Calor Gas shortage
I was having a problem changing my 6 kg light propane bottle i tried 6 retail outlets in the Swindon area all out of stock, i telephoned the calor area office in Newbury to be told there was a shortage, and that the calor light cylinder had been discontinued because it leaked and tended to buckle and it was not cost effected to rectify the problem.i asked if my light cylinder would be accepted in exchange for the heavier cylinder and was told it was up to the retailer . I then asked if there were any plans to replace the light cylinder and was told not at present .

No shortage of Calor gas but that particular cylinder is no longer in production. Different sizes and shapes of Calor cylinders with butane or propane are available as exchanges - or start again with Flogas or a Safefill system if you prefer.

I've about 1/4 of a Calorlite bottle left and have been wondering what to do. My local, Red Lion Caravans of Southport told me on Thursday they were waiting on a delivery. Friday I noticed 5 or 6 bottles in stock for exchange. It would seem supplies are starting to make there way out.

Managed to swap a calor lite for a new 6kg of the same type yesterday. However the dealer did say that there is a rumour, and no more than a rumour at the moment, that Calor might withdraw the 4.5kg Butane cylinders in the not too distant future.
If they do then will swap Calor for something like Flogas
As I said it is only a rumour but keep an ear out for any news.

Evening
Indeed, that recall on 4.5 butane bottles ran into thousands jvb. Add that to the end of life 6 lites that is a lot of missing stock.
I managed to get a 6kg refill at Steamer Quay site last week, last one they had., but they are managing to get pretty regular supplies.

I needed a 4.5kg replacement and visited our local farmers merchants who normally have what I need. When I asked for a 4.5 kg replacement they told me that in spite of being on the order they’d had none delivered for a long time. We then spent time phoning around without success and when I spoke to the next site we are booked in at was told by the chap that calor supplies have been variable for the last two years. I then thought, let’s use Twitter and messaged Calor to get the following response.
We are sorry that you have experienced difficulty in obtaining a refill for the 4.5kg Butane cylinder, we do continue to fill and distribute the cylinder across the Calor network in aid of improving the availability and the circulation of the cylinder. However, we do not have details of who has stock as retailers do not share stocking levels with us via this channel so we are unable to provide you with a guarantee of where they can be purchased/exchanged.
Frankly, I’m amazed that the saga has lasted so long. Wherever I’ve been there have been empties awaiting collection so there must be something more fundamentally awry.
