French covid rules

Just read that the French government have issued new travel rules for entering the country.

As I understand it if your second jab was more than 270 days ago you will be treated as unvaccinated unless you have had a booster jab less than 14 days before you travel.

We was planning to go in September for a month but that now seem impossible as our 2 jabs plus booster will be more than 270 days, so would be treated as unvaccinated and have to isolate for 10 days so add this to the current ferry price’s it seems it is a no go.

Do you really think you know what the regulations will be seven months ahead?

Besides, assuming everything stays as it is, what would prevent you from having a second booster?

I don't think you can just turn up at your local vaccination centre and say "I'm going on holiday, I'd like a second booster please" can you?

We are due to go in May carried over from last year but I'm certainly not going to start panicking over what regulations may or may not be in place by then. I suspect/hope that, like the UK, all testing for "fully vaccinated" visitors may be dropped by then anyway.

unless you have had a booster jab less than 14 days before you travel.

Wouldn’t that be more than 14 days before you travel. If it was less it wouldn’t be fully effective, which does not make sense. Surely it’s just saying you need three jabs (a booster) if you are more than 270 days past your second. My travel pass shows all 3.

It would seem it’s very much as I put above. This from the telegraph online.

British holidaymakers who had their Covid vaccinations more than nine months ago and have not had their booster face being barred from France.

Under new rules introduced by France this week, vaccinated Britons will not be allowed to visit France if they received their second jab more than 270 days ago.

The only way they will be permitted entry is if they have had a booster jab at least 14 days before travelling.

Therefore it seems as long as you have had three jabs (unless the third was very recent) you should be OK.

Hi, As Steve has said I am pretty sure you will be OK but you could always go elsewhere.

We have had two jabs plus booster ,but we had our boosters in early Nov 21,we want to go to france in early Sept  22. So that is 10 months from booster jab so more than 270 days?.

But it has always been possible to get vaccinated to allow entry into those countries where vaccination is mandatory, such as against yellow fever, malaria, meningitis, etc. so why should it be any different for Covid vaccination?

But it’s not 270 days from your booster, it’s 270 days from your second jab. As long as you’ve had a booster everything is fine. However, who knows what the rules might be by September.

Are you sure about this, Bletchley? The only place I see 9 months/270 days mentioned is as follows which suggests to me that they’re looking for a gap of no more than 270 days between the second jab and the booster in order to achieve full immunity. I’m happy to be corrected though.

"Since January 30, 2022, in order to continue to be considered as fully vaccinated, persons aged eighteen and one month or over wishing to enter the national territory must have received a dose of complementary messenger RNA vaccine no later than 9 months following the injection of the last required dose."

Edit: Sorry, Steve, I missed your post above but we have arrived at the same conclusion.

Some (all?) of those you list are not free on the NHS and you have to pay for them.

It would appear that it is becoming generally accepted that after 270 the efficacy of two jabs has substantially reduced and the booster is needed.  14 days is accepted as the time it takes for the booster to become reasonably effective.  The EU has suggested a vaccine travel policy based around these figures and is trying to get its member states to implement it.  It's not known if or when the efficacy of the booster will reduce.

Rules changing frequently everywhere. We are off to Cape Verde (not with caravan!) in March. No proof of vaccine is required for entry at all - just a negative antigen test within 72 hours of departure - £35 pp at Gatwick walk through testing station with results in 40 minutes.

Yes. my reading of the new French rules is that if you are 'boosted' more than 14 days BEFORE travel you are ok. Lutz at the moment in UK you cannot buy a booster jab as you can a malaria etc jab - unless someone knows otherwise!  We are going through France in May and plan another trip in Sep, plenty of time for the rules to change in France and elsewhere!

As I read it, only if they extend the 270 days to the booster. Currently the 270 only applies  to the second jab. Unless there is another spike in infections or another variant of concern, I can’t see that happening. Plus I would think it would only make sense if 4th jabs become the International norm, which currently they are not.

DD.  My reading is that you (and us) will NOT need a second booster before our Sep trips.   This is what the UK Govt 'Travel to France'  - 'Proof of Vaccination Status'  page says.  However, a long time for things to change before then!

I tend not to trust anything current journalist write....opting for information from the relevant departments....... here is a link to the Ministere de L'Europe et Des Affaires Etrangeres which is updated on a regular basis and gives latest Covid travel advice...

We are also hoping to Travel to France in May through June (ferry carried over from 2020) and Spain later. As said in previous posts ...plenty of time for things to change.

GTP agree although I got my gen from the UK Govt web site.  Your link also includes the need for a Declaration of Honour (although I could not print the English translation one!).  The UK Govt link is much clearer than the French one.  Looks as though there is something of a migration of posters here to France in Maycool.

    We're already here!👍

all you can do is check and go along with the regs at the time...as ET says, they will change, for sure.

One difference for us now, from when we left a week ago is that we won't need to book a test for our return to the UK...at the moment💁

We are in the same situation, speaking to our GP surgery there is at the moment no mention of another booster and if there is to be one then it would almost certainly not happen until the round of Flu jabs starting Sept/Oct which would be to late for going overseas in September.
