ACSI App
Is anybody else having problems with the ACSI CC App? Usually problem free but running very slow for a few days now, sometimes unresponsive and downloads not working properly.

Not actually used it yet but the downloads updated OK.

Been doing a bit of research for upcoming overseas trip but still struggling with ACSI App. Very slow and unresponsive - not quite as bad as this forum, but not far behind. Anybody else experiencing the same problem? Problem persists whether off or online use and all downloads up-to-date.

Ours seems to work OK, using it on an iPad with iOS 15.3, certainly no speed issues. However, I have had some problem with down loading the data set, which in my case is just for the UK and France both ACSI sites and MH Aires. Initially it rook a couple of attempts as it kept showing as incomplete. Then the first time I updated the App it Deleted User them, although OK on the second update.

I’m running the same spec as you and experienced similar download issues. However, I’ve got the complete site & MH dataset never knowing where we might end up. My App should auto update but I think I’ll delete it and start again. Hopefully just a glitch my end as the App is usually very good.

Latest version is iOS15.4

Hopefully now sorted. For anybody else with this problem….
Deleted User App plus all data and reinstalled. I noticed 2 things: 1) when reinstalling my iPhone was installed twice as a device - old version Deleted User. 2) after country data is downloaded and apparently complete, some offline map data is still being downloaded in the background so you need to keep the App open long enough for the process to complete.

Following on from this….. now that the App is working I’ve been be able to do a bit of planning. What strikes me is the prices and just how expensive some places in the UK have become. Overseas ACSI price typically €20 to €22 for the type of places I’m attracted to. That’s about £16 to £18. In the current market I reckon that’s half the price of CMC on level comparison terms. I‘m planning a trip of about 70 days so probably saving over £1200 compared to same in UK. Ferry is about £400, so over £800 saved. I’m already at the stage where my default is the CCC adult concession rate. Yes, I know this topic has been done to death, but sometimes it’s only when you pause and do the sums you realise you’re being taken for a ride. I think this is probably my last year with CMC, it doesn’t make much sense anymore and they can stop sending me naughty boy emails.

I never bothered with the app because no more than half the sites we stayed at were in any sort of ACSI scheme. And I never kept detailed financial figures though we never spent a lot.
It’ 50 years this year since we first hit the roads across Europe - and increasingly in more recent years it was to get away from making bookings in advance, being tied down to arrival times and pegs, making decisions in advance about awning pitches and non awning pitches, sticking to members only conditions, and the sheer tiresome weight of rules and regulations here at home. I never was good at doing as I was told.
But old age and Infirmity have beaten one of us now and I’m not inclined to go without her ! So I’m wandering my own wild two acres now, and you may hear less from me.

I’ve long since given up on paper resources and I do like the App simply because much of the time we follow our nose when touring and just check what’s available locally using the ACSI offline map when we arrive somewhere. That said, I also use Searchforsites and Park4night - both excellent.

"There will always be folk (usually those who haven't taken their vans abroad) who defend any comparison, on price or otherwise, with club sites...often leaping in with 'but what about the ferry costs'...
yet, as your post shows (and anyone who's done a few weeks 'away' will support) the site difference is so marked that ferry costs soon get swallowed up."
At the weekend our Grandson brought a C&CC magazine he had picked up at the recent NEC Outdoor Expo.
Looking through it I was struck by a double page photo of the Loch Ness Shores site. Its a waterside site in whats considered a beautiful area.
We have recently been finalising our summer trip to Italy and I was struck by the photo as, apart from being waterside and in beautiful areas, there is no comparison, with the UK site having little in the way of site planting to break up the pitching areas whereas the Italian has so much planting you cant even see the pitches!
Now I fully appreciate that such a site, large and bustling, will not appeal to all however one of the advantages of the planting is that from your pitch it seems a small intimate site as you are not faced by row upon row of units.
We bought our first van in 1991 to holiday abroad, with use here an added bonus, so maybe we look at it slightly differently form those who start in the UK and, maybe, wonder whats so great about 'over there'.
One aspect is the prices, as mentioned. Our ferry costs this will be app £250 more than in 2019 however, a comparison with a site of a similar standard, and one that we have used many times, Polmanter, shows a saving of over £600 for the same dates so easily covering the ferry costs and some fuel.
However, its not a case of better but simply different and thats the appeal to us.
But this is only relevant as its what we want to do and we have friends who caravan way more than we do nd have never been abroad-they did think about it but Covid.
Now about to order the ACSI guide but research has shown that I can now book both our main stops and be guaranteed a pitch which makes Jean a lot happier, so it will be limited to app 7-10 nights use but still worth having and following on from the info wont bother with the app-unless its thrown in for the same price.

Hi David, If it wasnt for the sea in the background either could be the 'tiny rural site! Both look equally enticing!
The booking sites/pitches thing has reminded me never to assume, which I always tell others, when looking at ferries/sites etc. We are heading for Trasimeno and looking at the website saw a booking offer for €20/night that included what they call their 'Golden Pitches' which are larger and serviced, for the same price as a standard one, plus there is no booking fee.
Now its possible that using ACSI would get you the same pitch, but now its guaranteed.
We are also going to stay at Bella Italia and looking to see what prices are, as we want to be there after they stop taking ACSI-hence the photo earlier.
It was always the case that you couldn't book except in July/August but now you can so the only objection Jean has ever had, will we arrive anf there be no pitches-which in fairness has happened twice, but we got on later the same day or day after-has now gone and it will be less tense as we approach the gate!!
I think its possible that we may go to Croatia next year as both ourselves and our MH buddies quite fancy it and, as their usual trio of Spanish rallies is in its last year, then they will be looking for alternatives.

Also, like Spain, Croatia is still good value, your holiday fund will stretch further than the likes of France & Germany etc. Local cuisine & wine isn’t up to much tho’.

We’ll have to differ on that one. I’m no fan of germanic food, wine, beer or portion sizes - I’m more of a tomato & garlic man 😉

My family know that if eating out I will, if asked if I have any dietary requirements, reply “Yes-big portions please”
So can’t agree with Bill!
As for Germanic food, well 2 sea bass would be fine with me and I am a garlic & tomatoes fan as well so Italian food will be OK as well. Our usual routine is for us to cook one day, then our friends cook and we eat out on the third day but, as it’s just us this year, I think that either the BBQ or credit card will be getting a fair bit of extra use!
