The P&O Ferry website shows sailings from Hull are currently cancelled, with no date of when they will re-start. However the CMC website is still showing bookings are possible from 22 March with no warning notices.
The CMC need to flag up this situation to members, as many will be with caravans or motorhomes with availability restrictions away from the Dover - Calais route.

Big business is run by bean counters. Government administration is run by jobsworth bureaucrats. What is right, sensible or fair rarely comes in to it.

Well, unless that celebration was to be on a ferry then you are OK as there is no connection between the two companies.
Mind you, the way ferry prices are going they will soon be at cruise pricing levels!

Carnival who own P&O Cruises have been at pains in recent days to point out that they are nothing to do with P&O Ferries. They are obviously aware of the possible stigma attached to the name. So you can enjoy your cruise without any guilt

Carnival has stigmas of its own. Have a look at the Wikipedia article which makes mention of how they employ and pay their on board staff on their cruise liners.

Perhaps P & O management looked at London Underground - 2 strikes this month and night tube strikes ongoing until at least June, looked at the RMT unions lack of any sort of “give” in negotiations and decided “sod it” let’s get this over with once and for all.
A shocking way to treat the workforce but I don’t see that the union can escape Scott free. They certainly haven’t worked to protect their members - only screened blue murder when things went against them.

A ships captain and crew have total responsibility and a duty of care for their passengers. If I was doing twelve hour shifts for two pound odd an hour, seven days a week, would I want to give the service that we're used to the same 100% that the last loyal staff gave? Mmmmmm let me think....
I've been on many Greek and Turkish ferries where you see staff with a not caring attitude and safety being way down the order.
I know where I won't be putting my money any time soon

I see that P&O have admitted breaking the law when called before the select committee today. Obviously they've taken their lead from the current government who have themselves stated in Parliament no less that they will break the law if necessary.
The Opposition led debate on "Hire and Fire" where they wanted the practice made illegal was defeated last week after HMG whipped their MPs in voting against it! Says it all really.
This may seem a political post but they are mere facts.

Perhaps a mega fine and jail time for the CEO might focus the minds of other top execs when making illegal decisions.

Seems to me the CEO was implementing a decision made and approved by the board of directors, and if he has the full support of them and his Chairman his position looks secure.

It’s text book - offer a relatively generous severance package valid for a very limited period. After that employees take their chances with the uncertain outcome of long, drawn out litigation. Any Government action will be slow and, should it happen at all, won’t be effective until after the ‘take it or leave it’ enhanced severance arrangements expire. P&O are gambling big-time that most folks will take the money and run and that they have configured the legal status of the business in such a way that their cheap labour plans are bomb proof. They’ll ride the storm, people will have short memories, like a bargain and it will be old news by this time next year. If it doesn’t go to plan, they’ll simply liquidate the company, blame the UK government and take anything that rises from the ashes overseas.

Breaking news on the BBC
A P&O Ferries ship has been detained in Northern Ireland over safety concerns.
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) said the European Causeway passenger boat had been held in Larne over multiple issues.
The MCA said there had been "failures on crew familiarisation, vessel documentation and crew training".0 -
Read just now on BBC news that MCA inspecting Pride of Kent are deciding if it’s fit to put to sea “without passengers or freight”.
Maybe there is a requirement for sea trials after the inspection alongside?0 -
You could try asking the club for money back.
I saw on the other club a member e- mailed the club on the morning after the sackings about cancelling booking Hull-Rotterdam in July. He got a phone call in the afternoon to say no problem and he would get a full refund, - worth a try.

Since 2/3 of the crew are the same one has to wonder when the MCA last carried out any full fleet inspections of any of the ferry companies? We’re they waiting for another TT disaster?
One thing is certain P & O will be the safest ferry company to cross the Channel with this summer!0
