I've just booked a BF sailing for the 7th September directly with them and still had a choice of cabin.

Things on the continent seem to getting booked up as well. I'd looked at a couple of sites for 3rd week in June between Maastricht and Aachen in NL and was not going to book a pitch as I wanted some flexibility. One site advised booking on their website and the other said I did not have to but would advise a call before departure. I've checked availability of pitches on the later website and was shocked. Excellent planning with a site map and every pitch has a booking schedule. Out of 100 Comfort pitches, offering 10 amp, car on pitch allowed, free internet, terraced views, tap on pitch etc for the pricey ACSI rate of Euro 21 inc booking, only 6 were still available. Off these 4 are at busy points near toilets or playgrounds or near pinch points at road junctions. My plans to wing it on this one have been scuppered and I've booked.

Well things must be getting busy in Spain as friends of ours sailed back last Thursday evening Portsmouth/Caen and the sailing for Santander was be loaded at the same time some caravans but a huge amount of motorhomes so folks are on the move possibly without all the restrictions now.

I think everyone is trying to make bookings with Brittany Ferries. Our payment is due in a few days and our credit card has changed. The online portal for changing card details still isn't working and I last tried a month ago. After 50 minutes on hold I gave up and thought I would try another extension but now everything is engaged. An email requesting if there was anther number I could try will be answered in 10 days. looks like there could be a spare BF sailing when we fail to make the payment.

@SteveL If you go to their Twitter feed you can either post a plea for help to make the payment or, better still, send them a direct message. They are usually quite helpful. They seem to be overwhelmed with enquiries at the moment and there are quite a lot of unhappy customers judging by the comments. Hope you get sorted.

Thanks Geejay. Now sorted. I tried again about 5 pm and was just about to hang up after 30 minutes when it was answered. It took about a minute to sort out. I’m not surprised customers are unhappy, making it so difficult to perform such a simple task is totally unacceptable. I’m sure it can’t be that unusual, they really need to get the online portal sorted. It seems they are not much faster at that, than the club is sorting out CT.😂

Glad to hear it. They say on Twitter that after 5pm is a quieter time to phone. Maybe it’s true. wink

Perhaps these glitches are afflicting other operators too. I was trying to get some prices from the DFDS site yesterday and it throws a complete wobbly.

Steve if you haven't already sorted it a bit of info for you. Our final payment was due while we were in Lanzarote. It was due to come off our CC but something went wrong somewhere. BF sent us an email with a link to make the payment, it worked fine.

    Hope you get/got it sorted.

Trying to get through to them is a nightmare, previous to our final payment I had sent them 2 emails made a call, got cut off on calls trying to get through and finally managed to make contact via FB (which they now won't answer) I was told by a member of staff that my email had been sent onto customer services and I would get a reply within 28 days, that was on the 28th Feb still nothing from them.

If things don't improve with their service then this will be the last crossing with them for awhile until they start to do better. We will go by the tunnel at the end of the year as that was problem free when we did it last year.

Yes all sorted now, but a very poor state of affairs. I’ve still had no reply to my email, so either they checked and found I managed to pay or they have not bothered yet.
It’s a shame they don’t seem to have web chat. Our car insurance was due, I was happy with the fee and it was auto renew but the credit card had changed. Phone calls weren’t answered but the web chat was in a few minutes. They gave me a secure link to go to and kept the chat open until they could get confirmation. Only took about 10 minutes total. BF really need to get things sorted or they will be loosing customers.

There are other providers. As AD says online there isn’t really an issue. Last year I was able to cancel and rebook my flexible ticket in about 10 minutes. It’s just if things go wrong or if you can’t do it online. When you phone they do say they are in the process of recruiting more call centre staff, so hopefully things will improve.

One of the major problems BF have with bookings etc, is that they introduced a new system last September and out there are a lot of folk who still have flexi bookings that they still have not used, but if you made the booking before Sept 21 apparently you can only view your booking online and not amend it, well that it what customer service told me only last week when i tried to amend my booking, however, if you have joined their club you do get priority on the telephone once you have made connection.

I’m on version 9 of my ferry tickets having been changed and bumped forward due to Covid over the last 2 years. The BF system allowed me to amend the booking each time, but not pay the balance.

well it would only allow me to view mine, and was told as above, customer service did say they were trying to rectify the problem, maybe yours have been moved over to the new system, living only 30 mins from Portsmouth ferry port I have often changed my booking at very short notice, e.g. should have been in Spain now but weather was cr** in Spain but glorious here so delayed our take off, now booked for Thursday. BF flexi tickets are great for these sort of changes even if you have to pay more.

We have used just about all the crossings and ferry operators in past years. As I've mentioned before coming from Scotland to the South coast it's always a drag so we prefer the overnight crossings.

Last September though we used the tunnel for the first time, not only was it much cheaper than the ferries it was totally hassle free. Admittedly it wasn't busy. When we are just touring around and don't have a fixed destination in mind the tunnel will do us nicely. However if it's at the end or beginning of the year then that's a long drive to Spain. This is when the St Malo crossing is handy if you don't fancy the now longer Santander crossing. Horses for courses as they say. We will not however use the Harwich crossing, cheap it might be but just not worth the hassle of getting there, much easier to drive on down the M25 and do Dover/Folkstone.

With P&O now no longer an option it's either use the DFDS route from Newcastle or the long drive to the South coast.

Hi TG, Similarly we have used every crossing available fro Harwich round to Plymouth at some time or other.

Our options this year looked best via Harwich, with a price of £188, however, we discovered that our friends that we hope to visit in Holland on our way to Italy are away at that time.

In addition, due to the time we leave we would either have to stay overnight enroute or park up on the dock, as we have done before-doable but not great.

Add in that due to the crossing time we would be needing to stop overnight on arrival and we have decided to use BF outbound, which is an absolutely perfect time for us and means a meal on board at a reasonable time, and Stena inbound, to visit our friends who will then be at home.

This will be app £200 more but we are already looking forward to it, rather than dreading it, so worth the money, and we get a days start on the holiday.

Doesn’t bode well for the new season… thank goodness for western channel routes. If Taunton Deane Services southbound was anything to go by yesterday, the silly season is well underway.
