We are catching the Portsmouth to St Malo overnight ferry soon and know we will arrive earlier than we need to.

We are overnighting at the C&CC site near Birmingham. We will have to depart there by 12.00.

Where in Portsmouth could we park up for a few hours, we are 2 motorhomes  largest is 7m in length.

The other alternative is where could we stop enroute for a couple of hours to amuse ourselves.

Grateful for any suggestions.

Park at Port Solent marina complex - ask  security for best place to park and tell them how long you are stopping - there are cafes , pubs and restaurants if you need refreshment before you go on board. Bon voyage .

That was our thought but wanted to see if it was feasable to park there. Thank you.

Yes, have used it before but many years ago.

We intend to eat before going on board. None of us like eating that late so before boarding is best.   Just go to cabin  get sorted then go and have a drink.

If you continue past the Port Solent car parks, you can park up at the end of the road along the seawall. No need to bother with contacting the Lock control then. The alternative to eating on board is to choose from one of the many restaurants at Port Solent assuming your check-in is sufficiently late.

Thanks CY, ferry sails at 20.15 latest time to check in is 18.45 so we will have plenty of time to get something to eat as we will be in Portsmouth around 16.00 depending on traffic.

All getting very real now, just finishing the last bits going in the van, fridge to go on to chill then I can stock it up for the journey down.

Hope it's better weather over there its drizzle here just now.

We’ve parked at Port Solent Marina many times, most recently at the beginning of April returning from Spain.  You only need to phone Security if you intend to stay overnight.

The first car park tends to be less busy and will more easily accommodate longer vans, but isn’t as level as the second car park. The second one, by the David Lloyd gym is usually busier, and has more “street furniture” making it a bit more difficult to find a double space for a 6m+ van.

The area at the end of the road near the MoD compound had what looked like several “semi-permanent” vans parked up.

(As an aside, there were several commercial vans with notices of removal (or else!) on them when I stopped off at the beginning of March but were gone when I returned)

Yes. Parking at Portsmouth ferry port will not be a problem at 1600 as the previous ferry will have left at 1445, but I only recall a basic bar and a Costacoffee upstairs in the terminal building at the port - so unless things have improved there are no facilities for getting a meal before boarding the ship in the evening.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, the plan is to go to Port Solent, given the space there we can park up and have a walk around also get something to eat before going on to the docks.

    Not long now.
