CL Price Rises

It was a relatively popular site but never full when we visited, so it is hard to tell if the availability is due to the price rise or not, but there are not many sites in the area to choose from.

Interestingly, when we arrived at our current CL.....the one who told us the price would be going up from £15.......the owner said that the only things that had gone up for them were electricity costs and insurance costs.
They had waited till they got the new prices on those before deciding what the price would need to be. They had also had a visit from a CL inspector, and presumably discussed this with him, and he had agreed that £18 was a reasonable price for the facilities offered.
JVB.......I think a CL would not be needing a cess pit or septic tank emptied anything like as often as a larger site. Not sure what the drainage is here, but they do not ask for green chemicals to be used.

Like all things these days prices are subject to the area they are in, and the costs of those who service such areas , especially. with high fuel costs
Electricity charges are going up again and I would think that CLs and the like could well be on business rates,,so would not benifit from special rates
I am not saying that some may well be "cashing in" when in popular areas as with the NC 500 (I have read that other than tent campers some councils are this year going to crack down on any other type of the illegal use of the term "wild camping"

JV, you are speculating on a lot of things. Each CL is unique, in terms of location, costs to set up, budgeting for running, pricing policy of owners, etc….. Some are sole businesses, some are a small part of a much larger business, some are run via a very relaxed mode, others the owners monitor different aspects very carefully. Some have high overheads, some get the grass cut once a week. All very different.
As far as I am concerned, the owners offer and run them as they wish to do, whilst Members are free to pick and choose what provision they prefer, including facilities on offer and the prices charged. It’s this variety that makes them so attractive. There is literally a CL to suit everyone, be it in terms of facilities, location, price. Long may it be this way👍

I have been looking at availability on a lot of CLs that have automated booking systems. There is a lot of capacity at the moment, which surprised me a bit, although I suppose the economic uncertainty at the moment might be having an effect.
It was hard to find an empty CL last year, we were astonished to find even some of our remote, very basic field/tap/ find a space/ No EHU favourites were full. Not the same this year, we still aren’t booking anything more in front than night before off.

Covid could be causing problems once again. The rates are very high in some areas. Where we are in the Torbay area the numbers are high and hospitals are at capacity.
To make a solo CL viable the costs need to cover all eventualities.
On a CS this year we had to pay an extra £3 on top of the £18 previously advertised (to cover electricity prices.) As this was a very popular all year fishing site I suspect that there would be quite a draw on energy over the whole year.

One would imagine that a CL owner who goes to the bother of having electronic availability and booking facilities are quite business savvy? You would wonder what level of occupancy they would be aiming for? I suppose there are three core deciders on how successful a CL is. A) would be location, Facilities offered C) Price. The only one of those elements that flexible is price. Be interesting to see if there is a contraction in people using CL's whether the price is adjusted downwards? My bet would be that probably not?

Perhaps it's people using air conditioning units that added to the electricity costs?
Personally I don't think they should be used. Extra power and better for the planet. Just open the windows, or get a low wattage fan? After as you yourself once said said just because you're on holiday it doesn't mean you can forget about saving the planet.

Maybe, I don't think so but who knows for certain Kj? Don't CLs usually ban awning heaters? And anyway if so then this CL you're talking should? But the thing is you posted:
just because you're on holiday it doesn't mean you can forget about saving the planet
And now you proudly boast that you're using AC to the envy of your neighbours. It all adds up.

+1, we all need to be on the right side of history & using vast amounts of electricity for whatever reason is just plain wrong. Both aircon & heating units use a lot of power which is a persons choice but to choose one whilst denigrating another is not wise🤷🏻♂️

Have CL users changed so very much over the past couple of years since we last used them? I don't think I remember ever seeing an awning being heated on a CL and we'd surely have noticed them when walking the dogs out in the evening.
Not sure about A/C because of course that's not so visible.

In this heatwave, it makes sense to heed the advice on the media to try to stay cool.
The CL we have just left had plenty of shade, no need to use our air con, but the one with the "envious neighbour" had absolutely no shade, and we do not enjoy being baked, so the air con was in use there when required, not running constantly.
These last couple of weeks must be the hottest we have experienced here for a very long time, so use of the air con is not a regular occurrence now we are no longer venturing abroad.

Some interesting discussions and opinions on this post.
I will throw this site, just opened in June, into the pot to add to the debate

One can always justify anything to one's self Kj, but that's not the point really, use what ever you have to enjoy your holiday to the full, just give that same respect to others rather than criticise their actions.

Wow I see what you mean there Harry
They would have to pay me £35 to stay there!
Maybe the decimal point is in the wrong place?

Very close to a normal club site price for somewhere that doesn't even appear to have a toilet block. The location, whilst reasonable isn't outstanding. Notwithstanding its operating costs which, I presume, the owner has calculated, it seems to about double what one might expect for what is offered.

It’s a hay field with parking🤷🏻♂️, what justifies £35, I must be missing something. Do guests have access to the facilities in the house?, surely there’s a plus point here🤔

perhaps the 1pm earliest arrival time?

We know area well. That’s the most optimistic pricing I have ever seen for a CL🤣 (Even at the correct price of £25) You can possibly get breakfast in the B&B according to the webpage blurb. Superb location for anyone with an interest in potash mines.
Could be Yorkshire sense of humour I suppose. Hard to tell, there are no reviews.😉
Edit, in fairness, reviews for B&B are good.

I looked at your link around 9am, Harry, and it said £35 then.
I've never before know CAMC make a correction that quickly😄

Thanks for the heads up👍🏻. I agree £25 is still too rich for me. I was paying up to £20 3/4yrs ago but they had ponds, fire pits(free) toilets & chem points, copse(plural). Before anyone asks-Suffolk that’s all I can remember, I’ve got a mental picture re the site but not the name🤷🏻♂️
