    That’s true but it will only be a deterrent to those who can’t afford. The well off will be ok because they can afford it.Take it you want to keep the peasants at home

    It’s not a congestion charge at all. It’s a Clean Air Zone. I think you’re getting confused with London, DT.

    The charges at present will only apply to certain vehicles not registered in the GM area. 

    If we go into the area with our motorhome  we'll have to pay £10.

    In the SW if we go into Bath we'll have to pay £7.

    Different UK areas have different pollution levels to tackle and can adjust what they think will reduce the levels.

    Decide if it’s aimed at producing clean air or raising money. There is, though, no point in repeating yourself ad nauseam here. If you object to the scheme, make your views known where it counts. I posted the details yesterday. Good luck with your endeavour.

    I honestly don’t care about one scheme I object to them all. In my opinion if I am allowed one on here they are just a way of raising revenue under the disguise if clean air. I the councils or mayors really were that bothered the should make the charge that huge that hardly anyone can afford them not just the well off.

    As for making my views know I don’t think that the powers that be really care about peoples views.

    Don't understand your logic there. Surely the well off as you call them will have modern, non polluting vehicles,

    As for the peasants as you unpleasantly label them, their private cars are exempt as has been pointed out to you many times.

    I puzzle a bit over this "private car" bit. As motorhomes under 3500Kg are classed the same as a car - "Private Light Goods", is any targeting of motorhomes specifically discriminatory and how would it be monitored? ANPR would merely throw up a PLG classification.

    There is also financial support available to help those concerned. 

    I can see some individuals on here haven't read about the UK clean air zones and are just making fatuous comments. So rather than respond further I'd just refer interested individuals to the web sites concerned as there are more clean air zones being introduced and quite a few of us with motorhomes will be affected.

    Final words. smile I don't have a view of the scheme David, I've tried to keep my comments factual and note that those affected on here are motorhome owners with engines under Euro6 and this is the same in other places coming into the schemes throughout the Uk. These schemes are imposed by the government.

    I also note the facts about the CAMC making a representation on our behalf.

    You wouldn’t want to live around the Manchester conurbation Rocky, trust me. It has all the pollution issues that London does, but none of the squillions of pounds of investment in alternative transport that London has had thrown at it. 

    That’s the underlying issue here. There are certain areas of the country that have bad pollution from transport. However, the powers that be, of any political persuasion, are simply not  getting to grips with it, and ensuring the commitment to similar areas is a level playing field. So you get a piecemeal approach, different raison d’etres, and local communities pay the prices in unequal ways. The Manchester one is tough on local residents, but my advice to anyone else touring is to simply drive around. It’s a whole lot quicker anyway than queuing and shuffling along through the central area.

    It may well change some time in the future who knows. most things change and evolve, its called progress. However this is being brought in by the councils as one measure to protect their citizens. If the citizens dont like it the councillors will  be out of a job and things could change again.

    I recall them putting the charge to a vote of the citizens and guess what. The citizens voted against it. The council took note.

    The plans to charge high-emission vehicles to drive across Greater Manchester are to be referred back to the government to review according to Andy Burnham (GM Mayor)

    Motorhomes should be exempt from the charge. By comparison to commercial vans there are a miniscule amount on the roads within the huge boundary area of GM. I live in Saddleworth and my van, Adria Compact SL 2009, is stored 1 mile away. I will not be able to bring it home to clean and prepare for a trip the following day without paying £10 per day. I am all for clean air zones but there has to be some common sense. 

    Come on the club, help fight for a fair deal because there is no way I can afford a post 2016 van so I will leave the club.

    Sorry but the rule is you pay if you pollute. Why should MHs be exempt any more than food delivery vans, ice cream vans or essential service providers such as plumbers?

    I'm sure some will say that if someone can afford to buy, run and store a MH, then they can afford the CAZ charge.

    So basically you agree with clean air but you don’t want to pay☹️

    The idea of a clean air zone is not to raise revenue.  But to deter the most polluting vehicles.  Sounds like it is going to work.

    The problem for the people deciding what vehicle categories to include is how do they distinguish between motorhomes and the various other light goods vehicles on the road as they are essentially the same thing as far as the engines are concerned. I would be surprised that the number of non Euro 6 motorhomes covered by the Clean Air zone actually made a recordable contribution to the pollution levels in Great Manchester but the number of non motorhomes probably do? Euro 6 engines show a 67% reduction in emissions compare to Euro 5 so that is a significant difference.

    Save the planet-as long as it doesn’t 1) inconvenience folk

                                                               2) stop folk making money

                                                               3) cost anything to Joe Public🤷🏻‍♂️🙄

    The vast majority of us posting on here won’t need a good functioning planet but generations to come do need somewhere to live, somewhere safe from crazy weather as std for a start & being able to continue heavily polluting cities isn’t an option.

    It should be easy to do if they are correctly registered as "Motorhomes" They do it for vehicles registered to the disabled which are all free to enter any of the zones in the UK regardless of what engines they have. However, I am not agreeing that motorhomes should be allowed free in fact I think even registered disabled vehicles should eventually be charged after a period of say 3 to 5 years grace.

    If they charged £2 it would be a tax as it wouldn’t be enough to affect behaviour. Charge £10 then it begins to alter behaviour.
