Electric Hook Up Issue
Hi, a general question with no criticism implied - just curiosity.
We have stayed in four great club sites since March, great amenities but the power from the electric hook up doesn't seem quite right as none of the three power sockets we have in the campervan worked at each site. What makes this curious is we have stayed at rival club sites and the sockets work; they also work if I hook up at home. The habitation check is booked for August so I will mention it then but the issue only seems to be at Caravan & Motorhome Club sites?
Any ideas?

Are you twisting the plug when you connect to the bollard? Most CAMC hook ups require this to make the connection.
If in doubt, check with the site warden.

Yes good point, I have been on sites this year where you have to do that and other newer bollards where you don't, and also there is a red button to press in as well.

This one you pushed in to activate then pushed in again to deactivate.

It seems all the latest bollards trip mcbs need to be set when you plug in and they trip when plug removed ,
But as noted many motor caravaners tend just unplug from their LV and leave a live plug on the ground when going out or to the MC service point

Thanks we'll give a twist a go. We've only had the camper for 11 months and we're still learning! We will need to book a weekend away to try it out! We're off to France & Switzerland for a few days shortly so we'll see how it goes there.

Some people leave the cable in place but use the red button to disconnect the power and that can’t be seen without close inspection.

The latest ones do precisely that so newcomer has to energise the switch after inserting plug just as we are advised to do at home. A safety feature I’m told, also worth mentioning the convention that red on the breaker means danger-live, green means dead, safe to go plug in.

Just like a child possibly could?
One of my pet hates, live leads left lying around. I disconnect quite a few over the course of a week.

All about being responsible and taking away a risk peedee. No need for statistics, one incident would be too many. It takes a few seconds to disconnect that live lead.
I have in fact one instance of some youths playing with a connected lead to trip their friends up. Harmless fun with a 240 pulse!

Funny you should say that after our annual caravan service in March this year , I've had nothing but trouble with our EHU connection on a number of Cl sites.
It's been sorted eventually when I was advised by another member on one of the Cl sites to do a reset , in other words just disconnect & reconnect again.....and yes it worked.
At one point the reverse polarity light was illuminated on the electricity control box.
All 240v sockets have been confirmed working OK with a reliable socket check plug that would indicate any issues regard supply.
After never ever having any issue certainly with this caravan ,that we've had a decade now .

Yes, it’s a bit naughty and not good practice, but you’d have to lift the flap up and stick two wet fingers into the narrow pin sockets for there to be much danger
Which reminds me we use have a British standard articulated finger at the place I worked for many years to check that such deeds could not be carried out

The odd thing is the lights & pump worked and in two sites the fridge worked but the sockets didn't. In the last site the fridge didn't work either so I thought it was us with the problem. All works fine when plugged in at home.
Just seemed odd.

Lights and pump would have worked off 12v so you may have thought they were running from the EHU. The fridge would also have worked off 12v but only if it is a compressor fridge which might well be the case in a campervan.
In short, I suspect you were using your leisure battery to run those items rather than the mains hook up.
