Fair enough, as long as everyone, ("ALL of us") are afforded the same courtesy. smile

"I agree with you that these sites are wanted by the members, OK not all of the membership but not all of the membership want SPs on sites but the club still install them."

I think this demonstrates that the club is providing a variety of 'site experiences' so that there is something for everyone.

One can only assume that they have established the proportion of non fac sites or SPs needed based on their own research and records of booking and occupancy which is likely to be more comprehensive than the views of the few of us posting here.

For instance, I really like the Stover non fac site which I've found to often be quiet and under occupied, especially in July and August. It could be said that the number of unsold pitch nights points to low demand and I can see why the club would be reluctant to provide more such sites if they are under-utilised. It’s a case of balancing supply and demand and, clearly, the club does not see things the same way as those people asking for more non fac sites. I’m not saying the club has it right or wrong but putting forward a reasoning for why things might be the way they are.

Are they complaining, Kj? I thought this thread was about the provision of more basic sites.🤷🏻‍♂️

...but not all of the membership want SPs on sites but the club still install them...

But at best it's 30% of pitches are SP on sites that have them, and while the club does install them there is no need at all to book one and pay the extra £5 unless you want to, but of course they do go quicker and are often fully used.

I think Harry has answered your first question. 😊

EH was used in the middle of June and was well below my £30 threshold. So not the height of summer.

DM was used in August and also below £30, we could have used any of the sites in the same area (lakes) ALL had availability but we like the peace and quiet if DM.

£30 threshold? where did that come from, you said it was £20?

Thank you it's nice to know others think £30+ is no longer VFM.

Yes £20 is my current limit but it has to have facilities or be in great location

Or do you have differing thresholds for summer and off peak? Also £30 is quite close to £30+ isn't it? A little confusing I must admit

Anyway no matter really and no need to answer TG as I've said many times what you consider the limit is is totally up to you, I'm not concerned as you said about mesmile

The Club has all sorts of anomalies with its basic provision. Not all are £17 a night sites, Marazion has always been a tiny bit more, even though it’s all grass, with no facilities, that’s possibly it’s location down in Cornwall. But I class anything without a loo block as basic. Even if it has a few serviced pitches, or hook ups. That’s basic to me.

I am trying to think of all that have gone in last few years.

But it would be interesting to the percentage of members who book them purely to secure a hardstanding, if there was a pitch surface type option would they have just chosen a standard hardstanding, I have booked a H/S pitch just to make sure we didn’t end up on a grass pitch and didn’t even use the tap or drain !

A good question HD. Well on the last seven (different) sites where I've used SP all the rest were HS so that certainly wasn't a reason on those sites but well could be HD.

Also it will be academic soon as one will be able to book a pitch type, or transfer over to a HS as soon as the new booking system comes on line in a few weeks (Yes I know it probably won't but that's another thread)

The provision of non-EHU pitches is even less! If you're lucky you might find 6 or so pitches and only about a fiver less than standard!

From my post earlier on there are 19 sites with non EHU, some sites are I believe all non EHU?

But yes hopefully metering will take place soon, but I think a few years down the line?

I read with interest the posters regarding non EHU pitches. Given that all Caravans and motorhomes need some sort of power. What is the saving in cost from not being on an EHU compared to the extra gas usage. Especially given the recent shortages in the supply of Calor gas. Also, when we had the recent heatwave the gas required to keep a fridge going must have been significant.

It’s a good question KB, but there’s unlikely to be a definitive answer, given just how variable outfits can be, what kind of alternative power source/set up owners might invest in, how much time you spend in your outfit, what appliances you use, what time of year you tour.

We have a small MH, nothing fancy added to it except that it came with a solar panel already fitted when we bought it. Our fridge is quite small, and we don’t take long showers. We have a gas cooker and oven, use gas kettle, don’t take a TV, and I can easily survive without a hair dryer. We charge our phones and iPads up on the road. So we could very easily do a week or more, even with small gas cylinders like ours, without a hook up. We have done this regularly, but we have a historical touring background that stretches to a time before onboard fridges, fancy plumbing systems, and are happy basic camping like this in the Summer months. Winter is something different, then we do prefer a hook up, but we still don’t need a facility block. Others with larger, super equipped outfits, large fridge freezer, microwave, computerised this and that, they probably need more in the way of gas and things like inverters for the solar panel. But lots of folk invest in this, and want cheaper pitches.🙂

I think 30% is being generous its less than 15% in Devon and Cornwall being so few it's no surprise most are booked.

You are not the first to have done so, a number of people have said as much on CT over the years.

Until we are given a choice we will not know for sure how many do it.

The Membership will have the opportunity to choose HS or Grass shortly, once the new deposit scheme comes into play. As I understand it, there’s to be £1 difference between a HS and grass, with grass being the cheaper. Whether it’s to be a £1 discount, or £1 extra, I am not sure🤷‍♀️

No I've just looked, there at least four down there with SP, Carnon Downs look to have more SP than standard. You're well catered for, but a little off topic sorry.

How will we know when we're given a choice TG?

    Also you posted:

To put this back on topic, £30 + for a patch of gravel is in my book expensive. yet £30 inclusive isn't for you? like I said that's the definition of a limit. I like it.

    Sorry for going onsmile

My money is on it being £1 extra for a hard standing.

I tend to agree DT, current Club mindset is to add, rather than subtract. By the time the new deposit scheme goes live, the prices could have totally reset……….

    £1 extra for tarmac/pebbles/anything that’s not a mudbath

£1 extra for enough space to put an awning up/swing a cat

£1 extra to Bath the dog/clean the bike*

£1 extra to book a pitch direct with site*

£1 extra to arrange a supermarket delivery to site gates*

*not currently under consideration, but it’s only a matter of time🤣

The truly frightening one will be if October’s energy cap rise has the Club considering a further addition to pitch prices.

    1. Once we can book a H/S pitch maybe we will get a better idea of how many folk previously booked a SP to guarantee a H/S. It's been voiced on here that folk do it so if they do they will no longer have to once we get a choice.

    2. I have no idea what you are on about so cannot give you a reply. 😕

    Goodnight.

24 now, going up faster than gas and electric prices😉

the absolute number might not mean a lot (to you) but 24 likes on an OP these days is a lot and clearly shows support.

What a shame that Harry's thread has now degenerated into a silly game of likes which are meaningless in the context they are being used.

His is a serious post which I sympathise with, although I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell of more non-fac sites appearing other than if fac blocks on other sites are closed due to unsustainability.
