Saving a pitch as you are booking in

Good for you, Husky.
What rule are you referring to?

For “rule breaking “ the words I’ve used in inverted comers I should have used the word “scenario “
im just giving my opinion of this situation and as I said I’m really not bothered , there are enough pitches for everyone so why the rush to try and beat the queue

It is fact because I do it most if not all of the time unless I am short staying then I will have enough water on board anyway.. Thank goodness my next outing is to a site where all I have to do is pick up the site information and pitch allocation off the arrivals board.

+1, that is my method too. Book in, drive to empty pitch, Bosh-jobs a good un. No stress no worries👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻.

I see. I thought you’d discovered a rule I wasn’t aware of.

PD, you said "There is no difference between any of the meathods if you have paid and entered the site" but that is clearly opinion and your latest quoted post isn’t logical in that context.

You’d be surprised if it wasn’t opinion to others or if it wasn’t logical? Let me be the first to surprise you in either case😂😂

I’m sure you will.

While the thread still exists I'll introduce a further scenario of the driver who can only reverse onto a pitch on their right, who having chosen an empty pitch has to drive on somewhere and do a loop to approach the chosen spot from the opposite direction. Should they deposit a partner, cable, table or "Motorcaravan using this pitch" sign?

Not according to some of our esteemed members who just drive (and probably walk) the shortest route.

So do you reverse the Motorhome onto the pitch put the Motorhome using this pitch sign on the pitch then drive off to fill up and cause more congestion with all the arriving vehicles.
I would think it makes more sense to pay, at least the Motorhome is actually on site and then let other half take the sign and put it up.0 -
Finally, we all go to sites to relax and enjoy don’t we? We all, I trust, hope that all of our fellow members are, like us, entitled to the same and we would do nothing to spoil their experiences. So we queue, take our turn, we are polite and friendly. Then some one, three or four back in the queue, possibly, but not necessarily, even through the barrier deliberately jumps in front and stakes a claim without placing their unit on an unoccupied pitch. Not in the spirit at all. But there you are, it’s dog eat dog out there now it seems for some, look after yourself and jump over others at the possible cost of upsetting folk in order to get exactly what you want. It may not be a rule but it’s certainly been the etiquette I’ve witnessed practiced my the majority of us over the many years of brilliant membership.

That’s not my call, DT.

Just been catching up after 'working' today. Anyone reading this who has never been on a club site might think it's like the whacky races as soon as the moment you stop your outfit in the queue (which btw doesn't always happen) with family members immediately running to secure their pitch while another family goes and books in, or various tactical ploys are played out, people arguing over who claimed a pitch first... If anyone is reading this it's really quite sedate in my experience.
Yes what the OP describes does happen, I've seen it but so far it's still a fairly isolated occurrence. As micky says we are all there to enjoy ourselves.
Of course if it was whacky races and this is a club site there would certainly be a Mutley (he was my favourite btw), perhaps people have specially trained their dogs to run and secure certain pitches?.

But only on a 2m lead. 😃

Mrs SF can be a bit of a Rottweiler, corners and I’ve never been able to tame her let alone train her. She only exhibits such behaviour though when she feels an injustice has occurred or someone lacks respect and is selfish towards kith and kin. Some of us have worked in professions where it has been crucial, if not vital, to show fairness and no preference to others setting the very best example we can.
No, sites are not as some describe, they are not free for alls, they are sedate but that’s why when such isolated behaviours are witnessed they are so disappointing. Whether or not such behaviour is on the increase I’m not sure. Let’s hope not.0 -
Yes +1 to all of that.
Well -1 for the description of your good lady of course.

Not read all 12 pages, life's too short, but not seen any answer/suggestion re-- Arrival 1 books in, drives round site on a recce, decides the best pitch is the one he saw earlier, continues round the site only to find that Arrival 2 has just chosen that very pitch. By the way people are being bombed in Ukraine.

I agree with brue, the CCC have a much more relaxed approach to pitch selection.
I think a lot depends on the time of day you arrive and whether you are car and caravan or MH.
Many MH'ers like to go to the service point once they have checked in, so their OH goes and selects a pitch and waits for them. Yes technically not the way the rules state but they were made long ago with caravans in mind I would have thought.
When in our MH we tend to drive round and select the pitch and strangely we park on it and setup.🤫 Why us it we do that, because we dump and fill as we are leaving the previous site 😉 takes all the hassle out of arrival and pitch grabbing.
I know this is in the UK section, but it's quite common abroad to walk the site first then one of you stays on the pitch while the other one goes back for the unit. Maybe the folk doing this in the UK have learnt it from 😉
We rarely arrive on a CAMC site at 13.00 so haven't often come across this problem. Last year at the Wirral was one of the few times we had, however given how long it takes you to walk back to reception then wait 15-20 mins in the queue again I can understand why it happens.
To be fair the ones that really annoy me are the thoughtless ones that pitch up, have lunch, put the awning up and sometime around late afternoon go back to let the office know what pitch they are on.
Its supposed to be a relaxing hobby 🤣🤣🤣

We often park up after booking in and walk the site when we find a pitch we like the wife will stay there while I go back and fetch the unit, far better than driving round in circles, in my opinion once you've booked in any available pitch is yours to choose physically driving onto the pitch to claim it is nonsense and anyone trying it on with my wife stood there would certainly be made to look the fool they are.
2 -
Obviously you nip into the office and legitimise your wife's claim to the pitch when you collect your unit 👍🏻

The arrival time at this CCC site is strictly controlled , a chain is across the road at the entrance which is removed at just before 1300hrs we went out about 1230 and there was Queue , we had seen people wandering around the site as we left our pitch So they may have been seeing what pitches were vacant
