I agree. The magazine used to be really for the caravan/motor home folk for years, Now it’s disappointing, I quite liked Centre News with Rally lists. ( We visited some amazing places when belonging to North London Centre years ago... Southwold Denes on the beach in August, Knebworth House, Hatfield House, Broughton Castle, Henley by the River during the Regatta !! happy times) The worst part of the magazine are the pages of terrible adverts ‘We Want Your Caravan’ .... yes they pay for advertising but really, it’s now like some cheap rate paper.

I'm not sure where the magazine fits into this discussion but you can opt out of receiving it in My Preferences. It saves the effort of putting it in the recycling bin and you can still view it online if you feel the need.

Having read all recent comments on pricing etc I have to agree with the majority and add my voice of concern of the creeping cost increases across most / all CMC club sites in comparison to good CLs or independents. We are undertaking something of a UK tour next year and I am currently putting our itinerary together and have been shocked at the CMC club site costs for out of season booking - over £40 per night in early Easter and over £50 later in the summer for a motorhome and 2 adults. Good independents and the other club can be a few miles down the road and charge half this and include WiFi which the CMC want £4 a night for!! Not sure I will be renewing my membership if I can reinvest the money in cheaper sites that seem to be just as good!!!

Although we have found the other club a fair bit cheaper, this is because we are eligible for the Age Related Discount. On the one site we stopped on in summer peak, when it is not available, the price was fractionally higher than the nearest CAMC site. Basically for younger members I don’t think there is a lot of difference and even for us the maximum was £8 a night. £22 a night rather than £30, certainly not half.
However, we have liked all the other clubs sites we have stayed on and when the playing field is levelled by the introduction of deposits by this club, we will almost certain use more.2 -

That's at the moment, probably because there are so few non-EHU pitches, but should the system change then there could be many more willing to do without EHU and save some money.

Am I correct in saying that with the CCC you can opt out with EHU? And yet hardly anyone does? Ready to be corrected here.

It’s not exactly an opt out, Corners. There is an option to book (grass?) pitches without EHU but it costs extra to book a pitch with HS and/or use of the hook up bollard. It’s not possible to have a with lekky pitch but choose not to use the hook up.

How do you know hardly anyone does?
It is difficult to judge because many sites do not give the opportunity to go without EHU. If the numbers attending the shows (in the thousands per show) is anything to go by there is a large percentage of owners quite happy to do so, I have used quite a few venues this year without EHU when there was the opportunity and I have just booked an off grid CL for my next trip out. I can see this being increasingly desirable when the predicted rise in electricity cost is reflected in pitch prices. I'm expecting another email from the Club any day now annoucing an increase.
If your outfit is equipped with facilities why pay for what you do not need?

I think the non EHU movement will grow fast in the future purely as a way to lessen the financial burden which can only be a good thing👍🏻

We've done three non ehu holidays this year, although we've saved a certain amount cost wise we've done it more for the ambience on these sites. A lot quieter, in good spots, basically just more relaxing than some of the other options and quite pleasant to go back to basics. The good weather in the SW completely synched it! 🌝
We're off to a "proper" site soon but it's also one where no ehu is an option and is also very popular.
The CAMC site format doesn't always appeal to us so we're enjoying other providers.
PS We love non ehu Steamer Quay but we are aware CAMC is itching to upgrade it even though it's so popular!

I think the good weather bit is the key. Many folk who use CAMC sites also use expensive Calor, or Calor type refills. That might be offset to some extent by the lower prices off peak, but the price is still fairly high for September and two weeks of October half term. Get some colder weather and the fridge and heating will eat up a significant amount of expensive gas, particularly if you want to use your own facilities and also heat water. Anyway realistically what sort of discount is the CAMC going to give? £5 / 6 at most I suspect.

The C&CC discount is currently £6.50 , the C&MC is much less and is one of the most miserly. I have seen it as much as £10 but if site owners are honest about the future increases, the discounts will get even higher. Those off grid sites and those with meters can just carry on as normal and surely will become more popular? If you hav refillable gas tanks the price is not that bad. I paid 72.9p a litre last Friday.

Of the 14 sites I used , only 4 were Club sites with EHU of course as there was no choice. Of the other 10, 6 were off grid and included two C&CC THSs.
As Steve says the weather was key, I would have probably been forced onto hard standing electric pitches had it been wet.

My best estimate of gas used when off grid is 3 litres per day costing about £2.20. It is therefore much cheaper than paying for electricity in the summer months. In the winter there probably isn't a lot of difference.

Here’s a sobering statistic for anyone looking to use a Club Site, but do it with the option using a non EHU pitch. I have just checked through all thirteen of Yorkshire’s varied Club Sites, (large, small, coastal, moorland, town and city based. Old and New.)
There isn’t a single non EHU pitch on any of the Sites. So clearly the Club isn’t giving any visitors to Yorkshire, wanting to use a Club Site, any option whatsoever. Everyone books a pitch with a bollard, and you pay the price as though you are hooked up.
(It was a quick check, so if someone else finds such a pitch, (other than a tent pitch) I stand corrected.)
The Club’s current mantra is “you can have a choice, but the choice is ours”

The going rate here in Cornwall on privately owned sites is something like £4 a day extra if you choose to use the hook up. It’s quite common to be offered the choice. Court Farm near St Austell with 30 pitches is an example.
