bother to read any rules and regs, merely the fact that new posters wouldn't have read any of your posts prior to this thread.

Hope that clears up any misunderstanding.

Not really bothered wether you understand or not ET. Many members including ourselves like to book well in advance, that is all that matters. For that we need a reliable functioning booking system.

You would still have to scroll back 132 months and book them in as a child as it validates the dob being over 18 for an adult

That depends on what device you are using. It takes seconds on an iPad using safari, as you get a scroll wheel for the years and months. Clearly they have not tested adequately on all platforms / browsers.
