One issue regarding Calor is that you will be dealing not with them direct but with franchises and these may have slightly different policies across the country according to their situation and bottles that they have in stock. Some may allow swapping type others may not.

if you look at the quoted Calor website link that all important ‘subject to availability’ caveat is always included when it comes to swapping size and bottle types, a get out for the independent retailers! Contact those retailer is what they, Calor suggest. The club sites only supply through their local retailers, not Calor themselves. If you go direct to Calor you may have more luck in changing.

Anyone travelling on the M1 who wants LPG, just of junction 14 heading towards Milton Keynes, after the first round about, the Shell garage on the left has LPG at 72.9p per litre.

Could be a bit tight for large caravan outfits but I got in and out very easy with a 8 metre motrohome.

On this clubs site that do have calor (that is  usually bought and paid for by the site staff from their own pockets) I understand the reason it is normally like for like with cylinders is to maintain their stocks as originally bought from their local supplier

I thought all Shell garages had pulled out of LPG. Must be a franchise.

mylpg.eu is useless, it list all garages that sell L.P.G.

so all the garages like Shell and the ones with a contract with Calor who wont let you fill your bottle are listed their

Use the web sites that list where you can fill up, or you will get their and be told we don't allow the filling of cylinders

I think the days of petrol stations selling LPG may well be numbered.... the number of vehicles running on LPG will only get smaller.  However, DIY/ builders merchants/ companies that deal in gas etc , I think will continue to supply - they will still be out there....  places, like Carver's in Wolverhampton, Birmingham Auto Gas & LPG etc.  Even the camping outlets - I know that Jacksons of Arley (Coventry/ Nuneaton area) will now offer LPG.  It won't be as convenient as the local petrol station selling LPG, but it's perfectly doable using 'non-forecourt' suppliers.  It just takes a bit more planning, and for us, still makes using Safefill a really viable and weightsaving alternative.

It certainly is getting increasingly more difficult in my experience to find providers. A nightmare in some areas I’m told. However, Brownhills Motorhomes on the A1 Newark supply gas what’s more a ‘gas attendant’ will fill your tanks for you. Competitively priced at that.

I would like to use Safefill but am put off with the potential difficulties getting filled in the future.

In Essex I think I am stuck with just two options - Morrisons in Grays (and I suspect that will be at risk in the future) and a fuel company in Great Leighs (A D Fuels).  Just sounds too risky to invest the £200 in a new bottle.

Instead I think I'll be changing over the Homebase Gas Light Cylinders - I have a 5Kg and a 10Kg ready to go, along with the hose and adaptor to fit onto them.  Just need to check if the 10Kg fits in to my Coachman 575 ok.

There are apps available to check for places to fill. Not just garages but builders merchants, marinas, and other industrial outlets. The thing about refillables is that you fill them en route to somewhere, not necessarily where you live. FillLPG.co.ukmylpg.eu are the two main apps. The biggest plus is that you can get gas while abroad. Given the prices for exchange bottles, depending on your usage, recovery of the cost doesn't take long and you own the bottle, not the company.
