1st excursion across the channel
Hi everyone,
I am planning a trip with my wife in June to France and Switzerland as a birthday treat for her. We are new to motor homing so a little apprehensive and would appreciate if anyone can give me some advice.
I have booked a site in France (Le Chateau de l'Eperviere) for 4 nights and Jungfrau in Switzerland for 4 nights and wondered if anyone had any recommendations for a site on the return back to the Eurotunnel please again for 4 nights. As it is a big birthday trip, I was hoping to find something where she can be pampered such as a spa.
All advice and suggestions welcome thanks.

A couple of thoughts…
it’s 400 miles from the tunnel to your first site. Are you staying overnight inCalais to make an early start from there?
To break the journey on the way home one possibility would be a few days in Paris at Camping International at Maisons-Laffitte. There are spa facilities in the city although not at the campsite -plus of course high class shops and restaurants for your wife’s birthday.

The Municipal site near to Metz centre would be a convenient site for a stop over on the way down, it depends on what time you land in France, as ET says - 400 miles on day one doesn’t make for a relaxing start to your holiday. Camping Jungfrau is in a stunning location. You can walk to the local train station and get trails into the mountains, not cheap but nothing is in Switzerland. There will be no need to book sites in France in June, it’s a totally different experience motorhoming in Europe. Download the CamperContact app for stopovers and other sites. Enjoy.

The Metz municipal also has a motorhome aire adjacent if you are just overnighting.
PS. You can change your username to something more sensible than ScreenName82038BD359. It's a good idea to put your home county in as well so that any directional advice knows roughly where you are.

Hi, We are vanners so overnight stops are something we have to plan however or MH buddies will usually stop at aires when travelling to sites.
In June you could make use of ACSI but, if sites are already booked and you also use aires, probably not worth it.
You could take a look at Searchforsites, once you have a route in mind, and I use Google maps, Streetview and viaMichelin for planning.
As said Switzerland is stunning and depending on you van size/weight you may have options re a vignette for using their motorways.
As far as a spa and other birthday treats then you are spoiled for, what will be expensive, choice.
We stayed in Switzerland on my birthday, also in June, many years ago and my planned trip was replaced with one suggested by the campsite reception, to Mount Titlis, involving a trip on 3 cable cars to a glacier and a meal in the mountain top restaurant-I was heading for the cafe and my wife told me not to be so silly, so the restaurant it was.
It was a superb day and when we asked someone to take our picture it turned out they lived about 30 miles away from us and we had a mutual acquaintance!
Enjoy the trip and wish your wife a very happy birthday in June.
