Internet orders? Credit card issues in Spain?

Have any long stayers in Spain encountered difficulty with BBVA merchant terminals when purchasing over the internet?
My first attempted purchase (for shoes) was turned down by the merchants BBVA terminal as my card was not issued in Spain.

My second attempt (to purchase an up to date map) was declined as I could not provide a Spanish tax office number!
is this just my bad luck or have others had similar problem?

On the plus side I was able to order 2 dozen bottles of wine from decantelo delivered. No problem and excellent service!!!

must stock up on the 14% proof Rioja and Ribera before the chancellor changes the tax rates!

Try a different credit card?  Visa or Mastercard? I can’t help with Spain but we always travelled with 4 or 5 differing cards between us. Sometimes one worked in faraway countries but another didn’t .

it was a Visa card - but it was the reasons for declining the transactions that surprised me!

It does not surprise me. If you were asking for goods to be delivered to an address the card was not registered at then the Credit Card company are showing due diligence.
