When we had Rosa I normally wore a hiviz jacket, and it seemed motorists tended to "see" me ,more than when  not wearing itundecided

I disagree, I can’t see the Police arresting a horse rider for impersonating an officer who was minding their own business on a hack out. Standing in the middle of the road demanding ID yes I can see it being illegal. The Police would never get the  hacking horse rider past the CPS😂😂

PS-you can fool some of em mind

Of course it did, but did it say POLITE DOG HANDLING UNIT on the reverse?

Really, the Daily Mail DD🤣 It took you a while to grub up that article.
As I say, the “polite” vests are very marmite. But at least we are talking about the dangers, instead of ignoring them.

But the real very sad issue about this debate for me, is that one or two would prefer to focus on the ambiguity of a high vis vest, than the awful statistics surrounding deaths and serious injuries. I do hope that the vast majority reading about the HC changes recognise that whilst not perfect in many ways, it is an attempt to do something about those who are very vulnerable. Rather than try and make it a personal vendetta towards me, concentrate on the bigger picture?

I’m not sure it does say it all as it’s far from clear cut with use of words such as "could be", "run the risk of", "likely to be".

Surely, a healthy dose of common sense is needed as outlined by Rocky?

Summary offence, CPS have better things to do, straightforward fine under Police Act.

Any person who, not being a constable, wears any article of police uniform in circumstances where it gives him an appearance so nearly resembling that of a member of a police force as to be calculated to deceive shall be guilty of an offence and liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding level 3 on the standard scale.”

    Even possession is an offence.

    Happy to help 👍

Well the majority of horse riders I see aren't wearing "any article of police uniform" and come nowhere near "resembling ... a member of a police force ... calculated to deceive. .." so I guess they're pretty safe from arrest and prosecution.  smile

To be honest, I think we're getting into the realms of fantasy here and there are far, far more important things for the police to be investigating! wink

It’s a rather old article, dates from 2013 and typical of Daily Mail, sensationalised to have the Captain Mainwaring types spluttering over their corn flakes. The comments from readers are more interesting, some thinking it’s ok to mow down horse riders as they don’t pay road tax (wish I had a £1 for every time that abuse came my way😉) But, it’s all “could, should, might be, etc….”. The jackets are still very much around and being worn some nine years on, riders and horses still being killed, so I guess Police and other powers that be have decided that preventing deaths trumps a bit of hi viz wear. 🤷‍♀️

And that, I would say was deserved! But, really, is that on a par with the horse rider pottering along a country lane on horseback? Let's keep a sense of perspective here. undecided

This would be my vest of choice if I was horse riding nowadays. Coupled with front and rear cameras on my helmet……..

But are the cameras turned on, you ask…..

Just off out for a game of bowls, so plenty of time for someone to come up with an answer to this question - in all the years that these "polite" jackets have been worn is there a single example of anyone being prosecuted for wearing them, or has any police force expressed any concern about the possible "impersonation" of their officers? undecided

Evidence would be appreciated rather than just a "yes in 2013 PC Grouch in my village said they ought to be banged up and the key thrown away"!  laughing

That camera jacket would be ideal for on a bike thinking about it. That way, I wouldn’t be deceiving anyone with my stealth cameras front and rear.😁

That is of course one of the changes. Drivers must now stop if you are waiting to cross, not just if you are already crossing.

EDIT - nope even now its Should - not must! They must stop, only if the pedestrian is already crossing.

How many times is there a "polite notice" no parking?

hopefully I will see the horse and rider well before getting close enough to worry whether it says Polite or Police, I presume they have taken the idea from those "Polite Notice no parking"  signs.

What about the cars emblazened with "Polarice Patrol" that we used to see?
