We need more basic facility sites

My post was saying that people appeared in agreement and I was pleased with that response.
Stamford was a bit of a favourite being so close.
I don't think there is anything to differ about I don't know where the land will come from either but the club no doubt have a department to look into that. That is their job not the members.

How do you suspect that Arch? where do those likes come from if not regular posters of CT? I could check if you want but I would say that many of those are, if not all? In any case I can think of more than 6 regular posters.
But in any case are you really saying 17 likes on CT v hundreds of thousand of club site users (not members) is a good unbiased representation of them?
As I see it those in favour are older retired who may just want cheaper prices?
woops up to 20 now really with that level of support changes should be happing soon?

We used Hexham Trax site. and we were welcomed as everyone else , lucky for us we were sheltered from the storm we had one night and several vans were damaged the warden got the race course to open up one of their buildings to use as a refuge for any one to use

A simple question (may have already been answered, I haven't read through the 14 pages of posts!) -
Why is it so vital that "The Club" provide these facilities from new given the huge number of basic CLs which already exist (not to mention the "better/cheaper" commercial sites so often mentioned)?
And as a follow up, given the cost of acquiring and developing the land for such new "basic" sites, has anyone suggested an idea of when they might start paying for themselves to recoup that cost.
(No axe to grind here, a non member and non van owner - as has been pointed out many times - just a genuine request for information.)

That really has been totally missed out, land I suspect would be quite expensive and I assume all sorts of planning permission needed to build from scratch, either use money for that or installing metering?
It's probably easier to buy an existing campsite as the last few new club sites have been, but again maybe more expensive? either way it is going to cost.
Agree about the CLs too and pointed out that for every club site there are plenty of nearby CLs and of course other sites, but it would appear it has to be under the banner of the club.

What are you not wanting GT, the easy life or the more basic sites?

In relation to basic non facility sites, if it is in the right place we would use it, indeed we will be using one shortly. However, I can understand the club not wanting to subsidise them if they are not paying there way. Unlike a supermarket which might sell a product at a loss to keep folk coming in and not switching to the opposition, the club realise they are unlikely to loose membership as a result, because it is required to access the CL network.

The Club doesn’t have to buy land and build from new though M to pay lip service to budget touring.
It spent millions on Cayton Bay, which isn’t very far from its other Scarborough Site. Yet it didn’t see fit to consider putting in a single eco pitch either in the further millions spent to Club-clone Cayton, or to consider any at West Ayton. All that money spent but not enough to fund a couple of strips of tarmac to help those less well off on a budget. But a survey tells them they need to put signs on a door so folks know what’s in there🤷♀️ I do wonder at some of the thinking at times at HQ🤔
As for recouping costs, I have lost count of the number of years since the Club bought land in Bristol. (Millions spent no doubt) And still hasn’t achieved planning permission, let alone any sign of an income return on this investment.

Possibly, but that's just speculation isn't it, assuming these sites would be well used. I was really hoping for something more definite. And, although CLs are, apparently, being fully used, is that because more of them are providing "facilities"?
Again, just posing the question.

Thank you it's nice to know others think £30+ is no longer VFM.
Yes £20 is my current limit but it has to have facilities or be in great location.
First 2 weeks of October are usually the half term in these parts of Scotland, it might drift into wek 3 in some other parts. Here in Perth and Kinross they get 2 weeks, not sure about other areas.

It has been pointed out on here before that more and more CLs are going upmarket, HS, EHU (with or with metering) facilities...why is this?

Just been reading an article about a pub (I know, it's not a caravan site) that has closed its doors due to the cost of energy.
Apparently their current contract has just expired! They had been paying around £13K a year but the cheapest contract they were offered going forward was £72K! No cap on commercial energy prices!
If this type of price increase is inflicted on sites I can see the prices skyrocketing and more and more people going the non-EHU route.

And could it be that their prices are rising, as discussed in another thread, because the owners are providing more facilities?
More facilities = more customers but also = higher costs? 🤷🏻♂️
Despite that equation, they seem to be providing what many folk want.

To M😁, I’d hazard a guess and say it’s a bumper time at the moment for CLs, of all kinds. Touring generally is booming still, there are some CLs in stunning locations that warrant a price to match, even if they don’t offer much in the way of facilities. Likewise, there are some beautifully presented CLs, with more than basic facilities, that give more exclusivity and VFM than any Club Site, even if in the £25-30 range. A lot of CLs use something else, such as pods, shepherds huts, B&B, cottages to give even more options for non touring family and friends. We are paying around £5 a night more for a CL at the moment, but this doesn’t equate to the hike in electrical prices, as some are non hook up. It’s just “market forces” at work. £8 for a no hook up two years ago, same site, no hook up is now £13, and you will be lucky to get a pitch it’s that busy!

Agree, I was thinking across a couple of threads talking about prices, hook ups, basic sites. Sorry😁

We have used 2 non facility sites this summer.
Englethwaite Hall and Dockray Meadow. Both are a bit of a drive on narrow roads. Both of them were almost full on the nights we stayed and on both occasions it was mid week, not the busy weekends.
I agree with you that these sites are wanted by the members, OK not all of the membership but not all of the membership want SPs on sites but the club still install them.
The club has a big membership of varying ages, some want one thing while others want something completely different. We ALL have the right to make our voices heard.

Are both those sites what Harry has in mind?
I though it was basic sites like High Onn all in for £17, or even without EHU, the two sites you mention are more than that and the only difference is that they are club sites without facilities? In fact EH is all HS and has SP as well. DM is all HS, is that what you call basic?
If that what Harry wants there are plenty of these sites already there?
Btw Englewaite Hall comes in today at over your limit you stated?
And of course it would be almost full over the summer that proves nothing, especially this summer when other sites were actually full, but there is plenty of pitches available till June next year while some sites with facilities and SP are already showing quite full over September and for Easter.

I would say not Harry, based on the number of likes you claimed:
It just goes to show then that basic and low cost sites are in demand.
But you have appeared to dismiss all the posts that are not in your favour, have you heard their voices? Or did you even acknowledge them in any way? That their view was just as valid as yours perhaps?
