    The easiest system, in my view, for both the Club and members is one that uses a smart card which can be common across the network. The only involvement of staff in operating the system would be in charging the card and there would be no need to pay anything on departure

    >Rolec< offer such a system.

    I wish I could find a past thread about the cost of installing meters. I think, but happy to be proved wrong, that a CL owner posted it would cost around £80 to install one meter, so with a (low) estimate of about 15,000 meters that is £1.2 million, like I said a low estimate and perhaps more with the infrastructure to read and charge people staying.

    Where will this money come from? Either from higher pitch fees in the short term or from reserves perhaps taking money away from other projects or refurbishments.

    We looked at a Club Site yesterday, for a midweek short break. Bear in mind it is still March, still lots of attractions, places to visit not yet fully open, and it’s cold up here in Yorkshire. Club want £28.50 per night. I have found a nice new small private site, with loos and showers for £19 per night. Guess where we are more likely to go? Serviced pitches as well🤷‍♀️

    I agree that if any system is brought in then such a system would be good, or even better having it linked to google pay on a phone would be even better.

    Any ideas of price?

     with the way energy prices are going up, £80 would soon be recovered .... and lets face it £1.2million is a drop in the ocean for the club

    I would consider putting smart bollards in as refurbishment though Corners.

    The Club spent a not inconsiderable amount on a childrens play area at Ferry Meadows a few years ago. It wasn’t available last week when we were there, as that side of the Site doesn’t open until April🤷‍♀️ Some of the Club’s decision making and expenditure doesn’t always seem to stack up to me at times. There were quite a few children with GP’s staying as well, so I think it would have been used. Mind, Ferry Meadows does have quite a range of child friendly activities not 200 metres from the Club Site, so the actual idea of spending all that money there as opposed to a Site with nothing nearby is another surprising decision🤷‍♀️

    From Google, Rolec smart meters are available at about £43 plus VAT No doubt for large quantities the price would come down.

    I really can't see how at all? From where?

    No matter how high prices go an owner can't charge more that that price to the end user. So  can charge an all inclusive fee pitch fee + EHU to cover the costs, or just pitch fee and the happy camper pays the electricity. There cannot be a profit for the owner to recover the outlay. For a CL it might be worth it for an easier life?

    Perhaps but better spent on something that brings in income in my view?

    😁 It’s one of our favourite Club Sites Corners, Bolton Abbey. But the small private Site is a new addition to one of our favourite CLs, so it’s nothing unknown to us, and this time, offers a better location for what we want to see and do. So, I think we will opt for the CL/private site this time. The serviced pitches are new to us, we last visited a couple of years ago.

    We will pay a bit more for a pitch exactly where we want to be, but £28 when we are out off site in day isn’t good value for us. We can’t leave the heating on for a start….🤣🤣

    Had we wanted to walk Bolton Abbey Estate, might have gone for Club Site😁

    Well that is £645,000 plus VAT plus all the labour charges.

    Yes there would be an instalation cost but not as complicated as you point out. There is certainly no need to lay cables of any descripiton. They say their meters can be retrofitted into most bollards. Other additional cost would be for the software and the cards. I would hope the software would be a one off cost for all meters installed on all sites. But as DD says its academic if the Club does not want it.

     Whatever the cost, they could be phased in over time, perhaps even a few on each site?

    Reading through the thread, it seems most people think it is all about energy usage rather than overall inflation.

    I wouldn't be surprised to see the highest % increases at the usual busiest periods, high summer, easter and xmas.

    Increased revenue when the sites are full rather than half empty.

    I haven't had an email and only found out about it by browsing the discussions. I'd like to know why there is a differential between sites?  No doubt the more expensive sites will get even more expensive with the smaller increase going to sites with less facilities or in more remote places.

    We're all going to have to tighten our belts but what is the Club doing about tightening theirs?  They expect us to pay more in pitch fees to cover the additional energy costs then give us tips on how to save it?  I'm afraid if I'm paying for it, I'm going to use it.

    been saying this for years BB, not sure how some site wardens cope, last Autumn stayed at York beeches for a few days, for 2 days only 2 wardens on site. Now this is quite a big site with very large, but modernised, facilities block, i think it would have taken me best part of the morning to clean the facilities block, and of course somebody has to be manning reception, and come P.M. they are out cutting grass etc, not easy for them, but both wardens kept a smile on their faces and just got on with it.#

    maybe somebody should now be looking at the business model, but i think we have been round this block before and ended up where we started undecided

    It’s about both, we can merrily go about our business until things start to get out of control. At that point you can choose to ignore reality, stick the price up and kick the can down the road for a while Or, you can take a more fundamental look at your energy consumption and the way you manage it. It maybe that other (green) investment strategies will give a better return than loads of meters? For those who can afford it, the former is more attractive because it matters little to them. As a massive energy consumer, probably something akin to a small town, I’ve seen little that suggests to me that CMC is purposely considering the latter.

    Why has the Club not invested in solar panels?  Toilet/wash blocks are the ideal place to put them.

    I can assure you there was no flippancy on my part, Rufs, but I seriously object to being told what I/we should do. Perhaps 'tongue in cheek' should have been replaced by a little thought.

    As for people considering their future budgets for holidaying, that applies to us all. We each have to cut our cloth accordingly but that does not mean sacrificing personal comfort and well being. I refuse to be guilt tripped over this as I pay my way and do not aim to take more than my entitlement but, equally, I will not contribute to a CAMC charity.

    I have often wondered about that as the Club is always going about sustainability. It could be that the companies they buy their energy from don't have buy back options which renders them not as economic as it would on say a private house and perhaps the pay back is too extended? Having said that every little helps.

    Personally I think most will go for an all inclusive pitch given the choice unless there was a really significant price difference?

    No vat registered company actually pays vat as they claim it back from HMRC. Thus, it will make no difference to CAMC.

    This cut will only benefit those who are not vat registered such as private individual house owners.

    re metering - playing Devil's Advocate - with an "all in one" tariff you know in advance what the cost will be. If the electricity is metered, you can only estimate until you get the final bill.

    I'm not bothered either way. There's too much else for me to worry about without thinking about a mere holiday.

    The trouble with that is it limits pitch usage to only those with off grid facilities. A metered pitch can be used by any outfit either for off grid use or use as much electricty as they care to pay for as long as it is within the capacity of the bollard.
