Hunters Moon
All BBQs inc gas are banned at this site till further notice, even as it’s not a problem at the site next fire at Wareham Forest Tourist Park, take my word for it, stay away as the fun police are working here!
I expected the charcoal BBQs to be banned but banning gas BBQs is crazy, I’ve rang and visited all local sites including CMHC site’s and gas is fine, come on warden sort it for us before our entire holiday is ruined!

Anything with a flame is a fire hazard. We live next to a (now cut) wheatfield the stubble could go up in flames and endanger everyone around. Understanding the dangers is vital. I'm sure most people would grasp this basic knowledge, Hunters Moon is surrounded by tinder dry woodland and vegetation. The recent rain has hardly touched the surfaces.

It could be said that this is a responsible action on the part of the site staff. Did you ask the wardens about it?
I think you would be better off contacting the club's sites dept if you’re not happy as it’s very unlikely anyone from the club will react to a forum post. However, I have reported your post to the Community Manager in the hope that she may bring it to the attention of the appropriate staff for you.

It sounds as if the site have banned outdoor cooking, no doubt to reflect the dangers they see locally. The local site staff should be your first port of call for an explanation although in the current very dry conditions it's hardly a surprise.

Instead of coming on. CT and having a rant how about contacting the sites department at East Grinstead House and ask for clarification of what the reasoning for such a ban if you have already received a negative reply from site staff

That's strange as the site is deep within Wareham Forest and I doubt whether CAMC insurers would want the club to add to any risks to life and limb. All parties would legally have to consider the risks involved whether they are in or out of the defined public areas.

I think it's a sensible precaution taken by site staff no matter if it's in or out of a certain area, better safe than sorry.
I'm not into BBQ's but would it really ruin a holiday? I can think of worse things that would on a caravan holiday, heavy rain, mud, high winds, awning being ripped, no EHU for long periods, no faculties open for more than a day, breakdowns...

Or a raging fire all round and/or within the site!!

Evening
We had a brief around a week ago that all charcoal bbq's are to be banned until further notice. We were also to conduct an additional (already do one every 6 months) site specific fire risk assessment which would decide what if any extra measures were needed. It's entirely up to the site staff if they allow any outside actions that involve a naked flame. Better to be safe than sorry, a missed bbq isn't going to ruin anyone's holiday. We had a near miss last weekend, there was a gorse fire less than a mile away and the breeze was our way. Thankfully the as usual our brilliant fire service here controlled it in a couple of hours.

Smoking is currently banned on our golf course. Not sure it has ruined anybody’s round though.

Without knowing that the hot weather was coming, last year I bought an electric outdoor cooking device from Aldi. It consists of a cast plate on top of a heating element. Works great without a flame - and with very little burning. Has a stand and side tables for stuff, just like a flaming barbecue.

I've got to agree with this - particularly the second paragraph; it is exactly what I thought when I read the OP; but I wasn't brave enough to say so, so I'll stand full square behind Corners. I honestly could not get my head round how not being able to have BBQs would "ruin" a holiday.
I like BBQs for eating; I love that charred taste, especially if it is decent meat and not cheap beef burgers. But I hate them on sites and never do them myself. I hate that I have to close all my windows, even in stifling weather, to avoid my whole van stinking of BBQ smoke for the next 24 hours. One has to tolerate them, but anything that curbs their use is good news to me. That's heresy for some, I know.
On a more serious front, given the publicity encouraging the need for all of us to be ultra careful in these drought ridden times, it seems to make sense to me to ban any form of BBQ.
