What about over there visitors? does ANPR work with those?

My apology, Corners. It’s a generally accepted term amongst those MH-ers who tow cars.
Say it out loud - toad/towed 🐸😀
On tow it will bear the MH's reg but travelling solo it will show its own reg.

Thank you

Yes, the Clachan unless changed recently is run by volunteers.
As said perfect site to trial ANPR, Maragowan is less than a mile away but its a pain having to go there first to go through the booking in process then drive back out up the road and check in there.
When we passed recently it was quite busy and why not at half the price of Maragowan.
We like the none facility sites, wish there were more.

No worries at all, yes I meant those with foreign registration plates.

...and it doesn't matter which country you come from...👍

Quite a few exceptions actually if you look at some what car parking companies/makers of such things say on their websites, anything non standard may not be read.
Still I'm sure the club will have looked into that to ensure it will work.
Post edit, the company they are working with is here

Good point and I assume there will be a link with the app at some point, but again a signal will be needed.

I think the major problem initially will be members arriving at Clachan before 13:00, and they will even if they have been informed not to, as you all well know. The road is rather narrow and the entrance, if it has not been moved further into the site, could accommodate only one car/caravan. There is another entrance to the lodges just a few metres down towards Killin which would be obstructed by those queuing up to get on the club site. I can envisage some very disgruntled visitors to those lodges wanting access/egress.

Edit.
Have just looked at the satellite view of the entrance and it is a single road in to both the site and the cabins, but it is deeper than I remembered, and I think that it will still be a problem should there be more than a couple of units waiting to access the site.

Simple answer is for the barrier to open and let them in. Yes before 1 pm. Even at breakfast time if there’s space inside.
There’s a multi storey car park I use now and then -the system there knows if there’s space inside, and if there is then the barrier opens and lets me in. It doesn’t make me wait till 1 pm.
Clachan club site has vacancies every day for the next three weeks. If there’s space inside at Clachan customers need not be forced to wait. Let the ANPR system do it’s stuff.
And when it rolls out to other small sites then no more problems for wardens who are eating their lunch before they open up.
Revolution is happening.

It's not a great comparison, Euro. Car park attendants don't need to cut grass, sweep up chippings, clip hedges or clean hook up bollards so of course they can have a quicker turnover of one out, one in.
An even simpler answer is for people not to turn up early.

As Steve and DD have mentioned earlier, the CCP system lets folk in with a card and the availability is there for all to see on the app, just like a campsite, incl CAMC.
If there's a space, you can go in...the clock starts ticking and you pay for the time you're there, just like the car park ET mentions....and many, many others.
at these establishments, there's no 'warden/office' to let you in, nor to pay, yet everyone pays for what they use..and there's no queuing because there's no arrival time.
folk enter CCP and barrier controlled car parks when they arrive.Even with a change to upgraded technology, it's still the 'bow wave' that causes the most problems.
'revolution' would mean a change to a free flow system where customers get what they want and technology enables it...
can you imagine a city car park where everyone has to wait until a certain time before they can get in..
folk have mentioned many times that some sites, in other places, don't have a queuing problem because folk trickle on and off site throughout the day. The objection has always been that CC couldn't possibly etc as it means having a manned office all day...
well ANPR and a sensible card billing process would eliminate that, and the queues.
the system knows the spaces, the customer has a card, the barrier knows the customer, the customer gets in and subsequently billed...
revolutionary, I know....😉

There are many sites on this clubs network that do not have a queue at 1300 each day or even the weekend , it depends how popular and size of each site
It's just like multi storey car parks in some areas with. the queue of vehicles waiting for a space that will lift the access barrier

Well, I guess there just no pleasing some folk, BB. The club takes a step forward by starting a trial of something you and others have been pushing for years yet still you tell us it's not enough and go into great detail of the better ways it could be done.
I think we all get it that things are done differently overthere - goodness knows, you've told us often enough.

Whilst under the current system I think a strictly enforced 1pm arrivals is the best policy. This new technology if it works, without causing more problems than it solves, does throw up some interesting possibilities for the future.
As the system will know when folk leave and pitches of different types become free, why not market those at the last minute to those wanting to arrive early. £5 flat fee payable on an App and your early arrival is secured.😀 If hedge trimming or something else is required before a new arrival, those particular pitches could be removed from the early arrival system.0 -
Like yourself, I am happy to just drive onto a site and am not bothered if no-one is there to greet me. I stayed at the North Yorkshire Moors site last month (a large site with no facility block) and there was an envelope with my name on in a box outside reception, asking me to choose a pitch and check in later. Fine by me and a really lovely, very well kept site with very pleasant Wardens. Why some people need to have face to face contact as soon as they arrive on a site, is a mystery to me.

ANPR has been around since the 1980’s, revolutionary-approx 40yrs ago really?.

Maybe options-std £20, std+(met at gate with flowers)£30, gold std(met at gate with flowers then taken to pitch by flag waver) £50😊

Like yourself we are happy to sort ourselves out. However, I don’t find it particularly surprising that other folk prefer a more hands on approach. We are all different, some more confident than others. For some of the arrivals it might be there first time on a CAMC site, or even there first outing with a caravan in tow / driving a MH. Others might require some assistance because of a disability.

Trialing ANPR does seem to be a good idea. And doing so at a small site that is in effect a satellite of a larger site is a sensible place to try it out. I just hope that the trial is not jepordised by the physical location.
At present new arrivals have to attend at the 1/2 mile away Maragowan site's office which has a bit of space before the barrier (and a LNA area) and most new arrivals have to drive around that site to get back onto the highway and approach the Clachan site heading east. The road there (and all around the area for miles) is narrow and busy but new arrivals appearing singly and spaced in time will have no trouble entering the site.
With ANPR, arrivals may not be so well spaced out and some blocking of the road could occur as a convoy gains access. That problem will be much worse if a new arrival appears before 1 p.m. - whether or not they are pre-booked. No space to wait; those heading east will have to travel many miles to turn, those heading west might get turned in village of Killin, but the Caravan Club Maragowan site is probably the safest.
I don't see the local authority or the police being happy to allow outfits to queue on the road in view of the chaos it will cause to the local traffic. I fear the Caravan Club could be forced to abandon the trial early by the authorities.

You've made this comparison before and has someone else mentioned you're not towing then? And if you did find a car park like that opened at 1pm maybe you wouldn't turn up early?
Again you don't use club sites, and say you won't yet have all these ideas how they should be run?

That's interesting we did work with these systems and know the company you mentioned. It's taken a long time to refine developments for specific situations. They're not fail safe. It's a good idea to try these things but whether it actually improves the customer experience on a camp site remains to be seen. There are quite a few other factors involved in arriving at a camp site!

“I don't see the local authority or the police being happy to allow outfits to queue on the road in view of the chaos it will cause to the local traffic. I fear the Caravan Club could be forced to abandon the trial early by the authorities.”
If you are causing an obstruction on the road then it is a traffic offence. The police can then book you for the offence and you pays your fine. I don’t know if you can get penalty points or not, I dare say some one on here will know
