I think if they have put it on hold Ttda they should now open up bookings for next year. Not fair on those that like to plan well ahead.

The club haven't exactly covered themselves in glory with the way they've handled the whole affair but I'm not holding my breath for any sort of humble pie apology.

I suppose it depends on what the delay is. If its likely to be operational by, shall we say, the end of September, I could understand not adding more bookings to the system as inconvenient as that will be to some. On the plus side at least those wanting to book further ahead can be confident no one else is booking either so they are in exactly the same position as everyone.

Could it be that it is  the volume of bookings already on the system that is delaying the switch over? So by delaying it to sometime in September would mean all the summer bookings would be off the system and not adding new ones also helps make the system lighter? I could see the sense of that but unfortunately we are not being given any information which is frustrating.

Didn't JK say that there was a group of people doing the migration, I think it was quite a while back?

Perhaps the CAMC might consider doing what they promised…..

“We'll continue to share our progress”

Then there wouldn’t be any need for speculation or leaks of insider information.

There's nothing official to share SteveL. As you know, some posters on here revel in sharing internal comms. which shouldn't be made public. That's not speculative, just one upmanship.

Totally agree.  Honesty is the best policy; I find it almost insulting to all members that there has never been any official update.  I'm sure that if there had been updates, whether positive or negative, it would have been appreciated.  But this ongoing farce of being told that the new system will go live on...... (input date of choice from past posts), then nothing happening on that day without any explanation, is IMHO amateurish.  Keeping people informed is key.

It’s the lack of evolving or ‘bury your head in the sand’ syndrome. If someone asked how to destroy a once proud company I’d say-‘follow the C&MC blueprint’ make promises with no intention of honouring, repeat promises regularly, increase costs but decrease offerings. Make it hard for the very customers you have to communicate with you. Offer an online presence that is 20years behind the competition. Yet expect the mushrooms to keep rejoining every year loyally to get pretty much the same as the previous 5yrs☹️

Just wondering if you are getting a lot of questions from members on site or is just on here and Facebook where most of the questions are being asked? I imagine that if you are being inundated you feed this back?

There has never been any other intension but to give some information to interested posters ,of what you and others have been lacking from those who at the start of the new system fiasco said members would be kept informed surprised

But as has been proved so many times,  updates to members on nearly all the problems of this and other activities that should be given to members us very much a" close to chest"attitude that is in this modern world that some keep reminding people of completely the sign of "trouble at the top "undecided

nothing that was posted was any but as you and others tried to deride straight from sources that even some site staff were not aware of😏👍

It is hard to see that the problems just lie with the writing of code, after all these can be quickly corrected with skilled writers. There has to be more to it but it is also hard to understand why the Club is so secretive about it all when as Steve has pointed out the membership would be kept informed of progress.

This is not as easy as people seem to think, there are lots of different types of hardware platforms out there and lots of different programmes written in lots of different languages and as far as i know nobody on this forum knows what is in use now or going forward, and the club might not wish to disclose this to the public at large as some of it will be commercially sensitive, and some of the competition are probably rubbing their hands with glee just now as every day lost in rolling the new booking system out could mean a loss of business for the club in 2003.

Rolling out a new system and making sure all the old information is ported across and is accessible is not easy and I am sure the club has lots of information stored away that is still very relevant and must be accessible on the new system.

We should also remember that the club is a 24x7x365 business so not easy to shut everything down at 1600 hrs on a Friday roll out a new system and  be up and running by 0900 hrs Monday morning.

We know the club is hopeless at giving out accurate information, and no doubt somebody has had their knuckles wrapped for a. not delivering on the new system and b. announcing its arrival when clearly it is not ready for this big world.

Husky, you mean like this information I received in an email on the 12th July eleven days and counting ago.😂

Existing bookings will shortly be moved over to our new booking system

As you may know, we’ve been busy looking at how we can make it easier for everyone to plan and book UK holidays with us online. We’re pleased to advise that your new online UK booking experience is launching very soon, which includes the introduction of deposits and the ability to pre-book specific pitch types.

To ensure a seamless transition, any existing UK Club campsite bookings will be automatically moved over to our new booking system in a few days' time. Rest assured, any existing bookings remain confirmed and all details will stay the same with existing booking terms and conditions being applicable and no deposit required (payment will be due on arrival at the site).

However, if you wish to make changes to an existing booking after it has been moved over, there is some important information we’d like to share.

Please read our frequently asked questions for full details.

"I think if they have put it on hold Ttda they should now open up bookings for next year. Not fair on those that like to plan well ahead."

Good idea WN, but it would just make life even more difficult as there would be even more information to port over to the new system before it went live and then you are always playing catch up., little point in making a new system "live" if half the information is missing.

They could at least come clean about the delay and open up the second part of May half term, to allow members to complete partial bookings. Bookings will still be being made for dates through to the end of May which will need transferring across.

A post by the club in very simple terms about what is happening either way would be very welcome.

Something along the lines of:  while doing trial runs of the new system several unforeseen operating errors has surfaced, in order to give you the best possible booking experience we do not want to launch the new booking system until these have been thoroughly resolved. We apologise for this but...  in the mean time...

Have you ever considered coming out of retirement MrC🤔, with the thought of teaching companies how to effectively communicate with the folk who help to pay the wages?

Yes, Corners, it would be polite and the least they could do to publish something along the lines you suggest. I despair at times.

I stil don't understand this fixation many members have with booking many months ahead. I would have thought that retirees in particular are flexible with their dates.

Would it not be better to check the weather forecast and then locate a site. I certainly would not want to pay £35 - £40 a night and then find out the weather will be awful.

You don’t really need to understand it. The fact is some of us do like to plan ahead. Given that when the bookings come online the playing field will be levelled, some members may feel it is not worth waiting and go elsewhere. I fear the CAMC are throwing away both long term reservations and goodwill.

Given that in general weather forecasts are only any good for 5 days, what you suggest wouldn’t be the best for a tour containing 16 consecutive sites.

If you do not book a tour well in advance   it then gets more difficult as sites get booked up for some of the days needed

That does not work if you are putting together a tour, but fine if just going somewhere for a few nights.

Living up here, beyond Glasgow, most trips mean booking a tour lasting 3-6 weeks, which takes a good deal of planning if it includes any part of a school holiday period, and even CLs get booked up well ahead at those times.

We are "retirees", but have volunteered to provide childcare for our daughter's 2 little ones 2 days per week in school term, so have to plan ahead, swap days with the other grandparents, and even go away in the school holidays now.  It is a bit limiting, but we love spending time with the children.
